So, I'm not really an expert, but as I understand it, there are basically 2 kinds. In one kind you get two groups of people, put them in different rooms and give them a scenario. They make decisions and those decisions are passed back and forth by jannies and/or computers. The other kind is where you get all kitted up and go LARP. This can be everything from the boys clearing the barracks to entire carrier groups. This typically also has jannies to resolve the inevitable
>I shot you, you're dead.
>No I'm not, I have body armor
arguments that inevitably arise.

Actual military training wargame is mostly tactical puzzles with an experienced officer as the referee. One or more "players" will move their units on the board and the referee will subjectively provide feedback on it. The objective is not to win the game, but to learn SOPs and expose the neophyte officers to new scenarios that he might encounter irl later. There are no rule books per se and dice might not even be used at all.

Sure they do, by not being cyber capable, they are cut off from hackers. You can also be invincible to hackers by going back to the 1970s.

It's a lot closer to /tg/ or a PC RTS than you think.

Typically you get an inventory of units with stats, and when they do anything opposed by another unit or significantly hard, the umpires give feedback based on the real life statistical performance distributions to evaluate what happens. Sometimes umpires throw in rando events for extra difficulty or balance.

You claim to be from /tg/. You already know how a wargame works.
>unit list for both sides
>assign limits and values to each unit that may or may not reflect reality
>define objectives and win scenarios for either side
>flip coin to see who goes first

Admittedly it's a lot more fun when the units have cool paint jobs.
