Drone fighters. Autistic and schizo as hell, but bear with me /k/. Discussed it somewhat with buddies before and we managed to surprisingly have a more in-depth discussion than I anticipated.>Take a Bayraktar.>Put some 7.62 mm machine guns on it. >Guns can be activated and fired using remote control.>Basic pipper to aim the guns.>Can be used to take down just about any kind of drone you want if you have enough ammunition. Concerns we ran into were if there would be a need for a proper fire control system to aim the guns more accurately, ammunition carrying capacity and restraint from weight, and endurance. Your thoughts, /k/?
Ah, I was hoping you were talkinbout UAVs replacing manned jets for fucking dogfighting and shit. The dream of the pilot/RTS master who controls his UAV swarm from his EW-ready eye in the sky fucking blackbird looking jet. I feel like the cost benefit favors drone-focused ground based AA, you'd need an insanely expensive and heavy drone if you want to mount guns, you'd get outmaneuvered by the cheap drones you are targeting, and losing 100x the money in an exchange
Drones appear super effective but i think they are overselling how effective they really are. They will probably being used currently to gain strategic positions but probably will be used in the long run for VIP.
>>65174627I've heard Turkish troops put PKMs (I'm not entirely sure but they were 7.62 mm whatever they used) on Bayraktars and had some success. They could carry the machine guns just fine.
>>65174634They've been shown to take down helicopters in the air and destroy bombers on the ground. I'd say it's only a matter of time until it gets stepped up.
>>65174639Had some success... shooting down other drones? Or getting airborne and firing the rifles?
>>65174645TV-guided missiles
>frogposter>retarded low effort thread disguised as "discussion"Get a job, faggot
>>65174706and yet you are by far the worst poster ITT
>>65174703Getting airborne and firing the guns. They also managed to put 81 mm mortars on them and it handled it fine.
>>65174704Too expensive.
>>65174592>feasible.No. It's necessary. How did we fight airplanes in the past? With other airplanes. Drones need to be taken down by other drones.>why not manned planes?Because of the balance of equation. A human pilot costs $10-20 MILLION to train to combat readiness. Drones costs $5k to $100k. You're literally wasting money.>muh ground based dakka/SAMsDrones are so cheap that they can saturate ground based AD. Such defences are of the last resort.
>>65174592It is done but lugging 7lb to shoot dirtbags with 30 rnd magazine is not very worth it when you can throw a half a pound frag grenade or full pound rpg into tanks.
