I want to learn construction
>NO you MUST be able to draw perfect shapes in 3d before even THINKING about construction
Ok I'll do drawabox
>NO drawabox does not teach you how to draw shapes it just has you do useless tasks without teaching anything
Ok I'll just copy boxes a lot
>NO that does NOT work you will learn NOTHING
What the fuck do I do???

What does this mean

Copy references
>>
>>7947932
What kind of references
>>
>>7947938
Whatever you want to draw
Doesn't matter how complex, just copy them. Repeat them until it looks okay. Then try to do it from memory. For the purposes of drawing alone you need nothing more than this.

Draw lots of shapes. Make sure you're doing continuous line drawing, avoid chickenscratch.

If you're going to draw boxes or other forms, draw them from still life. Cuboid and spherical objects from around your home, ranging from glassware to books to furniture or toys. Drawabox should only be done if you've been consistently drawing for a year or two.

Find "how to draw" tutorials of your favorite characters and follow the steps to get used to construction using shapes.

Find references and then break them down into shapes and forms. Then observe the references before hiding them and then draw them from memory. Then take out the reference and draw while intermittently looking at it.

Ignore all of these beg tier bozos and go straight to peter han. If you are poor then you don't even need to pay a single thing; you could just find a full playlist of peter han videos on youtube.

it doesn't matter what you do, just do something before you're here a decade later wondering why the fuck you didn't start sooner

As my goat vilppu once said. "There are no rules just tools" You don't have to technically follow all of those strict rules. In fact, just do those things then even though if you don't have the requirements. Everything will come in naturally with mileage and knowledge.
You don't need to do a lot of planning. You have to work hard as you can in order to get there.

I'm not a Howie. I'm new to drawing but I'm drawing what I want to. The problem is that I can't really draw anything beyond exact front views and side views of characters. I see and imagine so many cool dynamic poses I'd love to do and angles I'd love to try but just can't. Which is why I want to learn construction and shapes

I'll try some tutorials, thanks

Anything specifically? When I look up peter han shapes the most I get is a video about interlocking shapes, which isn't what I'm trying to learn right now

>You don't need to do a lot of planning.
That's an absolute lie that will get you spinning your wheels. Every drawing starts off with a plan(process) that you have to force yourself to follow or feel the agonizing pain of getting rid of hours of work because the foundation isn't sound... Though I guess with digital you don't really have to care that much because everything can be edited.
>You have to work hard as you can in order to get there.
The vague "Hardwork" means can mean a lot of different things to people. Saying you will have to do a lot of boring and tedious work to make sure your fundamentals are solid is more apt

I had the most improvement with my understanding of the human form when I did animations with my studies. Trying to do an animation turn around of a form quickly shows you if you understand it or not. Your inability to create what you see in your minds eye is just a matter of your skill/knowledge not being up to par yet. I specifically tell people to try to do animations of their studies because it forces you to use your spatial reasoning and logic in a way that just spamming boxes or copying things won't. In addition, it gives you direct feedback on how well you understand what you're studying. Once you've internalized some understanding of the human form, the dynamic poses will come much more naturally. There's a reason you see those drawings where people take one thing and draw rotate it from multiple angles, it directly exercises your spatial reasoning, which is what will help you understand how forms sit in space on a 2d plane.
