Another year is coming to an end and this one was quite filled with new shows and events within the /m/echa sphere. Off the top of my head, Gundam had a reaally eventful year, with three big releases, SEED Freedom, Silver Phantom and Requien for Vengeance, also the Furuya scandal. Bravern came out almost completely under the radar and took everyone by surprise from the first episode onwards, spawning a huge series of merchandise and fujo fanart. Grendizer U happened. Anything I'm missing?
There were some passings, Taiki Matsuno, Atsuko Tanaka, Toshinari Yamashita, Nobuyo Oyama, Akira Toriyama and many others I'm probably forgetting. RIP.
A lot of announcements for coming shows and movies like GITS, Patlabor, Virgin Punk, Anno's Yamato, A new Koike Lupin, more Eva? maybe, Aquarion, etc.
How do you guys look back on this year? Was it a good year? Was it a bad year? Do you think the next one will be better? How are those new toku shows? Anything you are looking forward to in the next year? Share your thoughts here.

Transformers One had a middling reception at the box office, plus there was the 40th anniversary music video.
As far as content goes, it started good, but petered out. Could have been worse.

I haven't seen One yet but here's hoping Trigger does the needful and announces a Transformers anime already. And not a movie or a short series, a 26 episode show from the get go.

There was that one anime original mecha show advertising for that mobile game. I don't even remember the name, I don't think anybody watched it or liked it. It did get model kits though.

>How are those new toku shows?
Gotchard was not very good, definitely my least favorite Kamen Rider, but I haven't seen any other notorious ones yet (Wizard, Ghost, Revice)
Loving Gavv so far, seems like most everyone else is too
King-Ohger was a bit too ambitious probably, but people definitely enjoyed it, I have a lot of respect for it for trying something so out there. Definitely is gonna be fondly remembered.
I'm including Blazar for symmetry but I really liked it a lot, some low points but I thought it kept the themes pretty consistent and was all around just super good.
Arc has been decent so far, weird situation where there are a lot of stellar episodes but the central "plot" is very whatever, plus the crossover totally dropped the ball.
Wingman has been pretty cool so far, very stylish and clearly everybody involved is loving working on it.
Haven't seen Shin Dogengers yet because it's not subbed yet.

I think that's most of the Toku this year? I'm sure I missed a lot of smaller projects or what have you, but this is at least what I've seen. All in all I'd call it a good year, I didn't hate Gotchard like some anons so it wasn't that bad for me, but if you hated Gotchard im sure the Boonboomger+Gotchard SHT era was hell on Earth.

animated releases were kinda ass but hey there's some great manga

You better not be talking about those shitty isekai-with-mechs.

We had a great year this year. SEED Freedom is probably one of the best Gundam movies made, and its Gunpla and designs were excellent. Requiem for Vengeance ended up surprisingly good -- probably the best OYW side story after Igloo -- and makes me feel really good about the possibility of more Western Gundam. For manga, the F90 story is continuing, and we got a new Astray, which are both great.
For kids' stuff, we got Baan Gaan as a web novel so that the whole world can finally hear the Saint of Braves' message. Sworgrader has been pulling out deep-cut crossovers like crazy (including Photogrizer, Daiyuusha, and Layzelber). The new Shinkalion is very good; it has both cool gimmicks (support vehicles that can become armour) and a cool story (Island of Misfit Toys with a vengeance, which even applies to the enemy pilots). Finally, Transformers One is probably the best Transformers movie ever made, even if it wasn't profitable.
For toku, Boonboomger is impressive -- the robot, suits, and support vehicles are all really cool, and the ongoing story is pretty interesting and serious as well. I'm not into Rider, but it seems Gavv is a nice return to classic Rider.
For not-so-great stuff, Bravern and Grendizer U both failed to land the ending -- Bravern's ending was rushed and ended up asking more questions than it answered, while Grendizer U's ending felt maliciously incompetent (Seriously? No Mazinger/Grendizer teamup?) Also Ultraman Arc seems to be bereft of passion and phoned-in, indicating the franchise probably needs to go on a break again.
The future of mecha is very bright. That new Aquarion show seems interesting, SEED is going to continue as long as Fukuda has ideas, Keroro is returning, mainline SRW is returning sometime in 2025, and we're getting a new Yamato movie separated from the current reboot continuity, which is nice.

>Bravern's ending was rushed and ended up asking more questions than it answered
how the fuck is it rushed? the entire second half was in 5th gear and it ends in a logical conclusion for a short lived but densely packed show
>>
>>22962089
nta I agree with people who wished that we had one more episode so they could split ep 12 in two parts but wouldn't say it's rushed, reading what the production said it's what they wanted. what they wished was more time for filler/sol like episodes for the fanservices lol but flies above me how ending a original show with "more questions" is a bad thing when clearly they are trying do something than just a "seasonal original anime" with the side content they produced so far

>How do you guys look back on this year?
The SEED movie was merely okay, and that's it. Otherwise, another dead year for mecha. I don't watch these plasticky new shows or 3D CGI stuff or the gazillionith UC spinoff. The announcement of a new Full Metal Panic show was nice, but it seems that it will not be focused on mecha like the original series, and the original still has yet to be finished. At least the Soldats are back in the new Trails games.
>>
>the only mecha series I've watched in 2024 is Requiem for Vengeance
Apparently I'm just not as into anime as I was in high school. Hell I was hyped for Gridman Universe and I still haven't watched that. My backlog remains perpetually unfinished.

>>22962089
They burned through most of the Deathdrives in a couple of episodes, and we still know next-to-nothing about them. Furthermore, we didn't get enough cool Bravern fights -- most of the time he won with his ridiculously overpowered weapons, and while I like that, you can't just use powerful weapons to shove the fights out of the way like that. Divine Wars is what I would have preferred Bravern be like, but alas. That said, it was fun posting about it here when it was on and keeping up with all the fanart and crazy twists -- it's the closest thing to something like Valvrave or Aquarion Evol this board has had in years, but everyone liked it.
>>
>>22964636
>we still know next-to-nothing about them
Yes they should have made a Gasaraki and have the final episode a shitty expodump about completely irrelevant lore factoids instead of focusing on what made the show good.

Why not? Or do you want an actual VN instead of crumbs?

Looking back I haven't seen a single new show all year. I've noticed my interest in anime has kind of been fading as I've gotten older. I don't know if it's the quality of anime overall dropping or my tastes changing or a combination of both, but it feels like less and less every year calls to me and says "I need to watch this." The most recent series that really grabbed me to any degree was Pluto.

Sauce on the ELF? I'm gonna need a QRD on her ASAP!

I'm a tourist from /a/. You had three anime coming out (two of which were shit, I didn't watch bravern) some westoid shit and some vr shit and this counts as eventful? Is the mecha genre really that dead?

Looks like Semiramis from fate/apocrypha. She's not an elf

Braven and Syndual pt 2 was good to me. Grendizer U was alright. Also enjoyed the transformers 30th anim but didn't see One. Want to get MW5 Clans and Flamefrit too.
All in all not the worst, but am looking forward to '25 for more mecha games like gravnir and scramble vice.

She is, but her mother is some kind of mermaid. Idk man I'm not an expert on Syrian mythology
