So in terms of night vision, how much should one be looking to spend on a rig to hold said night vision?
>>64490936>how much should one be looking to spend on a rig to hold said night vision?as little as you want
>if you only knew how bad these ENVGs really are
>>64490936US left about 30,000 pair of NODs in Afghanistan, Im sure you could buy some at a discount.
>>64491111checked go get gen5 full color quad nods from taliban for good price
>>64490957How much did you spend anon?
IR is better as you can use them during the day and they work great with zero light (no moon, low clouds, dark night).
>>64491126Five hours at the gas station workin' the holes. Knees weak like a moist lombard.
>>64491136So like 100 bucks?
>>64491134Yeah, but aren’t those like 5 grand?
>>64491149Not when you're light with a blade, theatrical, and fight for the other duke.
>>64491126excluding nods>helmet: ~$45>cover: ~$10>NVG mount assembly: ~$30>skull crusher strap: ~$10
>>64491152If he means thermals, no. The Oneleaf weapon sight is $1400 and gets you a 649x512 sensor, 60hz, built in LRF.
>>64491156 (me)I forgot the rhino mount and J-arm>rhino mount: free>J-arm: freethey fell off the back of a truck ;)
>>64491182What kind of helmet did you buy? Also, how heavy is the whole rig?
>>64491199>What kind of helmet did you buy?PASGT>Also, how heavy is the whole rig?about four pounds without nods, about five with them.
>>64491226>5lbsDoes it get too heavy after be too much after a while?
>>64490936You don't have to spend much.FMA team wendy exfil bump replica. Make sure it has the nice pads inside. Argus LWVMM, a norotos tatm, or a usgi dovetail in that order.ops core style counterweight from amazon. If you want more weight (and you might) then a generic counterweight pouch and use lead shot in a zip bag to your desired weight.
>>64492544I haven't noticed it, but I also haven't worn it for a whole night.
Not much unfortunately, this war in Ukraine will end and when it does the surplus market will boom. It will be difficult for solider to sell guns because it would be black market but since you can sell NVGs in Europe with no lisence it makes them far more abundant. Unless you're rich, and I mean wealthy. You need to put your money into something that will appreciate in value and NVGs won't do that this decade until after the war. That being said, put the monkey into stocks and wait to buy buy buy. Then you can get what you want and not feel bad about it becuase it's an investment. Just make sure you have a safe and a hidden one if possible.
>>64491152>Yeah, but aren’t those like 5 grand?pffff no, I only paid $4,999 for mine
>>64491172>Oneleaf weapon sightbro any info/opinion on the oneleaf pistol sight? Can it handle the recoil, should it be counted just over the slide so its stationary?
>>64497081First I've seen of this. This is... uh... perhaps the best shotgun or pistol thermal ever made with those specs. No idea on the recoil tolerance but nobody has complained about the big Oneleaf. Don't be a beta tester, wait for somebody else to try it first in case it needs a revision. $2k is steep but for a 640x512 core that's still solid.
>>64495187Ideally the war will end and surplus floods the market.I’m not sure that’s how it’ll work though. I’ve heard the military doesn’t immediately sell off stuff. Often times they throw it all into storage for years, decades even before selling it off.
>>64497107never watched this guys channel before, just searching, he tests the mini on a glock 20https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1aqWhPBigII dont see the value of a range finder for a pistol mounted version, I guess its just cheaper/easier to jusf mfg them all with the same
>>64490957This I just bought a surplus rhino mount and it works amazing it’s literally all you need.
>>64497121Definitely seems to be an all-in-one unit. Rangefinder could be useful if you're rolling this as an auxillary sight to an LPVO or MPVO.
>>64497107also, does the exhaust foul the lens/coating, is it easy to clean it off without fucking up the lense coating?
>>64490936I just found my 10 year old gen II monocular, think it's still worth it? It works but it's myopic even if it's clear.
>>64497140I haven't seen that reported with any pistol thermal, but honestly they haven't seen serious use (people tend to buy the infitac and stow it away forever once the consoomeritis wears off) as far as I can tell so jury is out. Compensators may cause problems. The Mars Mini does seem to use interchangeable lenses like its big brother, so worst case scenario you just keep a spare lens if you can't field-clean.
Are aviation grade /nvg/s simply standard ones but blem free? What makes them cost 1000 dollars more?
>>64497154>does seem to use interchangeable lenses like its big brotherexcellent point I did not recognize, maybe I will buy two 25 mm lenses. Doing more study but I am interested in this unit, just a little consumeritis before xmas
>>64497603Yeah I'm interested as well. Thanks for bringing it up. My consumeritis is already about armor this season, I'm between buying a pair of Hesco 4601s or going with heavier but much stronger Gilliam 8002s.We live in exciting but expensive times.
Why did you revive /nvg/ it's dead.
which housing for bino?BNVD, PVS-15, 31, katana, boson etcalso where are helmets 45 bucks because all I’m seeing is 600 bucks stuff>>64497291They miss some function, autogain or autogating IIRC
>>64497985>which housingEverything I'm reading says to go with an aftermarket housing if you can. Katana, etc. >45 bucksEbay or aliexpress. Clones of team wendy etc.
>>64497113>the militaryUkraine is the most corrupt country in Europe anon, trust me.
>>64498013based.Ukraine, sell me some nvg
Am I just a complete retard or does nobody sell pic related dovetail mount for the PVS14 so you can mount it on a KVC style bridge?
I currently own 3 DBAL A2 FP just sayinWhat are the best IR lasers in your opinion? For military use not civ available stuff etc
>>64498315What exactly are you looking for? TNVC lists the KVC obverse shoe set for $312, but they're out of stock.
>>64497965>Why did you revive /nvg/ it's dead.NVGGR is the best thread on k. Its the key equipment that will set apart victims and survirors and prices or coming down and new visitors need a place for good info.
>>64498370>What exactly are you looking for?Honestly, I'm not exactly sure. I thought about messing around with this clone bridge. Thermal on left eye, pvs 14 on right eye. I thought there would be a very simple mount that screws into the PVS14 and then attaches to the bridge - similar to the various QD dovetail mounts you can get for the RH25.
>>64498435Yeah, that's the KVC obverse shoe set for the PVS-14 and there's a different one for thermals with mini-dovetails like the FLIR Breach. If the bridge didn't include them then send it back and buy one that does. Mod Armory also makes PVS-14/FLIR Breach dovetail arms for their bridge that would probably work, but each one would cost more than your clone mount.
>>64498455>KVC obverse shoe setDoes the right eye PVS14 need to use that ring mount?
>>64497661>Yeah I'm interested as well.might be retarded, but.....can I buy two and mount them to a helmet for dual IR with extended/additional batter for extra life? Not familiar with all the different models and connectors/connections. The reason is if I buy two I could have one for two guns, or put them bother for dual vision.
>>64499437>can I buy two and mount them to a helmet for dual IR with extended/additional batter for extra life?Yes, technically. Picatinny adapter a dual bridge and then run USB-C to a large battery back on the rear of the helmet. This is ghetto though - keep in mind with helmet thermals you cannot use your laser, sights, positively ID people at range, see through glass, etc.
>>64499492>see through glassI'll just shoot out the glass so I can see through it.>you cannot use muh laserI don't have a laser>sightsIf I hold my glonk up in front of my dual mounted IRs I can't see/use the "Iron" sights? If I have a green dot on muh glonk, since it has glass, I am guessing it will appear black to the IRs? Hmmmmmm. I can have one IR on my helmet (left side) and use my right eye to use the second IR mounted on my glock. ????I'm really only interested in the mini version, and really only interested in fairly close ranges, like 0 to 20 yards for shooting, a few hundred yards for detection
>>64499602>If I hold my glonk up in front of my dual mounted IRs I can't see/use the "Iron" sights? No, because this is thermal and1. The back of your gun is not going to be distinct from the ambient temperature2. Thermal sensors aren't precise enough yet to accurately represent the exact edges of iron sights.>If I have a green dot on muh glonk, since it has glass, I am guessing it will appear black to the IRs?Yes.What people often do is they run a bridge, thermal on their non-dominant eye and night vision on their dominant. If you can't swing analog NV money the $350 Goyojo GNG2K is passable, but still digital.
>>64499614>If you can't swing analog NV moneyI can, just know nothing about which NV to get, green, white, which gen, make, model.....etc. Please make a recommendation - say $6k or less? Is that enough?
>>64498969No idea, I don't have one. I do have the integrated components/mod armory bridge and I wish it had the ring mounts. The screws on the drop arms like to loosen up just enough for the PVS-14 to tilt a little bit so I'm always fucking with it to keep them aligned.>>64499602Keep in mind thermals only see temperature differences. There are no shadows or textures to help you see shapes. If you're inside a building on a cloudy 70-ish degree day and everything is about the same temperature, be ready to bounce your face off a lot of stuff. And not only can you not see through glass, sometimes you can't even tell it's there. Glass acts like a thermal mirror, so depending on the angle a glass door can look like an open door into another room, or you can see a reflection of yourself that you might think is another person if you didn't know there was a window there. Our brains are not wired to see in heat, so I would not want to run dual thermals.
>>64499659Gen 3. White is nice, but green is fine. PVS-14 if you want a monocular. I'm sure someone else will chime in with the current list of reputable brands.
>>64490936Does anyone have any cheap thermal or NV recommendations. Not for a SHTF scenario, but just to see what cool critters are lurking in the woods near my house as I always hear em walking by.
>>64499777If that's all you want to do, get a game camera. Much cheaper than even the cheapest thermal or NV and they don't scare off the animals like a gawking person would.
>>64498969>Does the right eye PVS14 need to use that ring mount?Yes
>>64503194Thanks. I spent a little more time staring at the image and understand why now. It's so that the battery compartment faces the other way and gives you as much room as possible.
How many decades left until electronics are as good as tubes?
>>64505056two more weeks
>>64505056I don't think ever. Digital night vision uses a sensor that can absorb as much light as is possibly in the environment to allow you to see. What manufacturers and designers have been doing is making that sensor smaller and more efficient at seeing said light. Analog tubes take existing light in the environment, pass them through microscopically thin layers that then through black magic double those light atoms to try to help you see. Fundamentally, digital should never be able to catch up to analog as analog is essentially creating additional light.
>>64505113But digital can do things like take the other spectrums of light, run them through an algorithm for adjustment and combining, and present it to the user in the visible spectrum. Which means seeing in total darkness. Analog will never be able to do that.
>>64505170Digital can also see into SWIR by default and in theory can use 1100nm illuminators that tubes would need an expensive ECOSI to see.
>>64505170>>64505178>just light yourself up like a beacon because analog can't see it (probably, they definitely don't have other things that can see me)Guys, you really need to see the whole picture.
>>64505185Analogs can't see it. That's the whole picture
>>64505170If you're going to widen the definition of digital NV to any form of digitally-processed multispectral sensor, then why not use analog tubes as inputs to a digital sensor? If you spend enough money I'm sure you can make a very fancy thing. But the only reason anyone cares about digital NV is because of the cost. So most likely the question should be interpreted as "guys when will I be able to buy third-gen equivalent digital NVGs on aliexpress for $29.95?" And the answer is probably not very soon.
>>64505269They're currently a grand if the NVG-90 performs as advertised.
>>64505215That's the same mindset that the US had of>The enemy doesn't have night vision, everyone use laser pointersGetting tired of the same old bullshit excuses being brought up every time.
>>64505313So are you insisting we all need to be using digital NV?
>>64505319No retard, there's a reason why only chang uses digital night vision and everyone else uses analog.
>>64505320Only China can see swir it is the futur
>>64505327Anything that requires active illumination is the past.
>>64505284>if [random chinesium crap] performs as advertisedIf indeed
