How does one not notice that a military vessel is on autopilot? Don't military vessels have something that disengages the autopilot when a human takes the helm?
>Don't military vessels have something that disengages the autopilot when a human takes the helm?Do you think ships are Teslas?
>>62947056>How does one not notice that a military vessel is on autopilot?Women are not competent and should not be put in charge of any military unit, anywhere. But then again, we live in a clown world.
A lot of western militarys are in a bad state after the GWOT funding was cut and covid made experienced veterans leave and put zoomers off joining to replace them; but small militaries in particular like New Zealand are in a state of outright freefall; and this is just symptomatic of that.
>>62947056"one of only nine ships" is new Zealand navy really that small, wouldn't an island nation usually try to concentrate their military doctrine on sea warfare?
>>62947146They do. Its a poor country, they sold all their attack aircraft because keeping up up to date with new generations wasn't something they could afford. So all they're left with is their navy and a vestigial army with no armor heavier than a Stryker. New Zealand never really produced anything except meat, wool and lumber, and they're pushing hard to de-industrialize because carbon=bad so they're just going to get broker; so 9 ships is what they've got. Also their main strategic aggressor would never invade them when it could just buy their politicians, land and major industries; a la canada; so the military is kinda moot.
>>62947056Yeah it's called "the captain."
>>62947211Don't give me that shit. It's got vital stats comparable to Finland. They choose not to.
>>62947086Not OP, but, on aircraft if you apply enough stick pressure it overrides the autopilot. Why wouldn't it work the same way on ships?
>>62947056Complex systems will not survive the competency crisis.
>>62947673New Zealand can rely on daddy US, they would never let someone just take over part or all of NZ. Finland not so much, even if they are part of NATO now it would be an awkward question just how far the alliance would go to correct a relatively minor attack on them (for example a seizure of the Aland islands or some random northern bit of tundra) so they need to be capable of self-defence
>>62947794Actually that's becauyse Finalnd actually had to fight for its independence multiple times while NZ island macacos just squatted around throwing sticks at each other until whitey said they're a country and left them a bunch of gutless cucks to worship and feed them.
>>62947794This is really naive, imagine if every country did this. The US has commitments to defend all of NATO (Canada and Europe), Latin America (Rio Pact), Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand. As well as Taiwan (implicitly). There is a possibility it could get overwhelmed on many fronts, the world might need the ANZAC again.
>>62947211>so 9 ships is what they've got8*
>>62947732All this reminds of the scifi short story "Pump Six" by Paolo Bacigalupi.
can't fund a military and also support socialism for the "maori" who went from 1/10th the population to 1/4
>>62947056it does not surprise me at all, the only field that takes HMI design and human factors seriously is aviation
>>62947794>Oh they won't care about FinlandUS fights for its friends. Finland is a very good friend.
