I'm not sure why you would want anything other than 40sw in an autoloader. 45 for a 1911 for nostalgia is suppose. When it comes to terminal ballistics 40sw performs better than any other regular frame size round. You have to move up to 10mm and a bigger frame, or the revolver magnums from a full size barrel to start seeing any significant increase in terminal performance.

357 SIG ought've been the limp wrister solution, it just camp too late. And 9s have improved enough to make the endeavor marginal. Had 45 GAPe not become vaporware, then it would look even less appealing. It's just nice in the interim while popo trade-ins abound; but that has a definite time limit.

6.5 Creedmoor is a great round, but the .260 Remington already existed (so did a lot of other rifle rounds in the vicinity such as 7mm-08)

According to every set of shooting statistics anyone has ever shown, vs humans or even fucking bears, every single handgun round 380 or larger performs statistically the same (and for .25/.32 you can probably be fine just shooting more). And when all else is equal lower recoil, less cost, and a broad envelope for guns, and what you like is better duh. So if you personally really enjoy 45acp or 40sw and can afford to train properly with them awesome, go for it. Seriously. And they have enough enjoyers that there is zero danger of not having factory ammo support.

But it shouldn't be surprising either that the vast supermajority of the population will just go for the performs-as-well-costs-less-lower-recoil-more-gun-choices cartridge right? Which could have been something else in a different world but in this world it's 9mm. It's decent from ultra compact to PCCs, even 380 is 25% more expensive, anyone can use it, it even suppresses well. It's not min/maxed which in a handgun round turns out to be awesome.
