If we're talking about nontraditional trigger guards, the only "feature" I'd ever want is a double undercut. It actually helps my grip a lot to be able to get my support hand at just a little bit more of an aggressive angle. That said, I can absolutely live without it.

am I doing okay ? friends got me into IDPA so for a few months I've been shooting at large targets and I decided to take a step back.
48/50, 3m
also how is everyone doing today ?
>>
>>61311032
I went shooting on Easter and was finally able to try out the comp I picked up recently.

While recoil from 9mm isn't exactly "significant" (especially on a fullsize frame) it was fucking hilarious how little muzzle climb this thing had with it on. Getting back on target was quicker, so I was able to maintain accuracy while increasing my rate of fire (which was pretty fuckin' fun, not gonna lie). Next time I need to actually remember to bring a timer so I can get actual numbers instead of anecdotal feelings but I was quite pleased.

If there is one thing I think I need to improve upon its transitioning between DA/SA and the different trigger weights between the two though. At longer distances the DA shot always seems to be the one farthest from the center of my groups. I don't practice DA shots often enough I think.

Yes, which is what I want. Longer barrel as well. However, reduced concealed carry-ability due to size. Would like something in the middle. Unless - do you have the G20 and have no issues? or something similar size? I have an HK45 and it seems unwieldy for that.

cougars on average weight about 100lbs and typically want nothing to do with a full grown adult if they don’t infringe on their territory. I’d bet 9mm is still effective although hollow points are still preferred for obvious reasons

I don’t care if this is a mean it’s still unfathomably based. Also probably very few ways to fudge up an STG to the point where it’s unreliable. I might actually cop one depending on what calibers they have.

I can shoot around 15 rounds of 9mm as I shoot a .2 split. I could probably do similar with 10mm but the group is going to be much much worse if there even is a group or on paper at all

>but the group is going to be much much worse if there even is a group or on paper at all
This is what I was driving at. I'd rather have as many shots on target as possible if my choices are 9mm or 10mm, and 9mm recoil is much easier to manage. Most dgu's happen within a 3 second window which is why I chose that time limit.

>>

NTA but 10mm is more efficient with space/capacity than .45ACP and just as effective if not more.
It’s basically a practical and usable magnum round in a semi auto. Are you denying that there’s a legitimate use for that?
>>
If I plan on shooting only +p will that really wear out a .38 faster? Should I just get a .357?

Any tips for shortening optics screws if I don't own a dremel and don't want to spend a gorillion years hitting them with a rasp? I bought a 507K plate to mount my EPS on my VP9, knowing that the EPS's 1/4" screws are too long to fit it, but my local Ace Hardware doesn't have any 6-32 x 1/8" screws. Can Home Depot do anything for me, is there a secret screw guillotine they'll offer me the use of to reduce a 1/4" to a 1/6" inch, or is the answer "damn son time to buy a dremel"

If it’s only rated for .38spl, then it will wear faster. Assuming you’re talking a snubnose, just shoot .38spl and only use +p as your defense loads. You could get a .38spl +p revolver. .357 out of snubnose kind of a meme. The trade offs aren’t worth it imo.
>>
>>61313444
Yes. Practice the Bill drill, your shot placement might break down after 2 or 3 rounds. It's generally good to build mag dump skills without having to dump the entire mag. You should practice the entire mag every once in a while though.
>>
>>61312750
You have a full-size one for overt use (hiking, hunting..."duty use") and a compact one for concealment. An in-between size would be nice, but 10mm was never that popular and it's amazing that Glock bothered making a small one at all.

Does anyone have experience with the Mantis or other laser systems? Do they completely suck and are worthless, or is it a good way to get some time on target while being cheaper per shot than actually going to the range? (not that I'll stop going to the range, but ammo isn't cheap enough for me to shoot as much as I want)
>>
>>61314883
They're pretty cool, the AR variant is also really neat. You can always sell it if you don't like it but it's a useful way to have even more fun dryfiring at home.
>>

>>
>>61314883
They’re less effective than a red dot when training your trigger pull. In general, they’re okay at telling you when you’re doing something wrong, but not good at diagnosing what your actual issue is. Also, it’s sorta like Duolingo where you can do it all day and at the end you’re just good at Duolingo instead of Italian or whatever.
>>
>>61314865
hows the trigger blade on the CSX compared to one that you would find on a striker?

>>61314883
I have the laser academy, its pretty good and fun, but you still need to shoot. I noticed the recoil surprised me during my first range trip after trying the laser academy. The laser carts also helped me immensely when zeroing my sights. I didn't even know my iron sights were off.
>>
>>61314883
They're neat, but for handguns I've gotten enough value from just having a red dot showing me in real time how I was fucking up that I haven't seen any need. The AR version is probably worthwhile, since rifles are easier to keep "straight enough" and you're more likely to need more precise feedback.

Interesting. Why do you say that?
>>
>>61315924
NTA but the Glock 10mm has shitty Glock ergonomics. If you like those ergonomics it's fine but if you don't, whatever problems you normally have with Glocks will be amplified shooting 10mm. I've shot the S&W M&P 10mm and while it is fat so ideally you have medium-large to large hands, it's really nice.
I don't know about the other two. I don't trust FN at all.

This gun has exactly 1 flaw and it isn't even really a flaw. The tri-top cut slide doesn't partner well with the front serrations which lose a lot of their depth after like a centimeter, so if you like using your front serrations to press check like a tactitard, it's a little hard to get a grip on it.
If this doesn't matter then it's a flawless little gun.

Does anyone make a quality cantilever frame mounted optic mount for Berettas? Like something I can throw an rmr on?

Seems like a decent way to avoid fucking with the slide. I’ve heard that non reciprocating mounts help speed up follow up shots too.
>>
>>61319473
neat and lucky if you didnt pick that and got it by chance

i have been considering getting "4chan" or "1337" as a license plate for a long time
they are still both available and allowed as plates in my state since you can check on the DMV website

4chan being available stops me from getting the 1337 plate but im worried people wouldnt be happy if they saw a car with a 4chan license plate which stops me from getting that so i am in forever limbo unless i get a spare car i guess

I'm starting to think the whole "pointability" and "fitting your hand" thing people shill for handguns is complete bullshit.
I used to think glocks sucked at "pointing" but as soon as someone told me you aim with your thumbs it completely fixed that issue.
Same thing with grip, I don't think most people have special hands that will work substantially better with a 1911 or CZ or whatever than a glock.
This isn't me being a glock fanboy rather I think people who intend to train a bit should instead buy more based on reliability, ease of adding optics down the line, holster compatibility, and so on. I bought a USP as well as CZ before and never use them now.
You could argue these are important for people who will never train but I think they'd suck with any gun and even then most self defense shootings are within 3m so it probably doesn't matter as long as their pistol doesn't have a malfunction, they'll also probably buy a taurus g2c unless a gun autist gets to them first.

Anyone got a 509t? Heavily considering it instead of a RMR but the fact that it's built to be run on an adapter plate sketches me out. I've got a new gun coming in that has no backup irons so I'm considering enclosed emitters more than I might otherwise. I don't want to have an adapter plate, adapter plate, optic stack on a gun that already needs a plate to run an optic. Am I worried about nothing? By all accounts, the factory optic plate on the gun is such that it's extremely solid... to the point where only the manufacturer will change them out.
>>
>>61320376
I'm not familiar with the 509t but can't you just buy a plate that mounts directly to the gun aftermarket? That's how I mounted my acro p2 to my g19.5 MOS
>>
>>61317460
Just a strange metric people hyper focus on.
Personally I like the way heavy handguns feel in my hands plus it makes them way easier to shoot because of static friction
>>
>>61320479
No. It's a gucci 1911 with a factory optics cut that comes with a fitted adapter plate. It has to either go back to the manufacturer or it has to go with an adapter plate stack.

Not really, at least to me. I've pocket carried a stainless ppk/s, a couple of all-steel j-frames, and an airweight j-frame and after the first half hour I don't notice the difference in weight.

Doesn't exist. The only thing that matters is having enough penetration to score a direct hit on the CNS. Handgun cartridges just poke little holes in people. Rifle cartridges have different wounding patterns (for genuinely pretty poorly-understood reasons) but anything with around the energy of a pistol cartridge is just going to poke a hole. The only thing that matters is what that hole leads to, and for this reason, most people stay away from 10mm for self defense against humans. Popular cartridge for bear country, though!

Could you elaborate? I would think that it would be somewhat understood considering we know how different ammo behaves due to load, velocity, rotation, how it flowers when it impacts flesh, etc.

What I reference is the fact that despite some pretty focused research over the years I've never found a single, compelling, physical explanation for how larger rifle rounds behave the way they do. And yes, it has to do with "well, it's just more powerful!" but I've been looking for an answer a little more detailed than that. The best I've been able to come up with is an analogy which references how jumping into a pool of water from 5 feet is entirely different from jumping into one from 500 feet. My pet theory is that the incompressibility of water causes bullets moving with sufficient force to act like a unary "block" of water and tissue which absorb the force and overwhelm chemical bonds normally keeping flesh and organs connected, if that makes sense. My intuition is that the water in your body "parts" for a graceful dive with handguns, but is like a bellyflop from a bridge with rifle rounds.

I'm not explaining it well because it's more of an intuitive image I have in my mind than anything analytical. Either way, it's probably wrong... but fun to think about.
>>
>>61321565
>but is like a bellyflop from a bridge
It's like this: water is like concrete when you hit it hard enough because it's incompressible. When it's a human who falls hard into water, it's his body that gives because he's soft and his bones are weak. But a bullet, while it also may compress to a point, is less-so. Therefore, all that energy must go somewhere. The way I imagine it, it's like hitting the water and a "block" of water travels down into the sea. Obviously this wouldn't happen in the ocean, but it seems more plausible in the human body because the water in our bodies isn't free; it's held in our cells. Therefore, a certain volume of incompressible water may have sufficient energy that it moves through the body, breaking cell bonds and freeing water (kind of like a shaped change) as it continues dissipating energy.

>Therefore, a certain volume of incompressible water may have sufficient energy that it moves through the body, breaking cell bonds and freeing water (kind of like a shaped change) as it continues dissipating energy.
Which would tentatively explain how and why wounds from rifles tend to have much greater patterns of wounding than handguns, whose cartridges (again) just poke little holes along their direct path of travel.
