There's Neoplatonism as a philosophy and then there's the schizo side where you sacrifice to airy demons. For philosophy, Plotinus is obviously he place to start. His general method is to use Aristotelian concepts and logic to defend Platonism - I think that's the essence of all Neoplatonism, regardless of the individual philosopher's attitude toward Aristotle (Plotinus' was very negative). Plotinus' understanding of mystick ascent is pretty much the same as Plato's - yes the philosopher proceeds to a state beyond discursive thinking, but rigorous thinking + virtuous living is the way to get there, not sacrificing roosters or making talismans.

On the schizo side, well it's all bullshit friend. Hermetic texts are at best dumbed-down renderings of Plato. Forget about the mumbo jumbo and use the brain your immortal soul gave you.
