Idk. I have trouble believing this, or maybe I'm not seeing the whole picture. Is short length nukige featuring female protagonist mahou shoujos getting raped seem like a reliable step or indicator of customer interest, demand towards anything greater? In my mind it does not seem like a valuable data point. Even for the chronological example, the two sets of games feature different gendered protagonists. And personally I don't bother will female protagonist eroge since they are either otome, or rapefests. I'm guessing 1,2,A the protagonist gets some action as a male and not only as a mahou shoujo. If these are a failure, are they going to be convinced that Amakano or Kohime will be one too? Is the opposite somehow true? What about all the many past titles you(assuming you aren't rping as Shiravune staff) worked with Nexton on? Glasses? Suzukuri Dungeon? Kuroinu? Amanatsu? Nurses? Do they need more stepping stones?

I guess good for the small audience that this appeals to since it probably would not get any attention otherwise, but it does seem puzzling. You put all these games together and I'm guessing that could add up to the level of effort and money a medium length title would cost that more people would actually want. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't have the data, but that's how it appears to me.

I can respond to this one.
While 'great eroge' with 'high production values' do sell rather well, in fact splendidly, this maintains only for short and (relatively) quick intervals, so much so that past a certain point sales will be inexistent.
In contrast, this almost never happens in the case of nukige. Something as trivial as a 'rapefest' game might not sell for much and the producers might themselves not be too invested in them, but they'll promise one thing and promise it well, however perplexing it may sound: stability. They will sell at their poorly fixed level for a very, very, very long time, never once dipping below, never once diminishing, and this we conjecture is actually proportionate to how 'degenerate' that specific eroge is.
A good example (for us) is Taimanin Yukikaze and Eden's Ritter, both doing much better than, say, Otome Domain and quite a few more. In fact, Nukitashi only recently outraced the Taimanin's, though this was only due to a combination of promotions and a few more extraneous factors in and out. Give it a few more months, a few years, and it will extinguish completely, something that can't and won't happen with nukige purely owing to its astonishing ability to successfully exploit the primeval self. Of course, that might temporarily change when/if Qruppo does something. Temporarily. Having an active producer with a strong reputation is a great boon, for each their title complements what came before and after.
Now then. If you've ever wondered why, when scrolling through the catalogues of major producers, "what's with this nukige?"---
If, for not a lot of effort, you can develop something that will generate sufficient interim, contingent and long lasting funds, there's no reason not to do it. High effort titles create the gravitas, low effort titles sustain it. Those in between are great too. The magic of CLOCKUP is quite appealing. I'm sure it's the same with JAST and NITRO+.
Having your the future of your company entirely dependent on incessant production is not at all great. Sometimes, you wanna do nothing or do little and still make money. Or you wanna shift responsibility and rake in all cash from an anchor contracted subordinate. It's what I do.
