What do y'all think? Was it a well-deserved win?

> Sons of Liberty Gun Works (SOLGW) is proud to announce it has been awarded a contract by U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) for the Combat Assault Rifle (CAR) program. Following a rigorous competitive evaluation, a select-fire variant of the SOLGW MK1 rifle with an 11.5-inch barrel was chosen to equip America’s most elite warfighters.

It's ok. But should have gone with the H.C.A.R.

price and manufacturing capability were probably some of the main factors

There is nothing special about the gun relative to any other gucci AR, so I'm guessing geissele or somebody else related to the URGI has been gouging the price and this is to put them in their place; because otherwise the obvious solution to the contract was just a short MK16 on existing CQBRs. I remember reading regarding the Ranger rifle trial in the UK that Colt Canada was excluded from running in that trial because they had not been consistent with the pricing of prior C8 acquisitions, so this kind of punitive action is probably normal.

I don't get it

SOCOM is opting for a different barrel steel than is listed on the solgw website. The P3 rifling is good. The titanium barrel nut and their proprietary rail are actually quite good. It has an A5. Interestingly for a 556 rifle it has 5/8x24 threading, no idea why.

All in all the rifle does basically nothing that the 11.5 URGI M4A1 doesn't, but socom wanted to actually issue a complete 11.5 rifle and not the current solution of an M4A1 14.5 URGI and an additional 11.5 upper to inventory and keep track of.

I'm guessing geissele put their super duty 11.5 in the ring against it and they probably couldn't compete on price or some other criteria

Yeah this will TOTALLY not backfire, H&K is paying dozens of engineers and test personnel to test shit in the arctic and deserts for NO REASON I am sure.

How much does it weight?

it's a fucking nothingburger

>11.5" chads keep winning
10.x' and 12.x" virgins keep coping. 11.5" is the ideal barrel length outside of SPR/DMR use.

how many different AR-15 derivatives/variants are there in US service?

Yes

The 1/2" threading is supposedly a weak point. A few high end barrel manufacturers also believe 5/8" is better for longevity and accuracy.

My mom told me the other day a doctor said some issues a patient was having was a 'nothingburger'. I just want to say that I hope anyone who uses that phrase gets crabs.

Even funnier, you caught an STD from your spouse.

>SOCOM buying a gucci gun in small quantities
Must seem interesting if you're unaware they do this constantly. Maybe they'll choose to use it at some point in the next 30 years.

Of what, one gun? What were the other guns?
