Odds are the pilot would be captured, sure, but they aren't always in the mood to take prisoners after being bombed relentlessly. A lone pilot with an M4 or AKS-74U isn't going to take on an army by themselves, but it could be just enough to get out of a tight spot or hold them back long enough to be extracted.
