Low-int and I’ve hit a wall. What books will take me to the level of pic related? My list:>Scott Robertson’s How to Draw>Scott Robertson’s How to render>Richard Schmid’s Alla Prima>Stonehouse AnatomyWhat am I missing? What should I add to the list?
copy and grind, beyond the basics there is too much tacit knowledge you cannot get from books
>>7288774Low int? More like high beg at best. I did a red line of your drawing and yeah, no real surprise, you have a lot to learn. A LOT.First of all, the figure is completely nonsensical. I was being generous with that S-curve, too: this pose has basically no dynamics. Next, the values are COMPLETELY off. What color is her robe even supposed to be? How is she that well lit..... in the middle of DARK woods? Is this actually a studio or something? I'm guessing that's where your reference from (assuming you didn't use AI).She The folds of the robes make no sense. The wing on that bird in the foreground is two completely different values, which again makes NO SENSE.I'm sorry, but you might want to start with the fundamentals. Do boxes. Seriously. Just start with boxes. You have a really long way to go before you should even be thinking about "completing" drawings.
>>7288774Similar skill level and I've recently started a sketchbook on what I want to get better at - anatomy in this case - rather than following a book this is more exercise based like draw all the bones in various positions, then draw the bone connections, then do figure drawing and draw the bones on top. When I get to muscles I will do the same thing. At the same time I am still copying books in interested in but focusing on perfect accuracy in my copies. Every 2-4 weeks when I go and do a piece from imagination I seem noticeably better.
>>7288774pyw first
>>7289273Personally I think we've seen enough already
>>7289275But where's your work
Is this a troll tread or are people illiterate retards
>>7289285I think my analysis speaks for itself
>>7289348Post work
>>7289257god i wanna throatfuck you so bad.
>>7289364Very well, since you keep pestering me. This is what I'm working on as of late (yes, it's a work in progress, OBVIOUSLY).
>>7289396>wipno one can critique an unfinished piece - it's like sitting at a desk without legsnot only will critique outside of "how to finish" be difficult to give, but you can deflect any of it with "it's not done yet"i'm not really a pywfag, but this isn't a good representation of your skill. no one can give honest feedback on this, and you're begging to get flamed by bad actors.if you haven't finished something recently, do so
>>7289400I wasn't looking for critique. Let's just say... I do just fine, so to speak.I really only replied to show that yes, I do know what I'm talking about, and yes, OP needs to go back to the drawing board. Nothing in their drawing makes sense. They need to focus on fundies if they wanna make it out of beg status.
>>7289404with all due respect, you'd have to be bordering on delusional to think the work you posted is anywhere comparable to OP's image (if that's really his work)
>>7289415And why, pray tell, would that be?OP's work has literally nothing original going on it. It has a girl wearing robes... and some birds. The lighting is absurd. The pose is completely stiff. What is her back hand doing? The painting looks flat. Frankly I'm guessing it was traced from AI, because even though there's decent contrast, it's sloppy. Look at the bird's wing and tell me that makes sense.Meanwhile, in my work, you can see a highly dynamic pose conveying movement. The shapes are all well-defined, even though I haven't finished the rendering. Color theory has been applied. Lighting is well-considered. There is perspective in the composition, with many layers of things happening. Furthermore, the piece tells an interesting or unusual story. What is the story with OP's painting? Oh, a lady with birds. No, my friend, the only delusional person here is you.
>>7289418lmao
Man, starting to see why all you fucks are still begs.>>7288774Don't worry about collecting books, just draw and experiment. None of them are going to give you the secret sauce, you have to just figure out most of it on your own.
Is this a samefag or are people just jumping into this like braindead bonobos
>>7288774she plateaued pretty early in her career. guess working full time for marvel sucks the creative life out of you
>>7289446I wish Karla Ortiz would see my redline lmao
we should have an int improvement general. feel like theres a couple dozen of us that want more direction than beg is capable of.
>>7289449i fucking knew it, you baiting faggot lmao
>>7289451Why do you think the int general was merged with beg?
>>7289454lolOne of the funniest things about /ic/ is that people are actually this autistic, delusional, and retarded, so you can't really tell if someone is serious when they make posts like this, despite me thinking "surely this is obvious."
>>7289456poe's law + "ironic shitposting is still shitposting"i'm not condoning you despite my laffs
>>7289455>Why do you think the int general was merged with beg?its always been int & beg since ive been here
>>7289438Yes, quite simply
>>7288774any book that tells you to copy photosjust 900-pages of filled with those two words
>>7289400>>7289415He nicked the image from the discord thread, you mong.
>>7288774Bridge man
>>7289396is this the crazy new /ic/ meme now?
>>7291053Feel bad for that anon, he got vendetta fags now because some schizo on the discord thread
>>7289470Jesus, I can’t believe newfags like this are here now. I need to gtfo and make it before I’m terminally stuck here
>>7291073>I need to gtfo and make it You really do. Pay $5 to join your favorite, artist's discord community or someshit because this place ain't it. I only come here to see if fixing begs work will get me momentum to stop procrastinating. Also I cut all other social avenues off, discords are slower than here and I'm super lonely.
>>7289257Golden shitpost
>>7289257I hope you don't think this is funny. It's just cringe af.
>>7288774Books won't take you there, they'll just provide you with the fundamentals. You have to develop your own drawing process, copy other artists, draw everything you can from life and draw from imagination a lot.Anyway, to get good fundamentals from books I'd do the following:- Getting rid of Stonehouse Anatomy, because it sucks ass. - Getting rid of Alla Prima for now. You should not begin learning to paint with oils (or digital for that matter). Start with gouache. The most important painting skills you have to develop are volumes and shapes, and oil makes it difficult for a begginer to get good at that because you can blend to easily (this is not me saying btw, it's Craig Mullins - https://youtu.be/syVKP3r0D8I) I'd add the following books to the list:- Anything by bridgman, don't read a word just copy everything. - Sketching, the basics: Draftsmanship and construction, with a few tips on other things such as design and color. Great complement to Scott Robertson's books. - Gotfried Bammes anatomy books, for reference. Same as Bridgman, forget it even has word written on it. - Framed Perspective. Another great complement to Scott Robertson. Talks about everything How to Draw doesn't. Now, if you wanna paint like pic related, I think a great in between step would be to learn how to draw with charcoal. It's like painting lite. Teaches you a lot how to approach light and shadow. Best stuff about it, imo, is anything by Nathan Fowkes and the book "life drawing in charcoal", by Graves. Fowkes stuff on painting is also superb. He teaches a method that mixed watercolor and gouache and while watercolor sucks ass for begginer painters (stay clear of it), he uses it basically like gouache, so it's a good resource.
>>7295906Now take those books, courses etc and forget there are people online talking about art. Stop obsessing about the best books and resources, just study those you already know. Information takes time to settle in, so if your drawings suck, it's not because the books are bad, just keep practicing. Only reach people online for feedback, anything else is a waste of time. After you get really solid fundies, start copying your favorite artists. Copy A LOT. I mean multiple sketchbooks of copies. In parallel, practice drawing from imagination, specially things inspired by the copies you did. This will develop your visual library. Do the same thing for people and objects from life. Draw everything. This is 1000 times more important than books.
