Hey /k/,
You helped me identify a shell from a Vietnam era flare recently, was hoping you could shed some light on this, please.

I've got the model number etc as it's stamped on the side. I'm just wondering wtf the red cap thing is? It won't budge at all.
I had two other mortar tails of the same but both were shrapnel pieces.

Here's another shot.

Please don't tell me this is one of those threads where anon "dies".

It's a monthly occurrence now

Why would I die? It's literally my second time on here?

81mm mortar tail fin

Mortar tail. The red “cap” is just a spacer between the tail and where the body of it was.

Unless morter tails explode, i think he should be fine.

Just people copy-catting a guy who decided to test his gas mask by making a shitload of chlorine gas in his bathroom. Nigga didn't know it's just as bad on the skin.

No. Gas mask guy was blatantly fake and there's been a multitude before him.

You want us to identify the shell but you won't provide basic details like this.

You're retarded OP.

EODfag
Tailfin from an 81mm most likely the M374-series HE due to the tapered body and sttachment clips for the charge increment bags.
The 'model number' on a tail fin will be just for the component and its manufacture lot detail, not the overall item

The 'cup' is the base of the HE body.
Right side of picrelated

Mortar faggot here. EOD's right. It's old school. We use M800 these days. Looks like it either hasn't been fired or hasn't detonated or you'd be looking at half or a quarter of the fin remaining. Could have been attached to a dummy round for inert training or demonstration. Could have been taken off a dud round that spudded in and the HE was BIP'd.
