Why are the airborne forces part of the Army and not from the Air Force? It's like if the Marines were not part the Navy despite being on their ships.
>>
They were in the Army before the Air Force existed.
>>
Because the insertion method is via aircraft, but the actual soldier is not an airman. He is just a light infantry guy and him parachuting in or whatever is just how he got into the zone. Army and Air have an agreement (outside of very small areas) that the Air Force does fixed wing air domain stuff and the Army does ground land based stuff. The fact airborne forces uses aircraft to get into combat does not make then part of the air force, but part of the army that makes use of air assets.

Additionally the USAF was made a separate branch in 1947 so during WW2 you were all kinda the same.

The USAF is too snooty to have them. Heck, the A-10 was forced onto the USAF because they're not interested in ground pounding.>>62878777

If I was the president of the USA I would redesign the force to make more sense:

1. Air Force. All the planes go here together with all the paratrooper and air mobile units. The mission profile of this force is to fly somewhere and attack it from the sky. This includes airborn invasions.

2. The Navy. All the ships go here together with the marines. The mission profile is to swim somewhere and attack from the water, including amphibious invasions.

3. The Army. All the heavy vehicles go here. Tanks and IFVs filled with soldiers do combined missions, supported by heavy artillery and the like. The mission profile is to drive somewhere and attack over land.

There. I fixed Force Design 2030.

Some countries do/did this. These fallschirmjäger at Eben Emael are an interesting example: guy on left has the old Heer eagle while the guy in the center has the Luftwaffe eagle. German paratroopers started off in the army, then were moved to the air force (then back to the army during the Cold War).

>why are airborne forces
>posts pic of 101st (off jump status since 1974) soldier with no jump wings

The army and navy can have some helicopters to fly peoole and supplies around. But all air assault units go to the new Air Force. They fly in from the air and come down, so it's air force.

The way that the air forces around the world currently work is dumb. You don't need a seperate branch of the military just for seperate vehicles. I mean we don't split wheeled and tracked units in whole different branches. If the Air Force wants to be its own thing, then it needs to be expanded.

The new Army will just be for heavy stuff.

Air Force can't have any ground vehicles then.

I drive to work.
Does that make me a taxi driver?

>It's like if the Marines were not part the Navy
They aren't part of the Navy.
>>
>>62879326
>All the planes
why would the navy not be in charge of the equipment on they're own ships

Are you retarded? Sounds nothing like ChatGPT
>t. college lecturer. I always have to read shit my students made with ChatGPT and try to pass off as their own.
>>
>>62879326
And the planes operated from aircraft carriers, should be operated by the Air Force too.
>>
>>62878777
Didn't the Air Force break off from the army for that reason?
>>
>>62882057
No? They broke off to fly planes, not to parachute into battle.
>>
>101st has cooler badge than 82nd
>101st doesnt do jumps anymore
how am i supposed to choose a favorite under these conditions?
>>
>>62882422
It gets even worse when you realize the Army originally intended for them to continue as a combined airborne/air assault division (like 11th Airborne today, with 1st brigade air assault and 2nd brigade airborne) but 1970s budget cuts in the post-Vietnam era nuked that plan.
>>
>>62882422
just know that the 101st is better trained than the 82nd

>t. knower

Navy and Marines need to operate their own aviation because their aircraft have special requirements.
