RideArmor best Armor.
>>
>Watching this right now
>Get to the episode where Stig meets his war hero who dies in battle after regaining his courage to fight
>The town he was protecting spends the night celebrating the war hero after the main cast has left
>Moves to outside the city and a fuck-huge Inbit force standing over the cliffside about to raze the town
>fade to black, straight to the credits
>Next episode doesn't follow up on this at all so we're just left to assume that town is just fucking dead

This show is wild so far.

Back again
>Episode where Stig Ray and MInt discover a Inbit lab growing dinosaurs to test evolution
>Episode where Ray and Mint ski into an Inbit base and blow up a huge brain
>Clip show episode that's nearly as wild as SDF Macross's with them fighting a dragon (That's probably gonna end up being plot relevant somehow)

This show man. I wish I had watched it earlier.

It's honestly great, loved the hijinks.
>>
>>22651609
Why was it so short lived then?
>>
>>22651654
It was planned for 39 episodes but canceled due to poor merchandise sales like a lot of shit in the 80s.
>>
>>22651654
I don't know, ask the producers? I'm just an audience member, pal.

Part three of the Robotech saga?

Tim Eldred scanned the old interview from ADV's DVD box set, which includes the very frank, "We used Macross as our model" quote. That much is clear just looking at the show, but also the fact that the transforming airplanes seem like they were shoehorned into a story about motorcycles.

Sometimes it feels almost like the show was made with prophetic knowledge of Robotech. Like yeah I know same people made it blah blah mechanical designers yada yada. But like they didn't even TRY to make the transforming jets different. Like they have Gerwalk mode for christ sakes.
>>

That's just true of a lot of post Macross shows. Technically it started when The Empire Strike's back was released and toymakers realized a chicken walker could sell (much to Kawamori and Miyatake's chagrin). They cut most of the AT-ST's part in the Hoth battle but the Kenner toy still made it out to market.

What no there's a world of difference between the AT ST inspiring others to use chicken walker designs in general, and the Legioss just being a Valkyrie

See that stuff about Mospeada's pre-production. They were told to add Macross-like jets to a story that didn't have them originally. Even Orguss has them and Southern Cross too. Guess what? They all shared a bunch of sponsors. Or for Mospeada's toy side, Gakken just wanted some of Macross's success. But the AT-ST made walkers more palatable to toymakers as Kawamori said all his proposals for a chicken walker only pre-Macross project were rejected before ESB made them seem viable.
>>
>>22651890
Eh even there I'd quibble that Orguss and Southern Cross still put in effort to make their transforming jets, while still obviously trying to cash in on Macross' popularity, visually unique and distinct from Macross, especially Southern Cross. In fact I wonder why they chose to use Southern Cross instead of Orguss for the third piece of the Robotech frankenstein. Since Orguss, while it would have still been the odd man out, still has a visual aesthetic and "robot silhouettes" far more closer to Macross and Mospeada than Southern Cross does.

Macross, Mospeada, and Southern Cross all involved Tatsunoko. Orguss did not. They would have had to go through TMS for that.

Big West produced all three Super Dimension shows and they were supposed to be similar. Its CEO even said Southern Cross was "the culmination of the Super Dimension themes." Which is people getting along and eventually fucking.

Thats the sum, whole and goal of all anime though. "And then, everybody fucked, the end"

I remember watching this on Cartoon Network in the early 2000s when they were doing that daylight mecha block or whatever. For the longest time, I thought it was some weird Robotech/Macross spin-off

Robotech was on Toonami in the late 90s, but they distinctly left out Mospeada/The Third Saga. It would always end with the last episode of Southern Cross before circling back to Macross. I wasn't aware of this show until reading about it in an issue of Anime Invasion/Insider.
