M4 and non-bullpups are shit. I was in the ausfag army from 2008-2012 and we use the steyr which is a bullpup. We got the SR25 and the HK417 for afghan and I fucking hated it. It was long as fuck, front heavy and a pain in the arse to carry. The cocking handle is in a stupid place and you can't fit it through a doorway or in a vehicle. The only good thing about the M4 is the push button mag release.
As a bong cant appreciate the M4, the L85A2 has a 20" barrel in a length the same as or shorter than the M4.

As much as I want to keep this thread about direct impingement ARs how is the HK416 generally seen? They call if "M416" in certain games but it was originally meant to be called "HK M4". Besides the AR-18 gas system is it really seen as being much different to the M4 visually and functionally? Despite their differences I usually lump them together when it comes to aesthetics

I like AK-47s, Galils, FALs and G3s as much as the next person but one thing I yearn for is African nations finally retiring those for M4s and other modern US/western gear (not to say I think they should be even more dependent on the west as given the history and even present day political climate that wouldn't be great for them). At the very least even if they mostly don't transition to 5.56 it's great to see them adopt modern AK variants as well as modern rifle platforms chambered in 7.62x39. Any picrel is just Ivorian SOF swapping their Tavors for US SOF M4s

The safety on the steyr is a cross bolt style, you push a little button in with your thumb and it immediately goes off safe onto fire. You can easily fire single shots with one trigger pull or just pull more and it goes to full auto. The M4 safety is this stupid bullshit toggle thing where you flick it forward onto semi auto and then you can't flick it back up to safe again without moving your entire firing hand around and hooking the safety under the back of your thumb and pushing it back up to safe again. You physically can't put the rifle in full auto either without moving the fire selector 180 degrees away from the safe position which is impossible to do with one hand while keeping your firing hand grip in place.>the bolt catchThe bolt release in the middle of the receiver on the wrong fucking side of the rifle! Your left hand is holding onto the handguard miles away from it and you can't activate the bolt release with your trigger finger.
