Though, if you're lucky enough to find a living weapon, it'll pretty much be good to use no matter how long you play, I think since it'll keep getting better as long as you keep using it. Get a good material kit and upgrade it and it'll shit out damage like no one's business.

On my caster runs I like to stick a shield tonfa or sealed shield in there. You could also get something like a living weapon and fill it with resists.For ammo, you need to look at material intrinsics, I tend to go with dragonscale because most stat and skill bonuses simply get outscaled.
