Do any of you wear headphones while reading? Do you listen to music or rain sounds or something? If so, do you match it to the book you're reading?I have a pair of noise canceling earbuds that do a pretty good job of quietting the outside world. Sometimes I'll put on a little white noise too.
>>24844620Just noise cancelling headphones too, nothing playing. I only use them when someone else is home and I need it quiet.
>>24844620Depends. 90% of my reading is done in my bedroom but I put on headphones and play white noise on low volume on them when/if I have to read outside. It drones out any outside noises/conversations without being too obtrusive during my reading. >Noise cancelling I'm convinced this is just a marketing meme. A few years ago I bought super expensive big dick AND headphones (xm4) and lo and behold, they don't provide that "zipped in" airlock noise cancelling that the jewtubers sold me on, it only drones out constant noise like the sound of an air conditioner or whatever have you but it won't do shit if someone is talking next to you. Not just that but turning on the ANC doesn't really shut up outside noises it just... Makes them sound different, the noise is still there and very noticeable.
>>24844664Yeah, if someone is talking right next to you, even the best ANC headphones aren't going to completely block it out. >Sony XM4s I can attest, though, that Sony's noise canceling is subpar when compared to Bose and Apple, even on their brand new XM6s. They rely on a combination of Active and Passive noise canceling (forceful headclamping or deep ear buds) whereas Bose and Apple have much better ANC technology.
I don't anymore, but when I lived in a noisy apartment building I would put on rifle range earmuffs lol. It was great I couldn't hear a thing.
>>24844620ear plugs or over the ear hearing protection to block out noise. The person above walks laps around their apartment all day.
>>24844620just READ DUDE LMAO.
>>24844664My AirPods Pro will definitely make it hard for me to hear people talk if I turn on noise cancelingSounds like the ANC you’ve tried so far just isn’t that good
>>24844620I’ve played some blade runner ambience or noir soundtracks (check out Bohren) depending on what I read. Noise generators I use for studying. Pink noise especially. Star Trek engine noise is also good.
>>24846022TNG engine noise 12 hours is really nice, thanks anon
I listen to dark academia
>>24847303I listen to light academia.
I often do. Especially now since I don't live alone anymore, it's really a must.Keep returning to listen to Stars of the Lid when I read, really the important thing is that it's music without vocals or any sudden jumps in tempo.
Music on my noise-cancelling headphones helps motivate me to read, especially in the morning. Usually ambient soundscapes or other very slow-moving drone sounds. For fiction I do try to fit the music to the book, but for nonfiction and philosophy I want plain and slow-moving sounds or (ideally) complete silence. Even for fiction the album often plays and I'm focused enough on reading that I don't notice when the music stops but I keep reading. Other kinds of white noises (sounds of rain, storms, wind, waves, "color" noises, even dinosaur ambience) generally work too. If I really need to focus on something I have a pair of 3M peltor x5 earmuffs to block out as much sound as possible. They are better than my "noise-cancelling" headphones but I don't think anything is truly "noise cancelling" unless you book a soundproof room. Off-topic, but they also help quiet a racing brain when I'm trying to sleep. Maybe that can help another anon out there.
>>24847326>I don't live alone anymore, it's really a must.Why is this?
Headphones are anti-life devices and I shan't be using them in public.
>>24844620i play this on 80% volume when i read before bedhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Di5CXCunGGY
