i can't think of something worse than reincarnation/eternal recurrence, you're getting fucked for eternity or until you get out (can take billions of years) and you don't even remember, what's the point to teach someone a lesson if they can't remember anything?

>>25329429Paris is weird because of the sharp contrast between nice historical areas, nice touristy areas, and stepping one foot over the line into the Congo with mattresses on the streets, literal rag picking places where clothes are just dumped into piles, designated zones for junkies and thieves (Gare du Nord). I spent a week just going to the Louvre though, there's so much to see it's almost endless. Fantastic Art Nouveau architecture. Churches like Notre Dame are even more impressive when you consider the history. Trying to do a modern day Grand Tour is depressing in the long run though because every fucking city is subject to the same disease. Be it from the sudden Marrakesh markets no matter where you are, to the soulless glass homunculi of globalist architecture. Anything interesting tends to be 100 years old or more. Reminders of times and places that are going to be lost in another 100. tl;dr Westfalen

>>25329822>just revealed to me he doesn't even know what that word means.
>>25329429It seems like everyone thinks sexual urges become increasingly degenerate over time. The rationale often given is that one becomes desensitized to certain material and need more extreme content to get a kick out of it. Some describe it as a spiral, while others don't state it as extremely but still seem to agree that one becomes increasingly degenerate as they are exposed to more material.I have never had such an experience; all my fetishes have been the exact same since I was young and have never become more extreme. How I engage with a particular fetish does not change much over time and is mostly a day to day difference. This makes me think that degenerate thoughts are not developed but are rather masked by a guilty consciousness. As a person is exposed to more material, they become more aroused and feel less guilty. It may also be similar to how certain addicts binge. This seems to explain the difference between my view and others. I don't feel any guilt and thus never felt a need to stop my degenerate thoughts, whereas others feel guilt and thus mask their thoughts until they "spiral".

>>25329769I get why people minmax their time, from a practical POV. You're only there once in a lifetime perhaps, you only have the weekend. But even so the whole thing of rushing through to see Venus and maybe Mona Lisa and then being like "yeah I visited the Louvre, it was boring", that actually grates a bit. >>25329760I get your point, and there's certainly some merit for putting China, Korea and Japan on the list, since they have an actual heritage and tradition to draw from. However, I've only been in Tokyo myself, and their museums weren't bad, but it's almost comedic how thin the study of their own history is compared to an average Euro bumfuck museum. There's also a striking amount of focus on the western influence arriving and changing their society, in the deep past it's China and Korea. This weeb focus of Glorious Japanese Culture, folded over 1000 time, didn't really manifest itself. For the Gulf states you're dealing with a sandlot with nothing to show for itself. The modern stuff is completely soulless, like a Trump interior. The arabs aren't always happy to admit there's a culture before Mohammed, but in Iraq you at least have the cradle of civilization to boast about. Not that anyone's taken great care of it. Same with Iran. Muslims as a rule would rather blow up statues and make a parking lot out of their own history (see how they handled the expansion in Mecca). All of which is to say, the European long arc of history seems both a particular cultural preoccupation, and when it comes to just preserving and highlighting their own heritage, maybe China belongs on that list. From the rest of the world you'll see more of their highlights preserved on the European grand tour. >>25329527>World of Yesterday by ZweigI haven't read this but I'm adding it to my reading list. Vienna is another pearl of Europe, and for a taste of culture shock in practice you should take a daytrip to Budapest where you'll see much of the same gorgeous historical buildings, in absolute ruin. You'll even notice when you switch countries from when the train tracks start to overgrow and the passing stops get busted windows and graffiti covering them. For anyone doubting the impact of what culture can do, it's a practical demonstration.

The thing that I don't really understand with those Paris 1968 type academics is how did none of them consider that if the system they were claiming to rebel against granted them sinecures even though it knew about their attitudes, then that could have only been because it did not see them as genuinely threatening at all. Which would have put their whole revolutionary LARP in question. If the powers that be considered you a real problem, then they would have booted you out of their insitutions at the first sign of open dissent.
Do you think using Ruby Tuesday as a nom de guerre is allowed?

>>25330054You too I see. I also did it last year with similar benefits. The issue is that as much as it pains me to admit it, i'm not good at managing loneliness and the internet + videos are like prescribed drugs for it, so i eventually returned to old schedule.
Fucckkkkk I just cracked my ankle like you crack your knuckles feels so fuckin good
It kinda makes me sad that I'm finally on the right track in life, but it was thanks to absolutely nobody around me. I was never exposed to the right stuff outside of youtube videos of old intellectuals and writers, and even my friends have often been a negative influence on me. So it's like, you can either follow the crowd, or take the right path in life and go your own way, but you'll be really damn lonely. It's like, man..... not one? Not one person in these environments has their head in the right place? What the fuck man?Maybe this is what Augustine was talking about in Confessions.
This has a total fucking opposite affect.
>>25329760Might as well be a list of shopping malls. >>25330002>their museums weren't bad, but it's almost comedic how thin the study of their own history isSo, I don't know if you read any Japanese, but my observation was that the signs in museums and historical sites don't necessarily say the same things in English and Japanese. The English text will indeed engage very little with Japanese history, and will never fail to mention Commodore Perry or America in general, if they are involved in any way. The Japanese text can sometimes be completely different, if the site involves a lot of historical figures whose names are simply not at all familiar to English speakers. I think they assume that foreign tourists just do not want read about how the 14th abbot of this or that monastery erected this shrine for the 11th abbot who had been assassinated by allies of the Daimyo of wherever, during the such and such rebellion you've never heard of, etc. And I guess they are right, 99% of the other tourists I saw there were clearly not interested in anything but fronting on social media. I found my trip a lot more informative once I started reading everything through a visual translator app on my phone, and brushing up on all the names and places with wikipedia.
Any possible sense of fucking comfort.
>>25330067Yehws :3c>>25330069Me too. For me it's mostly PTSD related anxiety that occasionally makes it hard to be "alone with my thoughts" so to speak and forces me to seek out totally attention-consuming entertainment, which never ends up being a temporary thing. I might start leaving my phone in my car to create a physical-psychological separation. I don't regret moving to where I did but I didn't anticipate how much I'd miss being able to see my family with just a short trip.
All these retarded fucking accusations that I've now internalized.

>Breaking into a man's private thoughts>Divesting things he never wished to be shared>Reformatting them to be retarded>Attacking and defaming them>Continuing to tell him you know to this day>They may have even kind of liked you
I've realized that people have more consideration for a work's content rather than its aesthetics or technical qualities.Like, no one in this world has ever praised Sanderson or Rowling's writing style, but the people who consume those works praise the heckin' magic system or le heckin' mages doing magical things. Ignoring a technical quality, I can understand and even give it a pass. But ignoring the aesthetic is weird because I always thought it was the most immediate element one notices when stumbling upon an artwork.
I don't deserve this shit buddy.
When Japanese companies say that X or Y person "graduated" it makes it sound so much more ominous than if they were honest and just said that they fired X or Y because they broke company policy.

>>25330135I don't believe you at all. You're a liar.
>>25330091Yeah I'm not saying the history is especially interesting, just that you can access a lot more information that way. One of the things that is highlighted in the Japanese language sources that they don't bother to tell foreigners about is the centuries of struggle for influence between Shinto shrines, Buddhist temples, and syncretic combinations of the two. This is all a lot more obvious to Japanese people, who will have an immediate impression of what "seems shinto" or "seems buddhist" about a piece of art or architecture, while they expect foreigners to just see it all as "Japanese" (or maybe, "well that one does look a little more Chinese than the other one, now that you mention it").

>>25329480>nice touristy areasNo such thing. If you can explore it alone in silence a random ruin of a Roman arena full of trash is more awe inspiring than any tourist attraction. >>25330107>Sanderson or Rowling's writing styleI'll praise Rowling enough to say it's unfair to put both those in the same category. I came to Harry Potter very late so I don't have any "read it as a child" bias here, the first few books were genuinely good. The magic parts are the worst part of the books, as far as aesthetics goes it's for kids, but definitely as good as the boarding school drama she's imitating.

But . . . showers of small frogs, tiny fish, and mysterious rains of pebbles sometimes fall from out of the skies. Here and there, with no possible explanation, men are burned to death inside their clothes. And once in a while, the orderly, immutable sequences of time itself are inexplicably shifter and altered. What is it called when youre nicely drunk and the coke and the weed is just right and you feel like youve owned the thread, forever? What is the name for that feeling?
I swear everything I like or enjoy is getting banned or intentionally made worse while everything I dislike gets shoved in my face intentionally to annoy me. In the latest trend in this pattern is anything I listen to during work to make it more tolerable, like horror stories or audio books, are not getting removed by youtube because their retarded bot moderation thinks all narrated content in AI spam. And since their moderation is fully automated once their bot makes up a ruling it will just endlessly double down no matter how much proof to the contrary. Basically very similar to what happened to ASMR adventure related videos, where their automated system banned most videos with a ASMR label unless the uploader was put on a white list. So I think fine, I will go back to listening to true crime on Spotify, only to realize they made spotify unusable due to the amount of ads even added to podcast mid sentence in the most tasteless ways possible because they want everyone to buy premium. So now I get to listen to corpo radio all shift and become more and more irritated with it.
Real nigga walking
>>25330488Stop shoving stuff into your mind. Just listen to whatever you are hearing at the time -traffic, wind, bells, whistles... just listen

>>25330512There is no ambience in my workplace as I already said. They play corpo radio all night every night during my shift. And no, I can't turn it off. I can ether have it blaring in my ears the whole time or play my own shit in headphones. It's even worse near Christmas. The same 100 or so Christmas songs on a loop for 2 months straight. And before you say something like ear plugs, for "safety" they aren't allowed, even though we have several people who are actually deaf and they don't complain about wearing headphones as long as you can hear the supervisors when they say something.
>>25329429It's fun to fantasize about murder, beating people, all types of violence, but at the end of the day you just can't do it. Sorry. I know, I like to fantasize about it too, it's fun, but you can't beat someone to death for no fucking reason, shoot someone, whatever. Just can't have a society if you're allowed to do that to somebody. Unless it's in self-defense, and then it has to be a you v them situation where they're at fault, and you have no other choice, and you absolutely can't be sadistic about it. The odds of that ever happening to you are basically zero if you don't purposefully try to cause them, and almost all of the time you can deescalate. This includes political violence too, btw. Yeah, yeah, I know, sorry. Also not allowed. Murder, torture, etc are forbidden in all situations. This has been a public service announcement to the world. May we all live in peace with each other someday
My robot gf summarized this thread in a song.https://suno.com/song/4507ff5a-2281-4171-9d68-823f82cacefe

>>25330531>Quit your jobWhat is it anyway? Are you supporting dependents ?
>>25330532I find recreational violence is a great outlet for violent urges. Martial arts, sparing, etc. where there is respect and control used because everyone is there to cultivate themselves is a wonderful and very pro-social thing. Same with contact sports like football and rugby. By having a prosocial outlet for what could be anti-social urges one is able to transmute what could be destructive to something that is creative.
>>25330532You´ve beat your own case there... I still agree

>>25330543>Quit your jobNo.>What is it anyway?Moving your mother. It's a team effort and requires a lot of heavy equipment but it has to get done somehow. > Are you supporting dependents ?No of your business, but regardless without a income I don't have a roof over my head or food in my belly.

>>25330546I agree. If you want to beat somebody, get into boxing or jiu-jitsu or whatever. Plenty of opportunities to do that. You're reminding me there's a recreational boxing league in my city that I should check out. Saw people lined out the door around the block outside this brick building downtown once for a match. Mostly black people and Hispanics, which I say with a dispassionate, sociological tone, not meant to convey any overtures liberal or conservative. Slightly more men than women, in the same dispassionate, sociological tone. People inside sounded excited>>25330548Whenever I watch a show/movie/read a book/etc where a main character's raped/murdered/crippled/etc somebody I'm always thinking "thank god that's not me." Maybe that's selfish of me, to think of how I would feel if I had just killed somebody rather than the person I hypothetically killed, but I just cannot imagine the guilt, paranoia, etc. Christ

>>25330560That image reminds me. Today at walmart I seen a really old woman, like at least in her late 70s, who was dressed exactly like Luffy, and I couldn't tell if it was just a funny coincidence or if she was intentionally cosplaying. Regardless it made me smile and made my shopping trip just slightly less draining.
Repeat after me, anon. Can you imagine an imaginary menagerie manager imagining managing an imaginary menagerie?
