I'm planning on getting a 20 inch AR pretty soon and am looking for good handguard options. Are there any mlok handguards that only go up to the front sight post for the 20"? The ones that stretch out past it look stupid to me. It should be like with the quad rail in the pic but like I said mlok.
I can't answer your question but all I can say is that you had better be using a 1:14 or 1:12 twist barrel to exclusively fire flat base ~45 grain bullets.
>>64562926Brother, I wish. I found myself having to accept 1 of 2 options:>magpul moe handguard or>just get A1 or A2 handguards but accept the drawbacks of attaching nothing to itI ended up going Magpul, and I've been really happy with how solid they are and handle heat well.
>>64563016this. Faggots pushing 20 inch barrels saying "hurr this is what the 5.56 was made for!" while forgetting thats only for a specific round
>>64563016>45 grain bullets.A coyote/varmint load? If anon doesn't plan on running 91 octane, m193 clone ammo is perfect
>>64563244idk why magpul handguards fell out of favor. They're honestly pretty well made and ergonomic, even though they're cheap. Like most things magpul makes, I suppose
>>64563244I like magpul handguards too, they are comfy and I can put a light and a hand stop/ grip on my gun, which is all I want.
>>64562926Larue makes a 12" mlok and it's just about the best one out there. It's going to fucking cost you, however. Primary arms has them. Not drop in though, you're going to need to pull the barrel and fsb for installation.Midwest industries makes drop ins too. I'm seriously considering those for a Colt M16A2 upper I've got and want to build into a modern retro upper.
>>64562926I may be alone in this but I've been perfectly happy with regular ass a2 handguards. All you need is the flat top on the receiver for an optic and buis. If you have to have a light there's ways to do it with the front sight or just tape the fucker onto the handguard.
>>64562926Just remember that 20" ARs lose all their aura when you ditch the fixed stock and fsb.
>>64563605Wrong.
>>64563369 Yeah I tend to agree. Still a part of me feels I should be practical and get some ergonomic stuff. Have two now with the classic a2 style guards.
>>64563738Not him but the M4 stock makes every AR ugly by default.>>64563257I think they fell out of favor when racing guns became more popular along with more and more civilian mimicry of military gear. Now if it's not an aluminum free float, it's old hat>>64563264Yeah, I still really like everything I've bought from them. I wish they did the slim handguard in rifle length; saw one online, but it was an autist from Reddit who trimmed them fused two sets together, looked awesome
>>64563857I love the look of that stock but I could never get comfortable with the angle/pitch of the butt plate
>>64563016>>64563247fuck you both I'll shoot 55gr out of a 1:8 and you'll like it
Just dropping in this thread for friendly noob advice. If you don't already know, there's a fairly high chance you'll need an armorer tool to adjust the barrel nut or a handguard replacement's rail won't line up flush with the upper. It's not a huuuuggge deal to be like 0.5-1mm off, but you'd rather not be 1mm off if it can be helped. So grab a barrel nut tool just in case. You don't strictly need a vise for something as simple as a minor nut adjustment but it wouldn't hurt to be prepared. Wear gloves.
>>64564020The barrel will like it too. There's a reason they're all 1:8 these days. 1:9 was good though as well
>>64563857magpul carbine length looks like dogshit but the full size drop in handguard looks amazing. It has always looked amazing and functioned well
>>64564088>carbine lengthAlways disgusting no matter what
>>64563257The handguards were always the worst part of the moe set. Stock upgrade, pistolgrip upgrade, handguard sidegrade. Then they were vastly inferior to rails or freefloat. You just got them to complete the look.
>>64562926I have the Magpul MOE on mine. It's a drop in for those guns and does work with the triangle end cap. ( I was quite the dumbass). Ive enjoyed mine so far, it is a little limited when it comes to mounting things but it's a fairly comfy handguard
>>64564141Well sorry for having personal taste in my guns rather than treating my gun purchases like a military procurement program
>>64562926Midwest Industries makes one. https://midwestindustriesinc.com/mi-ar-15-m16-m-series-two-piece-drop-in-handguard-m-lok-compatible/
>>64564193The thing is while there were obvious things wrong with the generic m4 collapsing stock like how loose they could be and people hate the a2 nub. Nothing is wrong with the normal handguard. There's no reason to change it to moe other than cosmetics.
>>64562926here you go>https://midwestindustriesinc.com/mi-ar-15-m16-m-series-two-piece-drop-in-handguard-m-lok-compatible/
>>64564376>There's no reason to change it to moe other than cosmetics.Ergonomics? That matters to me, my furniture choices were not based solely on cosmetics as you suggest
>>64564376>>64564380Thanks fellas. Was gonna default to a quad rail if I didn't find anything but this definitely gives me something to work with. Do they have free float ones?
>>64564042My brother in christ just use an optic or a rail attachment to keep the handguard centered before you screw everything in and release the retainer.
>>64564490I paid $70 all up incl. tax and shipping for a UTG that is practically the same. Not to say MWI doesn't deserve your business, but if money is a factor.
>>64563605>20" ARs lose all their aura when you ditch the fixed stockKek, I have heard this joke before.
>>64564490any 12" (preferably 12.25") free float tail will fit on your rifle after modification, it won't be drop in though.
>>64564515Is that a faxon barrel? Extended A2 birdcage? Just curious
>>64563247Do you live in a world where heavier grain 5.56 bullets don’t gain velocity out of a longer barrel?
>>64564502Link?
>>64562926>Mlok handguard for 20" ARwhy are you like this
>>64564595Cope.
>>64564595>>64564380I don't know man, it looks pretty cool. if I didn't already have an M5 RAS I'd go for it.
im using a picatinny adapter for the front sight base
>>64564682Very sexy
>>64564682very nice. what more do you even need?
>>64564698A better sling. The m1 garand sling is only practical for pic related. You can do modern carry if you get the usgi silent sling. The buttstock adapter isn't necessary.
>>64564020I do it from 1:7
>>64564783What even qualifies as "modern carry" aside from a one-point off the side pretending you're Venom Snake or some shit?
>>64564515That rifle has no aura. It looks just the same as every other reddit gun I've seen a million times.>>64564682Now this rifle has some serious fuckin aura. This is the way to do it op.
>>64564783>modern carryAka larping
>>64564813Something like this where you can quickly shoulder the rifle or put it away and have both hands free. Don't call it metal gear tactical shit when you already riced out your boomer ar15.
>>64564920So it's good for playing army man, got it
>>64564515What rail is that and can I get it in black?IMO it would look infinitely better blacked out with a magpul UBR and more of that MLOK filled in with either pic rails or covers
>>64564937You're not American.
>>64564682Oh….FUCK anon
>>64564999Me on the far right
>>64562926Whew I dunno anon. I use clamshells on my 20” but if you ask me quad rails look pretty good on a 20” too
>>64564999I just sling my rifle across my back like a normal non larping person
>>64564920Thanks for the info. I was being flippant because I've been hearing about people agonizing over slings lately, for some reason, so I figured I'd ask. The way on the guy on the left always made most sense to me if you don't do a one-point, which is what I'd be more liable to do anyways.>Metal gear tactical shitBut I *like* Metal Gear tactical shit>riced out boomer ar15I didn't, it came that way when my dad gifted me a Colt a decade ago>not even the first guy>/k/ is serious business again for too many years now
>>64564987Daniel Defense RIS III 12.5. They're available in black but cost way too much. $400 on primary arms right now.
>>64565365I'm not a fan of the ris 3 with a front sight post upper like that. Would be better with a 16 inch barrel
>>64565195Holy shit he has a Zip .22 on there
>>64563867>I still really like everything I've bought from them.I love Magpul, their stocks, grips and mags, but their glock mags are just landfill waste. Anyone that says otherwise is an actual paid shill.
>>64563857Dissy with magpul rifle length hand guard is pure sexo
>>64566766I swore I'd only ever own 1 AR because I'm not even actually very interested in them, but I DO want that (but with A1 stock).
>>64564583Nvm i'm retarded, i have a carbine gas 16 inch and only run a rail extension out to the FWB
Geissele mk7 I paid $150 for, from a friend who paid $25. Still lacking a peq2. Best of 1.375" 5 shot group from nitrided 1:7 barrel with Taiwanese m193
>>64563257honestly I think a big part of it is that Mlok brought the cost of free floated handguards down to where the cheaper options are less than twice as expensive as a MOE handguard.
IMO mlok looks off on 20”, the worst koreans adopted an MI mlok rail for their m16a1s in reservist use and they look goofy. If you dont want to free float it i’d recommend a FSP rail like what MI makes.
>>64564828You're wrong. That rifle has ALL the aura.-fellow VCOG user.
>>64567161'ate aluminum handguards, luv me Magpul. Simple as
>>64567470No, it doesn't. It's another boring dime a dozen wannabe operator bullshit build.
>>64562926midwest
>>64567693If you'd cared to actually browse the thread you would see that suggestion has been made at least twice. Lazy piece of shit
>>64567518i have an operator bullshit build also
>>64567892The bayonet and A1 grip save it from my damnation lol
>>64567894i declared jihad on the a2 grip so none of my builds run them
>>64567747Midwest
>>64566704why do people parrot this bullshit everywhere? magpul glock mags may wear out faster than OEM (not likely unless you abuse it) but they are 100% reliable.
>>64562926If the plan is to only mount light and maybe a handstop or front grip, I'd seriously consider the rifle legth MOE handguard, as others have suggested. It does the job, is cheap, looks "clean" and judging by the reviews is solid and robust. Surprisingly weighs a bit more than aluminum >>64564380>>64565195>agonizing over slingsI can wholeheartedly recommend quick-adjust 2-point slings. OG VTAC sling is a good example, but similar results can be achieved using even simpler styles and without special buckles, see Varusteleka 2P-RK slings that use double D-rings for quick-adjust and have no extra buckles or features - I shamelessly copied the design using meme-printed webbing to sew some slings for myself and friends and they do work well.
>>64567993>VarustelekaDon't give your money to those forest elf kikes. Get a Vickers sling
Literally any 12 inch rail. I have a Centurion C4 on my dissipator, but in hindsight a chopped ALG would've been cooler.
>>64568019To be clear, I didn't buy that sling - just saw a picture and realized I can make one myself without any "purpose-designed by our team of highly-skilled specialists" slide buckle or 7 different types of milspec nylon, so I did it.I don't hate them though, used to buy stuff there back when they actually did have cheap milsurp - swedish prison pants for 9 euro and finnish jackboots under 40 euro were hard to beat. Lately there's been nothing interesting to me.Vickers sling is nice - simple, elegant and without dangling ends. Also overpriced - Magpul MS3 does the same thing for less money. Also has the option to switch from 2-point to 1-point, which some people find useful. To be honest, an airsoft copy of some decent design would probably be enough, if you don't mind feeding the chinks.>>64564783Even the humble 1990s GI black nylon rifle strap (picrel) would be an improvement over that WWII-style one, as it is longer (allowing decent carry across front of the body and shouldering from that position) and doesn't have clinky sheetmetal buckles. The quick-adjust ones are just nicer/add extra convenience.
>>64568355ww2 sling is peak soul
>>64568529Not him, I agree with your statement, but I advise attaching it without the quick release clip, simply because it's so fucking loud
>>64568538hmm okay
>>64568612By all means try it with the clip, at risk of contradicting myself. Maybe you won't mind the jingling
>>64562926>20" 1:7 barrel
>>64567518We get it. You hate AR15's Extremely original.
