Is the nobel prize in Literature a legitimate award or are there too many political shenanigans behind it?
No.
Not as pozzed as the nobel peace prize but still pretty politicized all things considered. It's not without it's merits but the merits aint particularly remarkable with a bias towards whatever the US wants at the time

>>25295976You can posit a fascist reading of Utena very easily, and nobody will be able to argue against it due to its postmodern nature. There's a good reason why most japanese avant-garde poets became ultranationalists, their frustration and generational trauma stemmed from their humiliated ancestors. This is richly depicted in Shuji Terayama's Death in the Country, a work from which Utena borrows much.>heterosexual relationships are portrayed as a profound truth that the kids aren't ready for>all gay or otherwise degenerate relationships presented in the show are toxic and ultimately broken out of by the abused party>gayness is something you grow out ofIt has a very traditionalist asian approach to degeneracy, when you really pay attention.Besides, Utena and Anthy are only good friends in the show, with no indication otherwise, and both of them having sex with men. It's in the movie that Ikuni caved in to the fans, and made them lesbians. He likes to pretend that he made all of Utena alone, but he's largely an idea guy. The show was a kind of meeting of minds that only happens a few times within any given medium, and it would have been nothing if not for Enokido (a much more successful and overall competent anime guy) forcing him to sort his shit out. When Ikuni tries to make auteur works afterwards, it always ends in disaster.
>>25295976Adolescence is one of the greatest movies ever made of all time.
>>25296061>both of them having sex with menHaving sex with me specifically
>>25296061This isn’t a traditionalist idea of homosexuality, especially for Japan
>>25296112Yes, there is a good reason why Saionji and Touga are samurai-themed. In the end that's just the japanese bromance though, they have their respective true love interests.
>>25296116A woman cannot really reciprocate a man’s feelings, so it cannot be a true love interest
>>25296061Anon, the show is VERY pro-gay and lends itself to feminist readings very easily. Unless you assume that Akio was in the right all along and REALLY lean in to the gnostic side of things, you’d really have to stretch to view it through a fascist lens.IMO, Utena is the good kind of “progressive”. It just unfortunately attracts the undesirable type of progressives into its fanbase. The only thing I’ll give you is that that Ikuhara wasn’t 100% the brainchild behind Utena, which is why Adolescence and the other Ikuhara-only projects have a different vibe.
>>25296137Being pro-gay and fascist is not only possible, but compulsory.
>>25296144Fascist pro-gay is male on male love. Utena leans heavily into female on female love, and all the male gay relationships are depicted as toxic and manipulative. Granted, the female ones are too. But Utena and Anthy and Juri and Shiori have their relationships mended through the events of the show. Touga and Saionji were fuck buddies at best, and Akio fucking Touga was purely a power play on his part.
>>25296154Lots of fascist lesbians too. Jutta Rüdiger
>>25296061>Besides, Utena and Anthy are only good friends in the showcome on now.
>>25296168Well, yes. A key scene in the show is the poisoned tea and cookies. This scene critically displays that Utena actually gets Anthy. Rather than obsessing over her looks or status, she is interested in holding a conversation. Utena tries at length to get into Anthy's head over the course of the show, and eventually manages to do so. The final 'twist' is not a surprise to her, it's what she needs to get through, to treat Anthy as a person even after all that. This is not at all a matter of emotion or romance, and entirely a matter of camaraderie and general companionship. Anthy didn't need to be loved, but she did need to remember having fun.
>>25296190Getting a tranny vibe from these posts
>>25296200But wouldn't a tranny want to be a girl just so they can be a lesbian, thereby being a normal straight male in a comedically roundabout way? I don't think such people would advocate for two girls just being friends.
>>25296206Just the way you write and the avatarfagging
>>25296214I just like the show very much, what can i say. What does somewhat spoil my enjoyment over time are the gnostic aspects. Not that J.A.Caesar makes bad music.(What is it with asians and Herman Hesse, anyway?)
>>25296220The 70s apparently had a thing for Hermann Hesse in Japan. Ikuhara got recommended to read a book from Herman Hesse from a friend during that time period. The friend literally saying that everything in the book Demian as incredibly important and changed his life.Years latter Ikuhara would run into that friend once more and ask about the book and it's influence again but it that friend completely forgot about it. Forgot what it was about, what moved him or that he even recommended the book to Ikuhara in the first place.
>>25295897It's less pozzed than both peace prize and economics prize. But that's now saying much.
Ah here it isnazi utena slaughtering the soviets in a king tiger tank fanfiction accompanied this image. I didn't save the actual text unfortunately.
>>25296477Do we get rape kino of her during the storming of Berlin?
>>25296061should I watch this trannycore garbage or is it really about a girl becoming a promiscuous whore but it's actually deep like everyone says it ist. i like regular magical girls
>>25296546I've never seen someone claim Utena is about a girl becoming promiscuous and I can't imagine how it could be interpreted that way
For fuck sake can you focus on the question at hand.Just how pozzed is the nobel prize in literature.
>>25295897Also may I addIt has a pretty strong bias towards literal whos who happen to have a lot of connections in the literary industry as opposed to any writer who's actually alive and relevant. I like to keep up with some contemporary authors but even than I hardly see discussions related to a lot of winners because it happens to be some literal who from Norway. They also dont enjoy putting writers who might be too subversive or problematic when it comes to their writing on a pedestal because it might hurt people's fee fees>>25296144Queer culture in the west has it's roots found mostly in the european aristocracy and high culture. Taking in underage slave boys from poorer families could be seen as a form of class aggression but any commie, it makes sense from an ideological perspective that such an act would be so strongly despised by them during the strongest years of the USSR. I just fail to see the ideological correlation between homosexuality and fascism beyond obsession with aesthetics and imagery, but everyone who is too obsessed with aesthetic and imagery inevitably turns a bit gay
I like the nobel prize, but I don’t get invested into it every year.I don’t believe that they always award peak authors, they missed out on too many great writers in the past, but too many people get angry at the fact that Philip Roth or Borges didn’t win when in reality they didn’t need it to be visible when someone like Jose Saramago, Naguib Mahfouz or Kenzoburo Oe, Peter Handke etc. earned a lot more on then they ever could. So as far as pushing publishers into translating works of selected writers they are great.
>>25296827Now that you mention Handke, I really wonder how he slipped through the cracks and got one. Not because of the lack of merit but because his unorthodox political beliefs.
>>25296864I’m not saying the left wing bias isn’t real in case of Nobel committee but didn’t Fosse also “slip by” as a deeply religious catholic and that was only 3 years ago
>>25295890it's bullshit, they used to only give it to authors long in their twilight since the prize is essentially a "great career!" trophy that pretends to be about recent works (hemingway is a great example). it's a bit like getting a best picture oscar for a commercial
>>25296887Catholics are centrist good goys. Hanke is a begome ordodox genocide denier.
>>25296061>posit
>>25295890All Nobel Prize winners in Literature are good writers, but not all good writers have won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
>>25296949han kang really isn't a good writer. nor is robert zimmerman
>>25295897>bias towards whatever the US wants at the timeI doubt that's true
>>25295890every single famous award organization has been pozzed. they are all fake and gay. subversion os the shitlib MO
>>25296112>>25296144>>25296816Sounds like a lot of faggot cope to me.
>>25297314also the opposite is true, anti america/israel writers never won the prize either
>>25296949i don't think mo yan is very good but he won it. why? because he had strong inside connections. it's just a handful of swedes who decide so you can easily ingratiate yourself with one or two of them.
The best book won't win, but the winner will still be pretty good. Unlike the Hugos and Nebulas.
>>25298189>Unlike the Hugos and Nebulas. What do you mean, the best guys win OR the winner is potentially sshit.
