I will not. This is too niche of a category that was proven nonviable. I will instead post variants of NATO norm tanks. Here is the Abrams AGDS.

Can I ask why havent we seen much of this fucker in Ukraine? World in Conflict and Wargame teached me that this thing should be universally used IFV/SPAA, but I have seen only maybe one or two deployed. Same thing goes for tunguska, loved that one in BF2/3.
Is it because of paper thin armor, being tall and hot javelin magnet, lack of suitable targets or lack of maintenance?
>>
>>62594304
Probably not many of them left in working order/holding them back to protect things against smaller drones.

Guessing outside of the updated Ukrainian ones the Russian ones don't have working radar.
>>
>>
>>
>>62594304
I believe you have seen that on webm from the early state of war, right?
Where one mobnik was ranting about how their tunguskas were in inoperable state?
If that's the case i'd expect far worse for the state of shilkas.
(sadly i don't have that vid on hand)

Even when the Shilka was new its radar was incredibly primitive and limited for the time, and it got only one real upgrade pass and that was in 1977. As is, they're terribly obsolete. Ukraine designed a modernization kit for them but never applied it widely before the war (and presumably hasn't made it a priority since), while Russia also designed a post-Cold War upgrade kit but really only sold it as an export thing while mothballing their own systems in favor of Tunguskas.

Actually used a few times as a direct fire tank destroyer in the Iran-Iraq war. Damage assement is still ongoing at the Mars Rover hasn't found the T-72's turret yet.

These things still hold the longest range for self propelled guns, at 60km with rocket assisted munitions. So effective were they that Iraq even made their own copy, mounting a Soviet 180mm gun onto the hull of an East German BLG-60 bridge layer.

The concrete appliqué armor was not just a finnish thing. Many german crews did that, too.
According to some evaluations the krauts did the concrete did not provide any better protection. Crews swore by it though.

Okay I'll take these if only because someone went out of their way to try to make TDs out of Shermans and Pattons of all things. The Walker Bulldog just becomes an upgunned version of Kanonenjagdpanzer by contrast.
>>
>>62610436
>It had to provide some
well, a very small amount

>Question is if it was worth the weight.
germans straight up banned the use of concrete armor and welded track links for the use of armor
since the panzer IV was already struggling under its own weight and could not stand a heavy coating of concrete on top of that for only a few mm more of effective protection

not that it stopped a few stugs from looking like a bunker, anyways
>>
>>62594577
Exactly this. The Shilka is better off as a fire support vehicle, like the ZSU-23-4M2 Afghan.

Stick a mortar in it like the Israelis do and you have yourself basically the perfect all around modern armored vehicle for todays combat environment. Especially since the Bushmaster 35mm guns could be easily upgraded to 50mm.

Even airburst mortar is less effective than airburst 25 since you need to penetrate the roof or land directly in front of the port.
Plus mortar ammo being necessarily bigger than direct fire.
Non direct line of sight is nice though. An M1 chassis could conceivably carry both.

You could actually fit the pershing turret on the sherman. It was not done because FDR directed 90 mm guns to AA batallions.
>>
>>62619797
Well, german isn't attacking anymore
>>
>>62619816
>It was not done because FDR directed 90 mm guns to AA batallions.
AA battalions were being cut down at this point in the war because the luftwaffe had been neutralized as a fighting force

it was more due to the belief that a 90mm armed sherman would be obsolete before it ever hit the field since the 90mm armed M26 pershing was already nearing deployment itself
so it was seen as superfluous
>>
>>62620843
They did plenty of attacking all up until the very last months. Not at scale like early war of course but its interesting to see that both in Italy and western Europe the western Allies would've really had use of a Stug-like vehicle for all the urban and village fighting and German fortifications but what they ended up using was M-10 and M-18 Tank destroyers with their powerful guns but sorely lacking protection for urban fighting.
>>
>>62621262
>would've really had use of a Stug-like vehicle for all the urban and village fighting
generally, they just actually used tanks for that
seperate tank battalions filled the same role as the stug would have in the german army

the M10 and M18 were used as replacements for towed guns, since the US did not like towed AT guns very much, and would attach a TD platoon to infantry divisions to fill the same role organic 75mm guns did with the germans
they just ended up in the infantry support role just like tanks due to german armor being used up at the ardennes

but for general purpose anti-fort and anti-structure, they actually used the M4 105mm or plain old M4s

thats zimmerit paste, and thats not what concrete armor is referring to

germans, and finns apparently, would apply concrete on top of their armor in the hopes it would absorb an enemy hit
germans tested it and found that concrete had marginal protection at best from enemy rounds while also weighting a lot, so issued a memorandum telling soldiers not to add concrete or spare track links to their tanks
the issue is that the concrete armor isnt reinforced or under compression in any way, so when a shell hits it, only the front most surface actually resists the shell before the rest of the block shatters and provides no protection

The U.S. did also.

>>62626955
americans came to the same conclusion as the germans, that any armor that wasnt armor-steel was marginal at best
though while they officially looked down on the practice, they never outright banned it like the germans, since they thought the soldiers would have higher morale
