What's it like to be infantry in 2025?
>>
is the ribbon on the private what they give you for being gay?
>>
This is hell.
Although it's always been like this in the infantry.
>>
>>64467307
It's the honorary cav scout ribbon
>>
>>64467261
What is this clown shit doing wearing an infantry cord?
Somebody please say sike.
>>
>>64467307
That's your "thanks for showing up" award.
>>
>>64467343
>honorary cav scout ribbon
what does "honorary" mean, in this context?

like an "honorary degree" and WTF would someone get an HCSR?

is that like when in the fog of war you fall in with another unit long enough to be made an honorary member?
>>
>>64467361
it's a trainee that just graduated infantry osut
>>
>>64467363
like if you wash out, but did your best, and passed a lot of it?
>>
>>64467261
Misery and hell, when you’re outside sleeping or pulling fireguard in the freezing cold that’s when the reality hits you that you should’ve picked a better MOS.
>>
>>64467307
Army Service Ribbon. You get one after basic and AIT. You get it for doing the bare minimum, nothing more.
>>
>>64467379
thats how its always been tho

Serious question: Does anyone know the US military constantly hands out participation awards a promotions at like 5 times the rates of Euro forces?
Things like good-cookies and automatic promotions don't even exist in most of Europe.
For example, some any given GWOT-era US infantryman with 12 years of service and 3 combat deployments will have like >20 different awards and be a staff sergeant.
Meanwhile his Euro counterpart with a near identical service record is liable to have 2 or 3 awards and be PFC or maybe a specialist.

*Does anyone know WHY the US military....
Fucked that one up, sorry.
>>

When I was in high school, everyone was telling me not to pick infantry and pick a better MOS. Even my recruiter said to pick something else. Graduates who went infantry called and told me that I’m going to fuck up if I shipped as an 11B. I wish I could go back in time and beat the shit out of my past self. Maybe I would’ve made it longer than a single contract.
>>
>>64467261
I wish people would think on it for a week before they get a shitty tattoo.
>>
>>64468277
Some units had cool COs that gave out Purple Hearts like candy, it sounds like you had a unit with a CO that expected you to be “best of the best” but treated you like promotion monkeys.
>>
>>64468269
I never understand these guys. Most people just see the uniform, they don't really give a shit about the insignias and tinware and ribbons. But like a small number of people really do, and they'll catch you every time.
If you just wore a basic bitch dress uniform with a single service medal, you'd get all of the attention and free shit and nobody would care. You don't even need to make up stories, just practise an unfocused stare and a muttered "Yeah... it was rough." if anyone asks you about anything. They'll fill in the blanks themselves.
>>
>>64468296
most 11bs and 03s only do a single contract. That has been the norm for decades
>>
>>64468269
The ones that get handed out like candy are also the ones that don't really matter, so it's not really a huge issue now is it?
>>
>>64468353
They wall want to be Billy Badass, the Navy SEAL spec-ops MACV-SOG Marine Raider green beret sniper with HALO wings.
To anyone who knows what they're looking at, it's blatantly obvious bullshit.

If they wore the most basic bitch uniform ever and their background story was that they were an admin clerk at Fort Polk for their entire career they'd be far more likely to get away with the lie. But that shit is boring and doesn't fit in with their delusions of being Billy Badass, the über-man with 14 deployments to buttfuckistan and >1,200 confirmed kills against interdimentional hyper terrorists.
>>
>>64468353
They don't want to be average. They want to be the best.
>>
>>64468302
my platoon sergeant didn’t like me.
>>
>>64468269
Euro countries don't really do much combat or even non-combat deployments, and those that did had limited footprints - for example any German that served in Afghanistan and is still in the Bundeswehr is either a a higher ranked officer or a senior NCO. Corporal Lars who shoots 3 times a year, has only done 2 weeks of continuous field time at most, and has never deployed or been anywhere near a combat zone deserves fuck and all
>>
>>64468483
France and the UK have had nearly nonstop combat deployments for the last 25 years
>>
>>64468488
cool story bro
>>
>>64468364
I’m just saying maybe I should’ve picked a better MOS
imo unless you have no other option as an MOS or you have 110% confidence that you’ll do at least 20, don’t do combat arms.
>>
>>64468606
yeah I agree. I wish I had done 15W
>>
>>64468295
That's an "my FPV drone just landed in the hatch of a T-72 and I can hear the cook-off from here" expression.
>>
>>64468615
I should have been a 68W

>Although it's always been like this in the infantry.
I'd say now is really fucking bad, due to all the accurately targeted big booms. Even if you don't die on the spot, you'll still lose limbs.
Only time it's been similarly bad was during the early gunpowder era, when you had no bayonet, and there were still lancers and demi-lancers roaming the battlefield. If your pikemen got mashed by arty or opposing arquebusiers, you'd be massacred by the enemy's heavy cavalry.
>>
>>64467373
It means Cav Scouts are fags lol
>>
>>64469217
most infantrymen from the year 0 until the year 1880 died from shitting themselves to death
and from 1880 until 1990 the average infantryman died from random explosions they had no way of protecting themselves from

the attrition rates for LSCO are lower than they have ever been

When I was leaving the infantry nearly 10 years ago the unit was getting sent new guys who could not even pass basic fitness standards and had an incredibly long way to go before they were at the standard expected once you'd been 6 months in battalion. If it was like that then I suppose it's only gotten worse by now seeing as the trends of enshitification and pussyfication have only gotten worse.

At the time there were stories circulating about plans to allow women to join and for a 'new set of fitness standards'.
>>
>>64469655
Did you get guys that were shooting marksman coming out of OSUT?

Lmao, ESL demoralization posts in an ESL demoralization thread

Imagine being anything other than a POG in the year of sweeping floors and painting rocks.
Reminder that even 88Ms had higher signing bonuses in the GWOT because of you're gonna die, you may as well die with 140k in your pocket.
42A is green welfare without the green.
