No new story today, I erased my characters eye to draw it better and my paper kind of got ruined. I was trying head tilted down looking up perspective for the first time. I really like your rendering, the foliage and the sculpture looks great, but there are 2 things that bother me.
1 The windows and door frames at the top are mismatched towards the VP, one goes up and the other down.
2 scaling and spacing, the door is too wide, its an outside door so it should open inwards but theres not enough space to open without hitting the little wall where the sculpture is.

While I'm not denying the validity of your criticisms (I admit rendering is not my strongest skill), my intent was to replicate the effect of Chinese Buddhist scrolls (block-cut), similar to pic-related, or the well-known Diamond Sutra illustrations. So please understand the colors were muted purposefully.
>>
>>7364623
Nta, The colors are muted but you're lacking the visual noise and texture of the thing you're trying to emulate so it comes off as simple/amateur/unfinished. Look at how they use lines. The robes, the clouds. The areas that are empty are done so purposefully.
>>
>>7364624

I think you did a good job, at least that was my impression so
>>7364629
Really good!
>>
>>7364623
if that's what you're going for then I do have criticisms on your drawing: you're lacking the flowiness and level of detail of the original style: they create variation in value and contrast with very dense hatching/texture in some areas while leaving others sparse
the composition in your ref is also way better, with elements guiding the eye from one place of the picture to another, having areas of rest and others of high detail
don't be discouraged though, having a clear goal also gives you a clear way to fix things
>>
>>7364628
You can still add to your piece. It's very much an empty canvas by the standard of what you want to emulate. You have the focal point, now it's a matter of accessory and supplementary linework. I don't know how much research you've done into the character, but items associated with Avalokitesvara and compassion and Buddhism could go well as part of the scene. I'd very much try to add to the piece. All I see is a good start and lots of potential.
>>
>>7364632
>You can still add to your piece

I appreciate this, although the piece is finished for now, and I will be moving on to drawing some other thing. However, as I said previously, your advice is not lost, and I hope to put it into practice next time I draw something so that it's not so "empty".

is using pens a good way to improve drawing? i do (shitty) digital painting and want a break from a single piece taking hours and hours and i could also work on drawing more. seems like using pens is a good way to train that. the other issue is i dont really see myself doing anything properly creative, just studies and such. is this a good idea or am i retarded?

I DONT UNDERSTAND!

I time how long I draw every day and write it down. If I don’t draw at all I just write down 0. One 0 is painful enough, and more than one 0 in a row feels terrible, so it helps motivate me to draw for at least an hour every day.

Ah ok, makes sense. Even that sort of thing will be very hard to do in the beginning, almost as hard as pure imagination drawing. Don’t beat yourself up over it. Just try your best and then move on.

when should one consider getting a tablet for drawing? i don’t want to spend a lot of money while i’m still absolute shit, but on the other hand digitizing pencil drawings with gimp is a pain in the ass
Is it better to learn drawing with paints, or just get a tablet to have less mess? i’m working on a small visual novel so i’ll have to digitize stuff eventually, and while i love how pre digital stuff looks i’d probably just fuck it up and give up before making anything good

Alright, so I had a week off drawing due to messing my sleep pattern up, but I quickly got control of it and am drawing again...

I feel this looks worse than my last studies of her, I do like the top left one despite it looking not that great, the right one I don't like though, and the bottom left one her muzzle and eyes feel too small compared to the rest of her head.

Constructing her head feels like second nature to me, just the ears and eyes are where I am less confident on.

I'm gonna redo one or two of these tomorrow, if I sleep well, to see if my art quality improves or not, I am eager to do a full body study of her before the week is over before I draw a proper fresh picture with her that isn't a study.

This is pretty much all you need to know. If you want it bad enough, you'll lose track of time as you pursue it. Often times people asking about time are almost always asking because they're begs that see it as a chore and would rather waste time asking pointless questions vaguely related to art than actually doing it.

This is the exact audience influencers pander to, and if you ask me, it's in the best interests of influencers to keep their audience bad.

It's not a constant dopamine rush bud. It's more a meditative practice in delayed gratification with the satisfaction of executing a skill you're learning. It does become fun at a point where you can effortlessly create what you imagine and bring to life whatever you want. There are a lot of ways to learn how muscles are placed on a body. Simpler and easier to conceptualize ways to be quite frank. Just because this looks intimidating doesn't mean it's out of reach.

Bridgman assumes that you know how to do a lot of things, but I recommend before you start addressing anatomy you learn other things. AS per the sticky that nobody reads:

>Primary
Observation and Sight
Construction and Form
Perspective
Anatomy and Gesture
>Secondary
Values
Color
Design
Composition
Draftsmanship
>Tertiary
Narrative
Style

If you follow this order, it has a very natural progression that builds upon itself.
>>
>>7365218
If the bridgman drawings look to scary start with morpho simplified forms. And skip the heads.
>>
>>7365224
Google "primitive shape still life"
Start with grey ones, the idea is to paint something that's *only* lighting information so there's nothing else that can possibly throw you off.
>>
>>7365218
>>7365228
imo the most important thing to glean from bridgman is how he balances shapes and uses them for gesture. its nice to know all the muscles and tendons but its better to know his philosophy of how he assembles them to be appealing
