Hit me with your in-universe replacement terms for (giant) death robots.

You know, shit like how Gundam's got Mobile Suits and Mobile Armors, Xabungle calls 'em Walker Machines, ZOE has Orbital Frames, VOTOMS has Armored Troopers, and so on.
Panzers, Wanzers, Jaegers, Titans, Exos, Frames, Vital Suits, Vertical Tanks, Knightmares, Zords, Mortar Headds, all of that shit. Existing names from whatever property, made-up stuff that sounds cool.

So basically series where the word "robot" practically doesn't exist? I have a few here:

Gunmen/Grapearls (Gurren Lagann)
Megadeus (Big O)
Flame Giants (Gaiking LODM)

Can't believe no one's mentioned these ones yet.
>>
As a SRW fan, I feel obligated to mention Personal Troopers and Armoured Modules.

I'm British, so I spell armour with a u. I'd rather not get into an argument over spelling.

Wouldn't surprise me if these are actual designations in Battletech lmao

I misspelled it.
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/AgroMech
And Militiamech is somewhat informal, generally it means a BM that is armored with commercial armor and armed with the weakest/cheapest shit you can find.

There is also http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Land_Air_%27Mech
Which are holdovers from the Unseen.

Interestingly perhaps, Mazinger was always referred to either as himself, like he was a person, or as a robot, with Aphrodite/Diana A and Boss Borot always being referred to akin to people as well. Mechanical Beasts were always just called Mechanical Beasts. I may be wrong as my knowledge only really comes from subtitles.
>>
>>16670040
What the heck? No, the name for robots in Mazinger is Zingers. To Kabuto, the Mazinger just happened to be his, so he called it "my" zinger, and Aphrodite/Boss Borot were Sayaka and Boss's Zingers.

A thing I made for a shitty homebrew.
Gehender Kampfpanzer (walking battle tank), abbreviated GK-[NUMBER].

>Kampfpanzer
As far as I can tell, this is wrong. The German word for tank is Panzerkampfwagen (something like "armored war vehicle"), but often just shortened to Panzer.

And this is just my opinion, but I'm not a fan of Gehender.

Maybe... Panzermensch? "Armored person."

LD.
Read like the 'eld' in 'weld.'

Short for Land-Destroyer, both describing a land-based weapon that operates in a niche akin to a naval destroyer, as well as a tongue in cheek description of what some models do to the terrain they operate on.

Started with gressorial self-propelled light artillery for operating in mountainous terrain ("a big ass goat with an even bigger ass gun"), primarily consists of unmanned "smart" vehicles not quite gigantic but certainly dwarfing the average human when standing erect.

Employing machine learning and other low level AI technologies to complete open ended mission orders, relieving command of a need to babysit the machine every step of the way, though some are still spooked by an LD's uncanny ability to solve problems in unexpected ways; ghost stories in the military inevitably feature tales of LDs possessed by the spirits of deceased commanders.

Nowhere near as humanlike as the Bolo of Laumer's fiction, LDs intimidate the average human by nature of a predictable unpredictability, no two LDs solving a given problem the same way. No one can truly say to understand what goes through the "mind" of an LD, not even their manufacturers.

Not enough mecha acronyms (mechacronyms?) make use of that word.
>>
>>16671851
Honestly it's kinda a pretentious word, something that'd only be used to make you seem so smart that you know a fancy word for "adapted for walking" that only academic circles would use with any semblance of regularity.

Kampfpanzer is still correct, in fact it became more common than panzerkampfwagen post war (mostly to refer to main battle tank).
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kampfpanzer
Example from German wikipedia.
>>
>>16672339
I'd guess it's because kp would more or less be "war tank," as opposed to pkw being more "armored war car" or something to that effect.

Robot was pretty common in the 1970s. Combattler, Mazinger, Daitsrn 3, etc all used robot.

None of the ones I listed were made in the 70's though. I was talking about the ones in which only the replacement terms existed.
