>garn bottlo yesterday to get a slab of Guinness and some lambrusco
>decide to go to the book shop while I'm there because I need some new novels to read
>in the mood for Dickens so it shouldn't be too much of a stretch to expect to find inside a chain bookstore in regional Australia
>book it to the classics section (no pun intended)
>yep, there it is on the top shelf
>pull out copy of Great Expectations
>holy shit it's only $10
>cover doesn't look half bad either
>cozen that shit into my possession, ownership pending
>browse around for some other stuff while I'm there
>Don Quixote -- been meaning to pick that up...
>Henry David Thoreau, Walden & Civil Disobedience -- that's only $10 too, might as well...
>penguins buy 1 get 1 half price -- Borges & Beowulf...
>but all these things are secondary to how stoked I am to have found this copy of Great Expectations at the price I found it
>mosey over to checkout
>let some women who was buying a picture book for presumably a child who was coalescing on the counter in sync with me go first
>drop books on counter once it's my turn
>making awkward small talk with cute cashier while she's scanning
>'getting a few books?'
>'haha yeah -- just stocking up.'
>'haha yeah...' etc
>she scans Great Expectations

There’s no point buying books physically in Australia because they’re too expensive. The best place I ever bought books in person was Sainsbury’s in Melbourne where you could get second-hand books in good condition for $1 to $5

I put a little library outside my house and within a month, it had acquired a copy of Dark Emu. I can't escape that idiotic propaganda.
