Very sad about life, used to be a composer but don't want to do that that anymore cause reasons. Wanted to make do on a promise to learn to draw years ago and figured with these circumstances its the perfect time. I started doing drawabox but it's kinda making me wanna be an hero and not want to practice. The thing is I got some other issues in my life too -- After a lot of fucked up shit happened I became a fat fuck. That's compounding all of this depression shit. I just realized that I need to do something creative to exist in this world become otherwise it's too damn hard. Sorry for yapping as the kids say but I just go no motivation for anything and I really hate drawabox. I could use any sort of advice or help to actually make me want to get off my ass and want to learn or really do anything. I guess maybe I want an actual community to kind of be my mental rock. I hope I can get some help here, I've been on this site for a long time but I've never made a post like this before. Thanks for reading
>>7783597just start going to life drawing sessions if that's available in your area. >get off my assgo do plein air, like go do a jog or hike somewhere and then draw whatever is around you wherever you end upmotivation is a meme tbqh all that matters is building good habits. drawing should become just another part of your daily routine that you dont even have to think about
>>7783597draw a box is garbage and often mocked here. on /ic/, your best bet is to just do drawing challenges like inktober, moai, animation, dtiys threads etc. post in the /beg/ threads. >>7783607this is excellent advice. Where are you drawing at the moment? got a sketchbook?
>>7783607Thanks for the advice bro. I'll do my best to keep the stuff you said in the back of my mind.>>7783618I got a sketchbook and a drawing tablet thing. It's pretty decent actually the tablet, it's got a nice monitor and shit. Got it a while back for stuff unrelated to drawing but I figured I may as well use it now. Do you think learning on one would give me bad habits or what have you?
>>7783618Also why is Drawabox bad?
>>7783621unless you use digital tools like liquify and lasso tool to move stuff around as a crutch there shouldnt be a difference in learningEveryone uses those at the end of the day to fix some mistakes towards the end of a drawing, but its better if you dont rely on it as much
>>7783622his teaching methods suck for beginners. too much focus on drawing in perspective, boring lessons etc. it's better to just draw stuff you like for a while, I didn't try to learn drawing accurate perspective until I was already good at copying my favorite cartoons.
>>7783627 Well not just that, Irshad is just a bad artist who who is essentially teaching a discounted copy of a discounted copy. He copied all of Peter Han's classes and books into his shitty course, and Peter Han himself admits he is teaching a slightly dumbed down version of Charles Hu's Class at Artcenter. Why learn from Drawabox when you can learn from Charles Hu or his most successful student, Han?
>>7783597kill yourself toby fox, never mind, you know what? Post your art.
>>7783597What do you want to draw friend? Learning the fundamentals of draftsmanship isn't as immediately rewarding as it is music. People tend to be more ready to be told how to sit at a piano than to hold a pencil properly for drawing. So I like to recommend just enjoying drawing whatever at whatever skill for a month without studying while digging up cool inspiration. That way you'll get an idea of what you want to do and what you need to learn to do it. If I was inspired by certain rock bands I might not need to know more than how to play power chords to play the music I want, you might not need to drag your ass through drawabox (dynamic sketching is better once you've got some mileage BTW) to draw the things you want
>>7783597draw what you want, realize its shit, draw using references to get close to what you want, realize its shit, draw using other peoples art as a reference and guide, realize its shit, and so on and so forth until you look down at the page and you are ok with what you drew.
>>7783723Thank you for your insights. I want to learn construction. I wanna be able to drop a cube and sculp that into a face like you see all the learned illustrators do. It's pretty tough but I think it would make my creative expression insane and help me expel alot of depression in my life
>>7783665>Peter Han himself admits he is teaching a slightly dumbed down version of Charles Hu's ClassWhen did he say this? Are you sure you're not getting confused with Norm Schureman who Peter Han took over from as a teacher after he died?
>>7783597Have you tried just drawing?Don't worry about drawabox bullshit or technical exercises or whatever, just pretend like you're a kid and just draw or scribble whatever and don't even worry about it.
>>7783597Why aren't you smoking a cigar, boss?
>>7783597You seem like a nice person. I wouldn't seek a community on 4chan. Find a local art club at your local comic book or game store. You'll have a better time. Go do figure drawing in person. No matter what level your art is, you'll get good practice and you'll hopefully get good pointers from irl ppl. Fuck drawbox. That shit is gay. Practice drawing what u want to draw. Don't give up if it's not to standard. Just enjoy and learn.
>>7785095>You seem like a nice person. I wouldn't seek a community on 4chan.>Find a local art club at your local comic book or game store. You'll have a better time. Was going to post this, OP you're much better off finding a group that won't step on your dick. My personal advice, use art as a form of therapy it helps put you in a state of mind flow where you forget about the world for a brief moment. I wish there was a group of friendly competitiveness but communities created from here always devolves into personal attacks and unnecessary drama.
>>7783597I started learning by reading "drawing on the right side of the brain", then doing most of the exercises and doing my own drawings in-between trying to apply what I just read about. I also tried draw a box and it didn't really help me all that much, I learned way more from "perspective made easy" and trying to recreate art that I liked. I think the key to drawing is drawing what you want to draw and using references to see what works in other art and reality
>>7785105My man. Low key exactly my same findings. I'm still personally working to get some friendly competition with other people working on their own shit. Just push each other forward. You actually seem likely a reasonable dude. I have half a mind to get your contact lol.
>>7785154pyw so i can trust you
>>7785184Thanks for the kind words man. I'm always to meet other creatives. I got a discord handle soravnya if you're still down. Your call. Reading this inspired me to draw right now so I'll do that. Much love
>>7785418*down
>>7785188here's what I'm working on at the moment and an older drawing. I'll also mention too that I used to play bass clarinet for several years, but stopped for my own reasons as well. I originally wanted to learn to draw to pick up a hobby that took less of my time than video games, a lot of my friends/family could draw for whatever reason (which I always admired about them), and I wanted to draw my own anime girls.Life hasn't really gone as planned for me too and now I'm clinically depressed with actual meds. It can be really hard to go on somedays. As for help, I find joy in drawing. It's about the only thing I feel strongly about these days. I feel a sense of peace and contentment when I'm in front of my drawing tablet with music playing. Art is just something I do for myself, that I enjoy, to pass the time with something to show for it at the end. It also helps that you can look back on old art and see progress, which is immensely motivating. You don't have to show anyone your art if you don't want to and it doesn't even have to be good. It's like that one Baki quote, "someone who works hard can never beat someone who enjoys himself."
>>7785418Bet. I just sent u a friend request. My username is rottings.....
