Why did people find this so confusing? It was fast paced, but I could follow the events watching it each week when it originally aired.
>>
>>22676749
Tomino just don’t work within the limitations of a 26 episode run. Brain Powerd, King Gainer, G-Reco. All of them felt underdeveloped and suddenly rushes into a conclusion near the end. Way too many characters and way too much plot for such a short run. All of his year long anime are excellent, though. But he can’t do that anymore. No one can.
>>
>>22676749
Because you actually have to pay some amount of attention and people these days would rather rush through shows while looking at their phones.

I disagree. I find his material on 26 episodes and movie formats better. While Turn A is a very good show, I just prefer King Gainer or G-Reco more.
>>
I never found the literal events happening in a given episode to be confusing, but I did at times feel a bit lost in terms of the factions and motivations beyond the immediate conflict.

I do get the impression that was what Tomino was going for. Some teen drafted into a war is going to be more or less brainwashed with what they've been taught their whole life, and you're going to constantly get unreliable information from basically everyone you're speaking to. Tomino is uninterested in giving trite, easy answers to the next generation as he himself moves into his twilight years. I like G-Reco a lot for that, honestly.

This is a weird comparison but I got somewhat similar vibes from The Boy and the Heron. So much of it feels like old men trying hard to sort through their complicated thoughts on life and what the youth should do to improve the world, but simultaneously understanding that at the end of the day they're also just one man themselves and they don't want to be some stereotypical old man yelling at clouds telling you exactly what you should be doing.
>>
>>22677737
To be confusing was sort of the point. You are meant to be lost in what's happening with all the factions vying for control of whatever but it's ultimately not a conflict over that. The point was, oddly enough, to cut through the bullshit and start asking questions. That's why Aida decided to get everyone's ass up to the moon and eventually Venus. It's not a story about Group A fighting Groups B and C.
>>
>>22676749
I really liked the first four movies but the last one was kind of a letdown, as if everyone involved ran out of new ideas/clever jokes/etc. and just wanted to wrap the story up as quickly as possible.
Captain Mask trying to kill Bellri because he believes the kid will grow up into a tyrant is a neat concept and a fitting climax, it just doesn't sit right as the primary personal conflict of the big final battle.

It's also funny how the Indian girl goes from a giggling airhead who stares at her goldfish all day and clings to G-Self as if it were her mother, to the blandest character in the entire series.

I have not seen the TV series, though considering the total runtime of the films I imagine the cuts were fairly minimal compared to other compilation films.

The why is the easiest part to get. Everyone's motivations are fairly clear. The problem is that there's a lot of WHYS piled on top of each other but even that's immaterial to the larger point of everyone rushing to fuck with shit they don't understand.

>>
>>22678177
Literally everyone related to the any of the armies in the chart you posted are retarded. They're playing war with weapons they don't even know how to use fully. There's a dialogue early on where the engineers on the megafauna admit they don't know a lot of the functions of it. This later leads to Bellri using a weapon that erases people from reality all because the retards that built the perfect pack didn't know photon torpedoes did that. All you need to do is have fun with the hippie road trip Aida is leading.

I like that Cumpa died the way he did. It’s like Tomino’s last fuck you to warmongers. At least Paptimus can say he was so evil a crazy autistic kid rammed his spaceship into him, nobody was even trying to kill Cumpa.
>>
>>22681855
>It’s like Tomino’s last fuck you to warmongers
There was also Klim running over his dad with the Crescent Ship for trying to continue the war with him as a martyr. Can really tell Tomino just wanted a wish fulfillment "I wish we could just run over all these warmonger politicians".

>Why did people find this so confusing?

Besides a buncha shit happening from all angels and groups being introduced left and right, the plot literally goes nowhere in the end. Stuff just "happens".

Trust me, I was paying rapt attention the whole time, hoping this shit would solidify into something coherent. My Copium was strong. Maybe if he had gotten 50 eps to work with, it woulda came out better. The world building, characters, and animation were all spot on, however.

I think it was coherent enough. G-Reco is about Aida's journey in learning the truths of the world by going out and witnessing everything first hand. This is a message Tomino gives in a whole bunch of works.

Here was what I didn't get when I watched it in 2015
>Bellri is taken captive by pirates, who let him walk freely and who let him pilot the G-Self; Bellri makes no effort to escape
>Bellri kills his instructor and knows this but doesn't really care
>Mask is friends with Bellri then is consumed by irrational hatred for him, then gets over it
>some weird mutation is going around Venus Globe and so they want to return to Earth?
Okay that last one makes sense, it's just stupid.
>>
>>22690672
Mask gets a complex about his Kuntalla heritage and goes retarded for a while over it but he eventually gets talked down out of it because literally everyone he cares about looks up to him and do not care he is a Kuntalla. He just channeled that complex at Bellri and once he let it go there was no reason to keep going after Bellri.

Bellri is just an extroverted sociopath.
>>
>>22690672
>Bellri is taken captive by pirates, who let him walk freely and who let him pilot the G-Self
The pirates are relatively laid-back overall, but their major insurance is the fact that they have Noredo and Raraiya. Even not locking the two up, they are onboard the ship and Bellri cannot abandon them or do anything to risk their lives. They also let him pilot the G-Self because only he (and Raraiya and Aida) can, so they want more testing and data on it.
>Bellri makes no effort to escape
He does attempt an escape, when the Megafauna briefly goes into space. He gets Noredo and Raraiya to hide in one of the shuttles, takes some photos of the Ameria fleet, and then plans to grab them and run away, but is interrupted when Dellensen appears and tries to kill him.
>Bellri kills his instructor and knows this but doesn't really care
Granted he doesn't dwell on it for multiple episodes, but he is pretty obviously depressed over the fact after it happens, and the argument could be made that it adds to his distrust towards the Army. The movie even added additional scenes of Bellri throwing up after the fight, and later on Kerbes bringing it up to Bellri directly and him getting distraught over it.
>Mask is friends with Bellri then is consumed by irrational hatred for him, then gets over it
Mask sees himself as a good person fighting for his people, and, despite Bellri being his friend, it is also Bellri who continuously defeats him and prevents him from actually getting any achievements. This just compounds as Bellri gets stronger and stronger. When the Army finally gets disbanded, he doesn't have anything to channel his obsessiveness anymore.
>>
Mask hates Belleri being a privileged rich kid. He calls him gradeskipper.
>>
>>22690672
>>Bellri is taken captive by pirates, who let him walk freely and who let him pilot the G-Self; Bellri makes no effort to escape
Bellri states he's trying to get a read on the pirates and what they want. They also have Nug "hostage" and he wants to bone Aida while feeling guilty about killing Cahill.

>>Bellri kills his instructor and knows this but doesn't really care
He very much cares.

>>Mask is friends with Bellri then is consumed by irrational hatred for him, then gets over it
He's jealous and they really weren't super good friends to start with. Mask just really tried to keep up the good senpai expectations.

>>some weird mutation is going around Venus Globe and so they want to return to Earth?
Yeah it's called living for generations in the deadliest most inhospitable environment ever. People aren't built to live in space. Char.
>>

Yes. Bellri was completely a Rayhunton. Aida was his 100 percent blood related older sister. They came out of the same vagina and were seeded by the same cock and balls. Their relation is without question wholly and completely familial. And any relation beyond that is taboo.
