Bow the the king (honestly I feels like this game originally was made for the PS1 but got put on the PS2 later in the dev)
>>22656007
while I prefer the gameplay of 2, I vastly prefer the original tone and story of 1 (which also is still there in the OVA, anime and GBA spin off), which got lost due to the original director/writer having to leave (and only a very small part of his ZoE2 plan being reused) and the lack of Sunrise on the project.
ZoE2 did not used most of the background élements of the world to focus on a more hopeful and much more simple story to follow. Nohman was supposed originally to be a more nuanced character but this was thrown out of the window to have him just genocidal. (and he's a good character still, but I liked the original plan for him explored in ZoE1, Dolores and Fist of Mars better)

Pretty good but didn't hook me too much

Expect to actually learn only by trial and error.
...and then lose your squads and the base anyway even when you're doing things mostly right, because it's quite generatively random and is difficult

All the from-scratch mecha building is really sexy, so is XCOM-like base updating, it's done well

An anon recommended these games to me ages ago on here and I love them. Chaos Galaxy 2 is like the old Koei Romance of the Three Kingdoms games in space with mechs, and I can't wait for the next one (Chaos Front).
>>
>>22654770

>>
>>22656170
I remember there being an early/mid 2000s h-game similiar to this one, does anybody remember it too? you created a character and then could go on a raping spree across the galaxy while building your mech and army, it was very open ended a la Eragames
>>
>>22656333
7th Raizin? Or was it something from Alicesoft?
>>
>>22656165
I already played it but it fuck you up even on easy, on hard and maybe even normal it's a one shot, and he rush on you like a pitbull seeing a todler the nanosecond the boss fight start
>>
>>22656388
The first thing to do when the fight starts is walk forwards, then using hover, move yourself over to the edge of the ship in order to catch him. Pay attention to your radar to see exactly how he's moving. He will either aim straight for you or he will fly directly into the stage perimeter (you want the latter to occur). When he does this he will be locked into a turn, which is when he is vulnerable. He has stun lock like anyone else, and while he can recover a little more easily, this is the best non-SMA way to beat him. If you use the regular G3-Saviour and have Rapid Fire left over, you can throw it all at him using this strategy.
>>

If i'm not misremembering some guy started up a translation of the first one back in the early 10s, did that ever go anywhere? Can't find much info about it
>>
>>22657885
There was this HongFire translation back when that was still a thing. There were some more recent attempts on F95 and the like but apparently both games engines don't play nice with text extractors/injectors so there's one more thing in which it's similar to Gihren's greed.

I've always had a thing for Macross games. There's something about seeing missiles flying everywhere on the screen that’s so satisfying. The controls between ground and air are perfect, unlike Armored Core games, which are dogshit in comparison.

Recently bought FM 1&2 for the PS5. I don’t really care much for the “updated” graphics. I wish they would have tried to make it closer to the original and used 2d sprites. Overall it’s fun and scratches my itch for FM.

I recently played Gundam the Battle Master 1 and 2. Gundam the Battle Master is the original japanese version of the games that would be turned into the Gundam Battle Assault.

Extreme Versus is maybe the only actually competently made Gundam game ever but it's had decades of iteration to get to that point. Thank you, I'm really glad you like her! There were a lot of motivations for starting this project (had an idea boiling for a combat system from playing beat em ups / character action games / fighting games for years, wanted to make a great fantasy super robot game, etc.) but among them was definitely "I want to share my beloved oc waifu with the world"!

Actually, the game is loosely inspired by a cyberpunk TTRPG campaign I was in, that more or less got derailed into a super robot game by the end.

Gunhound is basically a spiritual sequel to the Assault Suit series (Assault Suit Valken, Assault Suit Leynos), so you might check out those. The gameplay is very similar (I also like Gigantic Army a lot, it's a great game if you're autistic and like score/speedrunning stages). Though perhaps outside of the arranges in the remake of Assault Suit Leynos, I don't think the soundtracks are as metal-ish.

It's a shmup, but high tempo metal + mecha brings MUSHA to mind as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MIqgHu3tsg

>You liked how your supply depot getting shot once made it impossible for you to reload your weapons for the mission?
Don't let the supply depot be attacked, you get plenty of warnings and a pretty generous read of the map whenever you pause and the radar is excellent.
>You liked getting an arm shot off by a random projectile and being unable to hit air targets?
The parts damage system is good, again, don't get hit, there's plenty of tells to know where enemies are, losing a limb isn't game over either.
>You liked the braindead wingmate AI that falls into pits and can't get out?
They're subpar, but there's ways to shepherd them without babysitting them, I've put in enough hours to work out how they function (issuing "stop" then "go" is often the neatest way to get them to go in a certain order).
>You liked the wildly irregular MS stats, like the Kampfer being on par with the Gundam in durability?
The stats seemed pretty close to what's shown elsewhere, also the Kampfer has an Armour status of 5 and the Gundam has an Armour status of 8, which is not an inconsiderable difference, among every other advantage the Gundam has.
>You liked the game running at 5 FPS?
Never bothered me, I play older disc-based games on real hardware regularly.
>You liked needing to beat a campaign multiple times just to unlock higher tiers of the same mobile suits?
Yes, I enjoyed the game.
>You liked the Federation campaign being easy mode?
Not really my problem, I played the Zeon campaign mostly. The EFF campaign is imbalanced due to the prevalence of beam weapons, but that's all.
>You liked the Zeon campaign being a ball breaker until you get the Gouf Custom?
I regularly do the Zeon campaign using only Zaku Is and Zaku Cannons.
>You liked 90% of the game's mobile suits being totally useless?
I've maximised every scenario I could use all of the suits in the game.
>>
Target in sight fucking sucked. 5 fps, 5 maps, 5 voice lines. If you wanted muh gritty clunky experience you were better off with zeonic front, which honestly looked almost as good, had way more content, actual story and characters, and didn't run like it was shitting itself to death.

It was the jump from sixth generation hardware to seventh generation hardware, it was a launch title game, and the PS3 in general had a very poor launch. If they held back six months to a year, they could have probably released the same game with less bugs and a more stable framerate, but as it stands I can still play it and enjoy it.

Considering Okawara was designed mecha for the G-Saviour game, J-Phoenix and a bunch of other Atelier Sai/Sunrise Interactive games (G-Breaker, Sunrise Eiyuutan etc.) at the same time I would not be surprised if he was just drawing around the clock and making sure he was just meeting the barest stipulations in terms of making a "customisable" machine (I've seen some of his turnarounds for J-Phoenix but a lot of his artwork from that period really blends into one).

>or is it more of a generic RPG with a few robots slapped in as enemies like Final Fantasy
"Few" might be a bit of an overstatement how little /m/ content these games have. They're fairly enjoyable if you're looking for a comfy jrpg ivoking the ps1 era aesthetic but if you're going in for the robottos, they just show up as bosses (I think maybe three times total across both games) and some plot related mobs in the second game. Didn't play the third one but given that it's supposed to be some sort of fever dream prequel kind of thing, I wouldn't expect something so obscure in universe to show up at all. Then there's Cold Steel quadrilogy(? I don't know how many of these games are by now.) where mecha is just a bait for those into it despite having practically no gameplay beyond being summoned in the battle by the characters like they're Final Fantasy summons. I don't know if the new game (where the mecha are supposedly space capable (according to my passing glance at the trailer) actually has proper mecha gameplay or is it just something Falcom uses to spice up their flavor of neverending jrpg story. If you're looking specifically for mecha jrpg, you'd be better of playing through the Xenosaga trilogy, as much of a slog to get through as it is.

>Xenoblade™ Chronicles™ X2
Oh, you

Steambot Chronicles, both PSP and PS2
Mega Man Legends games feel similar, even if the "mecha" is a human sized android
Then there are 3D JRPGs like White Knight Chronicles, and MMO like PSO2 (at whatever version it is nowadays)
And of course there are more classic JRPGs like MS Saga, Medarot, Custom Robo, or Zoids, or even Metal Max if you consider fictional custom tanks to be mecha enough; and the first Xeno- games, naturally
I'd also talk about Sand Land but I didn't touch them yet
By impression, Gihren's Greed games are technically open-world
The other typical options are modding stuff like Arma or GTA Fallout 4, or hyperindie things like Gearhead, or engineering sandbox games where you could craft/download mecha

I'm not very well aware of all the Japanese-only mecha games, there are probably some fine open-world ones that only few remember

I've been playing Afraid Gear Another.
Apparently I missed its prequel, but that's okay, I can start back with it, because nearly everything in season 2 of year 2 is kicking my ass with me dealing up to 1.2k damage and everything giving me up to 4k damage per attack, despite me reading and figuring out how generator, material, coating, weapon tuning and power stat management work.
Most of my victories is from stripping my mecha down to one weapon and having my opponent run out of energy, if the battle's timer is long enough
>>
>>22716175

>no voice acting
I've never understood this gripe. I read faster than the lines are usually spoken. If the dialogue's just text boxes (instead of fully choreographed cutscenes), I just skip it as I go and that makes the half spoken sentences quickly become irritating. Hearing the same ~5 voices per language is getting really old really fast too, doubly so if they're chosen poorly. I'd take the good ol' rpg text sounds or some Okami-esque gibberish over that any chance I'd have. Spoken dialogue only really has place in action games where the player may simply not have enough time to focus on reading text during gameplay but even then it should be kept short and to the point.

There is mindset of people I've met IRL and online - that EVERYTHING must be voiced.
Their primary argument is that "it's 2024 already, get with the times".
I'm not kidding. Shit sucks.

People want EVERYTHING to be crammed at highest values in games regardless of will it fit or will it even makes things better. And will still complain about price.
>>
>>22716789
It's like they don't understand voice acting requires time and money because they have neither themselves. :^)
>>

Sadly I bet their counterargument will be "just use AI for voices then"

Is Battletech any good?
>>

>Is Battletech any good?
The videogame of the same name from semi-recent years? It's trash, not even worth pirating. As a die hard tabletop BT player it was insulting to play.
>>
>>22716942
I played it a bit, kinda dunno.
I'm too used to SRPG and don't know anything about battletech.
So feedback from attacking and getting hits felt really unclear - when I do damage or not or how much.
I heard it's great adaptation of tabletop rules, but I guess it's not as unified opinion considering anon above

>As a die hard tabletop BT player it was insulting to play.
Elaborate.
>>
>>22717319
The gameplay is basically BT rules lite, to an offensive level. The writing is uninspired, the main campaign story incredibly boring and honestly feels forced. The game effectively devolves into hoping it does not crash, playing a while and unlocking enough Assault Mechs to steamroll the enemy without fear of retaliation.

Would you guys recommend MechWarrior 5? It's weirdly gone under the radar for me, if it wasn't recommended by Steam I wouldn't have known it existed
>>
>>22718633
afaik base game is basically all randomly generated missions
if you want actual singleplayer campaign with designed missions you'll have to shill out for new expansion
>>
>>22718643
Fuck that's a lot of dlc
>>
>>22718652
my bad, I know little about game, actually designed missions is other standalone release
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2000890/MechWarrior_5_Clans/
so dunno what base mw5 dlc are
>>
>>22694324
Based. Some anon recommended it, it's what I wanted Muv-luv to be: just shooting bugs and aliens in mechs.
>>
>>22718652
>>22718661
The DLC have premade levels as well, although in saying that the base game does have a campaign but its missions are not as good as the dlc.
If you do buy the game I would buy the dlc in release order since you have to get to you in game year that the missions take place to start the dlc campaigns.

Assault Suits Valken (I refuse to refer to it as "Cybernator"...*vomit*) on the SNES also is great. LOVE the design of the ASS-117 Assault Suit.

I remember one really obscure mech game where virtually everything is done without any user assistance and its like QWOP. Except for mech fighting.

I kind of miss it and it made me appreciate how skilled you'd have to actually be as a mech pilot.
