Wouldn't a .22LR gatling gun with very high fire rates be a better weapon to defeat drones?

Just make it as portable as it can.

Assign one guy in the squad to carry this weapon and make him carry a lot of ammo.

3000 rounds of .22LR should weight 12kg.

BRRRRRRRRRRRR on the drones.

Why not try taking cover in the sunflower field? The best outcome is the drone getting detonated by the stalks.

Why bother? Going through the effort of developing that kind of weapon, training the meat to use it then having to deal with all the hassle of supplying and maintaining it sounds like a major pain.

>Wouldn't a .22LR gatling gun with very high fire rates be a better weapon to defeat drones?
Gatlings are inefficient af. Too heavy, and all the ammo gets wasted in a handful of bursts.

What you want is an assault rifle-style automatic shotgun. Semi, 3-round burst and full auto switch, 12-gauge, large mag (24 rounds min), big nigger (3½'') shells, tungsten shot, turkey/super full choke, individual pellet diameter min 5 mm, etc.

MCG's would cost about 20 guns worth to build. The bullets are unobtanium for the russians. That and a single bad bullet on a recoil based system means it jams. If it's electronic, good luck keeping it in service out in the marsh summers and permafrost winters.

IMO only robots can beat other robots (not that FPV is really "robot").

You want a Temu triple threat of:

radar, visual, audio detection/targeting

something on a tripod that one guy can carry.

when fully deployed its legs might be 12' high.

among other things, besides a gun, it should have lasers and/or spotlight to light up and blind FPV drones, or robot hunter/killers.

lighting up a drone with lasers/spot light would allow other meatbags to attempt to engage, or at least know WTF it is.

but for now I'm thinking a good semi-auto shotgun with fast reloading big clips would be the thing.

I'm working on one of these then put extended tube and get those quick reloading tubes.

spotlight, laser and red-dot.

then....wait for it....

some thing where it can rest/pivot off a tripod, but can also instantly be lifted off the stand.

Stand would allow 360 and maybe -30 to +70, but would rock on a roller, so it wouldn't be flopping to either side, and could be reloaded with kwik-tube.

Its called a m1911. Walk over to where the bad man made the drone, shoot him. Then the bad man who sold it, shoot him too. Definitely shoot the bad man who bought it. Shoot the bad man who delivered it to a warehouse and shoot the man who took it from there to the front line. Shoot them at any time. At work, at home. When he's shopping, picking up the children, fucking his wife. Total indiscriminate terror against military drone infrastructure defeats drones every time.
>>
Soon, people connect the dots. The over anxious wife realises her husband who orders drones might be next. The terrified father who manages warehouses witj drones takes sick days as he might be next. The son, petrified of being shot in the same streets he grew up in, quits his job delivering drone parts.

None of these bad men come close to the front line. But that doesn't guarantee their safety. The only thing that guarantees their safety is never being bad men who enable other bad men to use drones.

Americans are a little cut up about how they now have to purchase drones from Ukraine, as a matter of fact.

Definitely would not describe it as their favourite thing that has happened.

And since the Germans paid big for the information in Delta's datalake, you see Data centres erupting all over the US with all kinds of flimsy pretexts for their utility when they're just frantically trying to play catch up, with the small side effect of diminished social cohesion and general public outrage.

because an autonomous system would be too heavy and handheld systems still require users to be alerted to the presence of the drone. having your head on a swivel 24/7 looking for drones is not feasible, let alone the skill needed to reliably shoot them down.

It’s so gay how there isn’t tech to perimeter pluralize ammo production.
The best you can do is shot gun tier with lead bullets, low pressures and paper cartridges.
I want to be able to make cartridges from 20 to 120mm with cutting edge cuts at barrel melting pressures as a hobby with with the appropriate pre fabbed kit that can fit in a ruck or two.
Drones are the someway. The chips require so many hours of labor it’s insane, and that’s just to get a single chip. The buildup is incredible.

proxy fuse HE scaled down to 10ga AKA 20mm

https://fnamerica.com/products/military/fn-mtl-30/

some of you fags say in modern infantry combat a precision GL is more important than rifle, so just tweak existing Proxy Fuse 30mm into one of these.

I'd bet 30mm HEAT could kill most APCs and even many tanks if hit in right spot.

Tungsten penetrates better. It's nearly as dense and much stronger. Uranium might be self-sharpening but without the mechanical strength to cut into armor this means very little. Really, the biggest advantage is that Uranium is pyrophoric, igniting when unoxidized surfaces are exposed to air. This gives DU a mild incendiary effect.

A lot of media degrees went into the armed forces, and it shows when you compare Ukie production openings to the lame 90s-looking ones Russia has.

What mildly upsets me is that Hezbollah drone vids look almost as good as far as opening/closing FX go.
>>
>>65216556
A modernized American-180 loaded with tracers and extra hot rat shot would basically do what you want.

The problem with your entire premise is Russia doesn't actually care if these guys die. You need to realize that these guys are a modern form of penal troops. Everything about them is expendable. They're out there because they pissed off someone higher up, they're foreign, or they're not important enough to be safe from being voluntold to go die. The Russians wouldn't waste time or resources giving them tools meant to counter drones. There is no "squad". There's you and maybe one other guy with food and water for a day or two and you're told to "walk that way". Meeting other Russians can be every bit as dangerous as running into Ukrainians.

The entire strategy is creeping enough Russia aligned troops into an area to be able to say it's occupied without risking the loss of a large offensive.
