You do want to be careful to make sure you're hitting your target, but the correct verb for this is "pointing", not "aiming". The only shotguns you aim are those that pretend to be rifles, like turkey hunting, or with a rifled slug barrel. For normal shotgun shooting you point the gun rather than aiming it, because you don't have the time to carefully align sights.
