They had good intentions, and I admire them for their mindset, even if they were wrong in the end.
>>
At a certain point, it was more about them stroking their egos by being contrarians than anything else

Contrarianism cannot be "good intentions".

>>64567792
Nah, they were cunts
>>
The possible rise of mass and cheap drone warfare has proven them slightly right.

The "fighter" mafia was overrated.

I guess a reformer fighter design would shoot them down just as well as a top-of-the-line F-35.
If we had that many pilots to spare on drone interceptors.

Drones=guided weapons.
Sprey was adamantly against guided weapons (their kill probability < 10%, sensors able to detect tank doesn't exist).

They thought technology wouldn't advance post WWII, so we have to stick to WWII principles. No one really forseen how the transistor and silicon chip changed everything.

No they did not. They were in it to make a buck.

Ohhh, *that's* why I can use my dick to detect flocks of birds overhead!

Yea, but if he was still alive today you can bet your ass he would be screetching that the F-47 should be canceled and we spend all the money on the cheapest possible fpv drones.

They were and still are right.

Look at every single plane that started out as a air superiority platform from the start:

F-15 - amazing A2A, amazing A2G
F-16 - amazing A2A, amazing A2G

both done during fighter mafia time.

Now look at the multirole SLOP they made afterwards.
F-18? notoriously underpowered.
F-18E/F? notoriously underpowered + 5 degree pylon cant to drag it down even harder. can't go supersonic to save it's life.
F-35? You think they call it "fat amy" because it can turn?

Nah fuck it. If you want a good plane, you design it for A2A, and then if you want it to do A2G, you attach that later. Never ever design anything to be multirole slop from the start. It will suck ass.

F-22 is another fighter mafia win desu.

their F16 would have no radar, only a gun and wingtip AIM-9s, dumbass
>>
>>64571801
This fool is an idiot from the word go.

Imagine if they'd won bigly and the meta everyone followed was still flying lightweight air superiority fighters with no sensors, no night-time capability, limited fuel and a focus on cannons.

A war in Ukraine but instead of S-300s keeping everything locked down you have dogfights everywhere with cheap fighters mobbing any long-range missiles and heavier aircraft. It would be completely retarded and a lot of people would die but it would make for great television.

Bait or actual retard?

So? Not really a problem. The F-16 had tons of stuff fitted to it for other roles, roles which it does very well.
The base airframe though is a mean A2A machine.
There was never any A2A performance in the F-18 or F-35 design.
They're strike planes with atrocious kinematic performance.

My argument holds. If you want a good plane, no matter for what, your design needs to start as an A2A design.
