>>64580056>The 16th SS Panzergrenadier Division "Reichsführer-SS" (German: 16. SS-Panzergrenadier-Division "Reichsführer SS")[1] was a motorised infantry formation in the Waffen-SS of Nazi Germany during World War II.>The division, during its time in Italy, committed a number of war crimes, and, together with the 1st Fallschirm-Panzer Division Hermann Göring, was disproportionally involved in massacres of the civilian population. One possible reason for the division's increased involvement in war crimes has been identified by the fact that much of its leadership originally came from the SS-Totenkopfverbände.Damn, I like Italians though.
Was the Georgian legion the worst SS division?>couldn't form a battalion>hid on an island>tried to change side>surrendered to a handful of Americans>tried to change side again>county occupied by Stalin>who was himself GeorgianSomeone explain this shit to me, if Stalin was a Georgian was the Georgian SS a domestic rejection of Stalin, a kind of revolt against Stalinist rule, did they just really like Hitler, I don't get it.
>>64580494you dont get why a historically christian country had anti communists?
>>64580494Georgians dont want to be a apart of russia and want their own country. what is to get?
>>64580528Because Russia was ruled by a Georgian, would it not be Russia belonging to Georgia not the other way around?>>64580523I'm trying to understand if the Georgian legion were actually Nazis, or simply domestic opponents of the USSR.Hitler was sick of the Georgians defecting to the red army and didn't see kafkass people as reliable. Hitler actually identified the Chechens as the only reliable ally in the kafkas.Either Hitler was just wrong, or this significantly adds to the confusion. After the war it seems that neither side wanted the Georgians who fought on either (or both) sides.
>>64580548>Because Russia was ruled by a Georgian, would it not be Russia belonging to Georgia not the other way around? That's not how it works
Also noticed online that there's a persistent attempt to pretend certain volenteer ss divisions didn't exist.>nuh-uh none of us joined the nazisNotably there were a number of French who joined various nazi units during the occupation, and who were, from what I gather, told they could either join cannon fodder units on the eastern front, or released a spies to fend for themselves. This would mean that post liberation, there were actually a lot of French national nazis still in France. You'd expect many would be executed by partisans but then again, actually finding them would have been a tall order. There was the kosovar division, politically unpalatable because the Kosovo's are now a regional ally of NATO. The Indian nazi legions were caste based, which upsets everyone in India. But there was 20,000 of them at one point and on paper foreign nationals made up a quarter of the SS. A very different picture of Nazism then we see in the media. The wehrmacht were all uniforms and uniformity but the SS was a circus of foreigners, wierdos, war criminals, people unfit for service, spies, Muslims. Bizarre.
>>64580572I don't know, seems like Russia attacks Georgia all the time yet it's the Georgians who actually cuck Russia. The Russian Mafia is apparently significantly Georgian, Stalin was Georgian, because the Russian oligarchy are essentially nobles many married into Georgian noble families, nobles being few as they were back then. And then georgia does more damage to Russia with bad red wine then the Russians did to Georgia in the last invasion... in which the Russians bombed the Georgian beer factory then went home.I'm just fascinated with the kafaas, nothing makes sense to me about it.

>>64580575>There was the kosovar division, politically unpalatable because the Kosovo's are now a regional ally of NATO.Kosovo didn't exist as a polity during the Second World War. You're probably thinking the 13th SS Mountain Division "Handschar", which was comprised of Bosnian and Croatian Muslims.>The wehrmacht were all uniforms and uniformity but the SS was a circus of foreignersA sizable chunk of the Heer were also foreign-born. It was extremely common on the Eastern Front for anti-Soviet locals (mainly anti-Communists and non-Russian minorities) to be recruited or just straight-up impressed into Heer units even though it was against German law at the time (non-German ethnicities were expelled from the Reichswehr starting in 1934 and this ban carried over into the Wehrmacht, although it was regularly circumvented). One of the reasons why D-Day was so successful was because Atlantic Wall defenses were mainly manned by Osstruppen (Ukrainians, Russians, Turkics, Cossacks, etc.) who were poorly armed, poorly trained, poorly motivated, and often violently mistreated by their German officers and had little love for a regime where they were seen as little more than slaves.

>>64580575those foreing units where always a mix of full up volunteers, those that volunteered but not for what they ended up doing, the voluntold and some last chancers. my grandfathers oldest brother served in the Flemish SS. ha and my grandfather where considered folks Deutche because their grandmother came to belgium after the prussian annexations in west Germany.he had 3 options: 1. go into hiding and become a "traitor" his family would lose their rations and all but death sentence for his 4 younger siblings2. get conscripted into the Heer and end up God knows where3. volunteer for the Flemish SS where you are told you'd serve under a Flemish commander, have a Flemish chaplain, fight with your countrymen for Flanders.so he volunteered, there never was a Flemish commander or chaplain.the formation consisted of a hardcore old guard whom had volunteered for the SS before the creation of a Flemish unit. the bulk where men recruited from and by third way movements in Flanders that chose to collaborate. with the promise of fighting under a Flemish commander, having a Flemish Chaplin and fighting for Flanders. most of them initially refused to take the oath to hitler and got the whole unit branded as disloyal.there where the "priests sons" men who had volunteered after sermons from priest to go fight a crusade against communism.men whom had volunteered for various support units or to go work in germany that got drafted into the combat unit.a sordid mix of adventures, freebooters and miscreant given the option between jail or a concentration camp and service.I'm not denying the overall volunteer nature of many national SS divisions, many did volunteer out of their own free will and many more simply didn't mind fighting with the germans.but just as many made that choice after being misled by the germans, while under distress or under force.

Still, it's ironic no?But it's not just foreigners, as in local partisans/collaborators, but the trans national fighters who joined the SS from distant and neutral countries. Seemingly with no personal connection to Germany or the conflicts in which they fought, and they weren't really mercenaries, more like soldiers seeking personal honour. Ronin.I was going to make some YouTube video on the subject but there's a very good thesis written by Karl Schmidt called the theory of partisan, which goes into the culture of insurgency and advent of modern trans national terrorism, military tourism and volenteer units.
