if anyone can identify this shrine I would appreciate it, I'd like to see if it or the vicinity are available to browse on streetview.
I forgot where I saved it from that would reveal its name or location, and twitter filenames cannot be 'backtraced' to the user who posted it.

Also, I thought about your question a bit more and I guess I have a hypothesis you can think about.

It could be that you mentally associate derelict buildings in your own country with poverty / crime / generally being dodgy as hell and unaesthetic.

While the Japanese buildings are - as the population shrinks and declines and whatever - a product of a bygone era and in most cases quite literally abandoned, and there is a(n admittedly romanticised) sense that we are seeing the process of things decaying with the passage of time, or something to that effect.

It is rather sad in its own way, and I have my own thoughts on that, but I'm not going to shit up this thread with those thoughts unless people care about them.

>>
>>19850288
If it's a large enough incident it won't matter much. All those towns hit by the 2011 tsunami had dykes and barriers along the coast, the wave just sweeped right over that shit. Plus there are other residual incidents that cause damage outside of the typhoon itself. KIXs biggest problem now is that the bridge has been taken out by a tanker ship crashing into it.

Not much of a photographer, but a quick one I snapped last spring.

It feels like that everywhere, but at least there's Melonbooks and cheap second-hand figures here.

>tfw exactly three weeks until my trip

These threads are the best thing ever

Nice, homie. I'm planning to take a 2-3 week trip in November. Where in the country are you going?
>>
>>19883980
Osaka/Kyoto/Nara - > Kinosaki-Onsen - > Seto Inland Sea - > Osaka - > Kanazawa/Shirakawago - > Tokyo

Trying to keep things relatively flexible, especially since I hear so much conflicting information on how much time to spend in Kyoto.

First trip? Prepare for withdrawal symptoms when you return

It's been about a decade worth of agonizing to get to the point where this trip has finally become viable, so I'm fully expecting the crash when I get back. I'm not going even sure how I'm going to bring back all the shit I'm inevitably going to buy.

Good news is that I have family that work for an airline and it's an increasingly open secret that they'll be introducing Asian flights in the spring so I'll be able to score sweet employee discount flights after this.

How do I move to rural Japan? I'm making this my life goal.

I'm also going to Japan (for C95) but I doubt I'll want to go back. It's not like I particularly like much about the country outside of otaku culture.
