What was it specially about this era that made it so goated?
>>248719235th century Greece, Dolce Stil Novo, Elizabethan England, Spanish Golden Age, German Romanticism and Anglo-Modernism all surpass it.
>>24871923It has some good shit, namely Carlyle, Carroll, Tennyson, Browning and Swinburne, but it's on the whole overrated as fuck.
It was inspired by bloodborne. Imagine a game so good it inspires a whole epoch in the past. Barring the horror and werewolves (lame).
>>24871923It was unironically pretty degenerate. People just kept the kinky shit behind closed doors.
>>24871923It always felt like a transition era, going from the rough pugnacious island to a calmer civilized one. The transition from the Georgians to the Edwardians.
>>24871923Dickens
>>24872880Based.
>>24871923Inertia from pre-industrial era carrying aesthetics and values into the industrial.
>>24872497what am i looking at?
>>24873022A victim of Jack the Ripper
>>24873069How could a man named Jack The Ripper act like this?
>>24872497>>24873069Mary Jane Kelly wasn't killed by Jack. She was killed by a woman.
>>24871923The British ran the world and it was beautiful.
I have zero interest in it
>>24871923Stability, infinite optimism
>>24873069I feel like he could help me learn how to field dress a deer
>>24871923Compared to Elizabethan England it was a cultural wasteland. The Victorian Era was the UK hollowing itself out through capitalism, industrialization, and secularization. Its only good writers were those who recognized this like Carlyle
Victorian puritanism is a myth. People were just as fucked up as they were today. Read Psychopathia Sexualis. Also people were arguably getting laid more back then. Prostitution was rampant, there was no feminism, there was way more social pressure for people to get married
>>24875607The Elizabethan era had one (1) writer that’s still talked about today, whereas the Victorian era has dozens.>>24875619>there was no feminismlook up the “new woman” movement
>>24875633i would rather have shakespeare than every british novelist writing (and probably the poets too) in the victorian era (and it is not as if shakespeare was the only elizabethan writer with any talent)
>>24875687theater is inferior to the novel
>>24875702even granting that, the greatest playwright of all time is still superior to all but the greatest novelists.
A strong female leader.
