Why is it called /fag/ when typing in the second slash gives a 404 error
I wanted to test something out.

Working on character design. Here’s a rough. How does this look so far?>>6559623This made me think of DBZ.>>6560134Hyenas are cool af.
do you think most people's fursonas turn into tulpas and that's why they're so hyper-specific and passionate about the character?
>>6560322>Who's your favorite?Cait Sith holds a special place in my heart after the valentine event, poor cat has negative fanart so I've made it my mission to change that.Seth was the other furbait that almost hit the spot but didn't get there, people seem to lust for him like there's no tomorrow so maybe I'm just picky
>>6560371Tulpas no, but there is something to be said about something close to a primitive egregoré. You draw something over and over again and kinda becomes this ritual, the ritual feed upon itself and you also gain some motivation to only draw said character and is rewarded by it.Before you realize is the only thing you want to draw and will do it subconsciously, them you realize, "damn, I draw this character a lot". Happened to me a few times and I see it happen with other people too. If you believe in this sort of thing I mean. You probably can find other more down to earth explanations, but they all come down also for pure speculation.
>>6560371just like actors who have favourite characters to play, artists have favourite characters to draw. i wouldn't call that a tulpa, the feeling is closer to being a fan of a character.
>>6560371No? Most just day dream about their character and place them in a world/setting/story and go from there. And with each attempt the character becomes easier to draw.
>>6560371My cat, The Cat Eloisa, was never a fursona. She began as a tulpa. She is, and always was, a tulpa. And so it's really the only character I draw. Though she has been dormant for months now. Aside from the occasional whisper, she's pretty much dead. I don't know what to do about it.
>>6560371They are meant to be representations of your identity/personality, and the furry community is hopelessly drowned in identity politics, so it stands to reason that they take their fursonas too seriously.>>6560743...This explains a lot.
>>6560371Fursonas are more of a self-identity thing. "This character is me but with [x]" as opposed to "This is my character." You could say fursonas allow people to be their "true selves" the same way we here on 4chan use the mask of anonymous to comfortably say things we wouldn't elsewhere. Why do people obsess over them? If you're life is mostly spent online in furry communities, wouldn't you be obsessed with how you represent yourself?>>6560743Do what I do with one of my characters and make them a self aware OC. Transfer their essence to the canvas so that any time you want to see them again, you just draw them.
>>6560770>Do what I do with one of my characters and make them a self aware OC. >>6558946It looks like you started moving away from that 90’s to 00’s photoshopy glow dodge and burn to a much flatter gradient. D&B is almost nostalgic looking back on it, but it really makes it feel dated, so I’d say that is an improvement. It also looks like you’ve cleaned up the character lines and have given it a bit of MLP/toon styling with the bold but clean lines. The real question you should ask is where are looking to go art style wise. Don’t chase appeal, chase your dreams.

>>6562595>How common is that?Ask me how I know you're probably too young to be posting on this website.A fascination with animals and anthropomorphization has existed for as long as humans have, across all cultures. Several of them based their entire culture off of it: see Egyptians. The confusion over Japan is especially weird though because they are REALLY fucking into furry shit. I didn't even think that was uncommon knowledge. Every anime these days has both furry waifus and husbands.

>>6554267just a humble question but why is there never money "fursona"? I almost never see it. most people like wolf cat or some other feline or dragons but why not monkey?I've never seen a fur identify as "monkey king" which makes me doubt the legitimacy of will.
>>6565186its not supposed to take that long to get decently good. you're definitely doing something wrong if you're stagnating that much.I'm going to guess you are stuck using reference for everything? i recommend drawing more from pure memory (no ref), personally. also try to avoid any unnecessary guidelines. >>6565232I've seen some pretty kino monkey OC's but even them is rare. Even other animals are somewhat rarer so is not something exclusive to monkey.I know a lot of shitty GTA youtubers use monkeys as profile pics because of one mask in the game, but that's as far as I know.
Sex bunny
>>6565395cute
>>6565232Probably because they are too human like and they are seen as disgusting or uncanny by many, though it's funny 'cause they'd probably be the easiest to cosplay
>>6565232>>6565615Which is weird to me, because when monkeys are done well, they're super attractive. When you think of all the things that make anthros attractive, people usually cite characteristics like tails, fangs, snouts, fur; all of which, in isolation, look super fucking weird on humans (just imagine a human with a tail but no fur). But monkeys basically ARE humans with all those traits. When they're drawn well, they're just better humans, and they can be really cool characters.Hell, look at Planet of the Apes. That shit still looks good today. Monkeys are super underrated.I have to draw a monkey again now.
>>6561196Hi, there!I am truly sorry that I did not see this post. Thank you for the kind words, where else did you see this posted?>Are you using a red ink to create the highlight on the mask and lips? The effect is great.Yes. Specifically, I am using a mahogany Prismacolor Marker, the best red that I thought would work at the time. I study a lot of screencaps from 80's & 90's anime, learning about their use of cel shading, colors & lighting. Old school anime is really good with the markers that I have invested a few hundred dollars, in, LOL. >Oh and those nips look delicious, nice stuff. Thanks, again. >>6565899Hola wey
>>6566327Get an action figure, posing figures helped me figure out balance a bit better, though digitigrade legs are hard to find. Only ones I know of are like $100, but they're also high quality overseas figures.
I'm part of a small team working on a VN. Picrel is one of our characters. We've been discussing which dress-color/skin-tone combination is best but I think we're too biased from being used to our old design.Constraints are that she has to mesh well with another character who is mostly pink/purple/dark.Any input would be appreciated.
>>6566508First of all the two bronze/dark skintones look weird. Secondly whats an even bigger problem is the harsh cutoff of her fur and the small area it actually covers. This is made worse by the bands she has at exactly the cutoff point, introducing confusion.I'd suggest playing with the saturation of the dark skintones, moving up the fur beyond the bangles and having it fade out from there. Also if you want her to mesh with another char you should have posted that char too.
>>6566318Bird!
I have a deep hatred of my art because it does not look like I want it to, how do I solve this problem
>>6566614By trying it over and over and over, becoming frustrated. Quit the night. Wake up, try it again only to succeed your first attempt. Seeing this progress, you create a new image soon after only to have that fail. Confused, wondering how you did it right the first time. 5 years later, you simply accept failure that you'll never draw what it looks like. Upon accepting that, suddenly you can draw perfectly from imagination and from there you're good to go.
>>6566614One thing that might help with that is studying the artists that most influence you. Try and do a couple of copies of their work for study purposes; check how they draw eyes, hands, hair etc. Keep up your fundies. I'm not talking about drawing boxes, or loomis heads either. (Although depending on your level, it might help with at the very least getting some mileage) I'm talking more about anatomy and perspective of how the viewer is seeing your characters. Just keep drawing. Keep drawing your characters over and over again. This will help cement a design for them, and also it will help you with getting used to drawing things that you (and other furry artists) normally would have trouble with; snouts, fur patters, hair, tails/tail placement, various other species etch. We won't know exactly where to help, or critique unless you post an example of your current skill level, so PYW.

>>6566738What you got there is not bad! Not bad at all. One thing I would say work on is your line work. These come off of as quick sketches, but building up your confidence in making a stable line can really heighten the quality of the drawing. Also, if you're going to use highlights on skin/fur, I would say avoid using white as a highlight color. It makes your figures seem plastic and unnatural. Using a really bright tone of whatever color you have for your skin/fur works better. Also, check your anatomy a bit more. Her breasts seem a bit wonky (but that could probably just be the crop). Same could be said for this piece >>6566742It's not a bad start, but just going in and polishing it a bit can really help. Take your time if you need. Take a little break from it, and come back to it with fresh eyes. One little trick I learned from looking at a few fur artists is, using the lasso tool for those super intense fur highlights give a bit more depth, instead of using a flat/round brush.Take what I said with a grain of salt. It all boils down to how you enjoy your process and if others like your art. I think your art is very charming, and you have potential to getting a strong following. Keep it up anon.

>>6566327I recommend you start with the hands and let them decide the flow of the form, you can create some really fun poses that way.
>>6567194I edited the colors just a tad, I wanted something more atmospheric. Kinda sad to obfuscate her muzzle so much, I want to denuncie better my characters are bunnies because a lot of her bunny characteristics can be occluded by the design I chosen, but composition wise and what I want to focus and the message I want to bring I think is necessary.
>>6564481We all deserve at least 1, right? :)
>>6567161What an interesting proposal, I think I'll try it out.I'm traditional medium sid ways pic anon, so expect another traditional sideways pic utilizing your suggestion.Normally, most people start with the head, right? I usually start with either the collar bones, or the hips/torso.
>>6567306Yeah, the head is normally how I start it out, but if I have some really dynamic pose in mind I often start with the extremists like the hands and feet because is easier to know where everything "begins and ends". I saw a picture showing this once but didn't save.
>>6567161Alrighty, here's Sut-El, a mage, began with hands (only line work, sorry, he'd be really dark color intensive, and my art supplies are very low, so I gotta ration my colors).I think that the combination of utilizing this particular character of mine (he's always hand-focused, seeing as that's how he does do most of his spells, and that was a design principle for the char), as well as my practice of visualizing the entire piece beforehand sort of made the prompt... Easier? I don't know how to describe it, really. Like, I guess, not trying to brag, but it wasn't particularly a challenge, more of a "draw Sut-El"? Maybe if I try again, but with a different char?
>>6567419Try putting the hands in different planes, really push what you can do and build it in other to create the dynamic gesture poses you want. The examples I have of my doing this are a bit old so they are not that good, but you get the idea I guess.

>>6568744y so many hyenas in this thread
>>6568826I wanted to draw this hyena. I have a hyena character I want to draw. Ergo, I wanted to draw a real hyena first before stylizing.
>>6558973>>6561201>>6567158Thank you so much all of you. I barely post my work on /ic/ because I tend to be a little insecure, but this was the nicest experience I've had here.
>>6569043Yeah why are the 'most degenerate' generals actually good n wholesome? I also back and fourth between the coomer toys general, and there's good vibes going there, too. We figured that it's cuz we all come in with a decent amount of humility, and therefore don't get judgemental and uppity like in other threads.Keep up the good work friend, and draw more to post more here, yeah?
Tried out the game and I ended up liking it. It's been a while since I've practiced. Gonna try doing the lamb next.
>>6568302Lovely again! I dig how you capture the feeling of fluffiness in the fur with your line work on the shoulders and stripes. Also your stylization of her in general, a sexy, mature Catra is great!
>>6569106>Yeah why are the 'most degenerate' generals actually good n wholesome? It's a weird phenomenon where the more ostracised, taboo and/or mature something is, the more reasonable and personable its practitioners and advocates often are. And the inverse of that is true for cute, "inclusive" and less degenerate things and the people those attract.Degenerates don't judge while prudes do.
>>6569672The furry fandom is a weird mix of both of those things at the same time. In fact, I've witnessed both groups pretty discretely within my own local community. One side was your typical "uwu glomps u i'm nb >w<" shit, and the other was, "Yeah, I'm furry, and I hate gays. What of it?" It was really weird.
>>6568707the cat is never the cat
I drew a kobold
Got a commission for a demon/rat hybrid. This is gonna be an interesting one!
>>6570176Looks cool. What brush are you using? I like the rough texture from that brush.
>>6570191Thanks anon. Using procreate’s default HB pencil brush.
>>6570201>procreateI should've known! I love that apps default brushes.
https://files.catbox.moe/kji90p.jpg it's nsfw and I finally finished that draft I posted the other day I think, did I do an ok job? I'm probably not going to get comments desu but I think I have a cute sona now ^^; mbyi wanna do some other actual nsfw art and things
>>6570372no im deleting that, lol, it still needs touching up
oh rip, i can't. kms
>>6570372>>6570481>>6570485Honey you have a vaporeon sona, of course he’s cute. Good work!Biggest advice off hand I’d say is look into doing some value studies, or just into some videos on the concepts of value. Your value range is really small. Convert it to grayscale and notice how everything looks to be the same color gray? If you push your values more it will help make things pop and feel more 3D.Also don’t worry about fixing this. You completed a full piece of art. Acknowledge it, be proud! And now go make your next one, even better than this one.
>>6570556This except not sounding like a supportive grandma
>>6569805teh new fags and teh old fags. surprised you haven't met any actual boomer furries that were active from the early 80s and 90s.
>>6554267Made a ref sheet of one of my characters
>>6570902with skill like this you are beyond this thread, why are you even coming here
any advice before I start trying to color this?the character is supposed to be a hrothgar machinist
>>6570176Update on this. Might do a new pose entirely. This one is too stiff.
>>6571369These are looking nice.
>>6564113>>6564156don't>>6564439she has four fingers now, it looks less weird but at the same time it makes her look more human so idk>>6565757I go by moka-pilled on socials
>>6571752any thoughts on this btw?I tried to make it look painterly and stuff
>>6571752she looks much skinnier in this picture for some reason
>>6571369I like this pose better. Its not dynamic, but it still works as an action pose, instead of just having the character standing around.
>>6571969Sword arm looks kind of awkward, like it's not stretched out like it should be if it was swinging a sword out.Remember squash and stretch really helps visualize action.
The full size is too beeg
>>6570902Do you plan on coloring that? Even if you do, you should look into line weight to help define your character with all of that line work everywhere. Something like outlining his arms while they are over his chest to clearly show where his arms begin and end. And then do similar, but not quite as thick, line work for clothes over the body, if you want to make that clearer and more distinct.
>>6571889She looks skinnier because she doesn’t have her fluffy tail visible>>6571752I think the four fingers are fine.
>>6571236why do retards say this
>>6572055Insecurity or some sort of compliment in the likes of “you are above everyone else here”
>>6572055why would good artists post here besides attention and flexing on shitters?
>>6572145To get critique from anonymous people online, the purpose of this board?
>>6572145they want a community just like every other lonly artist
Robocat for fun
>>6570902This is kino
Please rate/crit my artwork. Is there any way i could improve the head and paws? They're fucking pathetic compared to, well, the rest of the body. >>6566614Same. >>6568744Mogs me.
>>6572148This. You're never good enough to warrant not needing any critique or advice. Granted at certain skill levels it becomes harder for others to give advice because of the technical skill vastly outweighing theirs, but the point still stands that you're never not subject to critique.
>>6572145I don’t want to be associated with the art I post here. You could probably still find my accounts, but I think it’s a better alternative to making an alt on something like Twitter where I’d still be connected to the same phone number.
>>6571752>>6563989how do you render like this?
>>6572145Everyone here needs critique despite the level. You get very little from flexing here (if any type of reward at all). Stop being jealous and allow yourself to level up your art.
>>6572663>stop being jealousNever. Never ever.
>>6572680your jealousy is holding you back as an artist
>>6572713my jealousy makes me stronger, the hatred propels me to outdo my peers
>>6572718This is not an anime, hatred can easily overpower your good judgement and fuck up your goals
>>6572744>hatred overpowering my judgement and my goalsSounds based as fuck, is there any issue?
>>6572748>>6572718well there is truth to the anime. it causes you to damages your body and is unpleasant. You are not immortal, if you wear away at your body enough, it will become permanently worn out. Everyone has limits. learn to control your envy.
>>6572020>She looks skinnier because she doesn’t have her fluffy tail visibleThats part of it, but I dont think thats the only thing.
>>6570372>>6570481>>6570485>>6570570Maybe you should be secure enough to handle your own fuckin criticism before posting in a criticism board.Just some advice
>>6571236Apologies for the late reply and thank you anon. To be honest, it's just because these threads seems like the most appropriate places to post my anthro art aside from a few like the webcomic threads on /co/.>>6572000Actually yes and thank you for the advice. I probably should have varied the line weight while drawing this on paper too just to maintain that practice.>>6572298Thanks, anon. He has some good fights I have planned too.
Some stuff I did recently for a general on /trash/. Hopefully first one isn't too risque for janny
>>6573440you can upload the fullthing on another host and just post the link here if you want.
>>6573647What I posted is the full pic. I was just worried that dick root m8ght be too much
>>6573930>cropped version is the full piccoward
after 2-3 months of grinding figure drawing, gesture and master copies I can finally doodle some OC at work. (yes i know the perspective of the arm is especially fucked - its from imagination and im a /beg/)
>>6574139You did good on his left arm, so keep practicing, you'll get it right in no time.
>>6574201thank you for the kind words
>>6554267i just finished this but feel like something is missing and i don't know what to do with it
>>6574563shiiiiddd, i wanna draw her too, eventually
>>6574563Alright I'll give you an honest critiqueawesome work on the colors & shading, definetly looks like it was made by a pronow my main issue is the pose : personnally I can't tell on what or how she's standingi'm also guessing that the cartoony face is intentionnal, if not then maybe rework the eye & mouth proportionsgood job overall
>>6574768yeah i have trouble coming up with poses and keeping foreshortening consistent, do you have any tips or resources that could help me with that? i've done those horizon line box exercises multiple times but i still struggle with itand yeah the toony face is intentional i tend to go for a more 'toony styleone thing i also struggle with is backgrounds and environments
>>6572319finished it, i think i fucked up somewere lol
>>6574800>do you have any tips or resources that could help me with thatwell fuck i didn't expect thati'm not a pro by any means so take everything i say with a grain of saltusually, i like to exagerate things, so if you want to make your drawing "interesting" forget everything about proportions and perspective and go wildthink about movement, details and harmony, let me explain : living beeings like humans or animals are constantly moving (unless they are dead or if you'd like to suggest so) think about your drawing as a fragment of time, a snapshot if you want; details : a small fucking line can change the whole meaning of your drawing, so, for example if you lower the eyelids just by a tiny amount she looks like she just wants to be fucked so be carefull about it; finally, there's harmony : basically, try to apply the two previous things i pointed out without "incoherence" (ex: a character jumping in the air with static hair)>i've done those horizon line box exercises multiple times but i still struggle with iti seenot to brag or anything but, the thing is : i've played a lot with 3d software as a kid so drawing 3d boxes isn't much of a problem for memaybe if you do the same it'll help you understand perspective better>one thing i also struggle with is backgrounds and environmentslol me toodon't worry, your pic is focusing on the character so do something simple, like a colored circle in the backgroundas for pose refs i don't have any but i do like jojo poses
>>6575146yo didn't expect you to get back to me with a sketchyeah i should try experimenting more with lines of action, usually when i sketch or start drawing i get tunnel vision and start off just sketching a random part of the body as it comes into my head, but laying down the foundation is something i should do more often.i use blender and autoCAD a lot too but for some reason when drawing 3d objects i still manage to fuck it up
I swear to god I will kill myself, I can't take this crushing feeling of being shit anymore
>>6575186Get the rope already you retarded blogposter.
>>6575186Bro you can always get to the point of not being shit. Stop dwelling on it like a bitch and DRAW.
>>6575190I already did, it's time
>>6575146Oh nice. I like this gesture on the left.
>>6575186every minute you waste dwelling on "being shit" is a minute wasted not drawing
How do I make the torso twist more evident?
>>6575264im not good at explaining with words but i think like this
>>6575258I'm drawing multiple hours a day, I'm burned out
>>6575513Why are you shit if you're drawing multiple hours a day? This is not a 'gotcha'. If your study and practice techniques are not working for you, you need to figure out why, because you CAN do it, but you can also very easily get in your way.Take a break from drawing mindlessly, and perhaps figure out how to apply all the things you've learned to best support your learning style.
>>6575203Fukken vibri-ass lookin bnuuy
>>6575513try something different, go outside your comfort zone. my biggest period of improvement was when i started doing life studies and perspective exercises and experimented with different styles and mediums
This is a study of watercolor type rendering. What do you think?I never had a consistent style of rendering, so I'm testing out various styles, and I really like this one. However, this style of rendering only really works for bright scenes, typically those with white backgrounds. I don't recall ever seeing any artwork in this style of rendering in a dark scene. Most often in my fully-rendered works, I have dark backgrounds. If I were to render like this, then... how would that work? Does anyone have any good examples of this style of rendering used in artworks with dark backgrounds?
>>6575573Don't know much about watercolors, but with so little info it came out really well. I like it.
>>6575186You still mog me you retarded faggot. If you're not as bad as me, you don't have the rights to complain.
>>6575590How do you know what that guy's art looks like?
>>6575532You are right, i was going more for a art-deco jazz cover vibe to it but it's just vibri.
>>6575518>Why are you shit if you're drawing multiple hours a day?I probably do it wrong and I don't notice that because I have no idea what to look for
>>6575590How do you know I mog you if I didn't post anything
>>6575608It's the same dude
>>6575732and that would be?
