-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:

-=GIRLPLA GROUPBUILD=-

Build a kit featuring any brand of Girlpla, including but not limited to:
>Frame Arms Girl
>Megami Device
>30 Minute Sisters/Missions/Etc.
>Figure-Rise Standard
>Megalomaria
Additionally, any "Feminine" mechs like the Nobel Gundam or Valsione are fair game as well. What you do with your build in terms of theming is up to you so long as your base is "Feminine".

Send a description along with both WIP and Finished images of your build to gunplaplamo@gmail.com

Anyone knows if they released more info on that Dolls nest Girlpla? Its the one thing i am looking fowards to this year. Fun game, sequel/dlc when nitroplus?
>>
>>23875647
haven't heard about it, what plamo brand is on it?
game was fun but i was only able to finish the sand world, the other ones had seriously obnoxious bosses
>>
>>23875654
Went searching for the announcement, Plamatea from goodsmile apparently. Also go melee, big boy damage and zipping around while swinging a huge steamsword or slamming the potato god on some cute mecha musume never gets old
>>
>>23875647
It sold quite well enough to justify sequel but Nitro being Nitro, they are most likely to contemplate it for some time before giving up. They did added hard mode with one of later patches and they recognized quite nice numbers of copies sold, however.

No new info on "nameless" Doll plamo beyond her "gray" prototype, sadly.
>>
>>23875647
The Mechasmile Impact stream is in a week and a half, it might pop up with more details there.

>>23875642
Holding out for a new SRWOG kit.
>>
>>23875659
Melee is overrated, even Sabi boosting around takes too much effort than what is it worth. Better focusing on SMGs and assault rifles, there is even a rifle that shoot grenades, there are also "boss killer" missiles (forgot the name) with huge damage, low speed but VERY good tracking that stays in air almost forever so target won't just run away easily.
>>
>>23875663
I'm hoping for HG Granzon but we all know what it would end up as if it ever gets a model kit.

Primers usually have some additive that makes them opaque so the plastic color underneath won't show
>>
>>23875714

>>
>>23875707
Different departments want to do different stuff, and HG have done plenty of big names like Cybuster, Alteisen and the Huckies alongside the nicher stuff, it's a good balance. The way the SMP team functions allows them to do these bigger, limited runs for stuff that wouldn't be ideal at mass retail or be easily re-printed down the line too, so for more technical designs they make a more sense.
>>
>>23875701
Primer has better adhesion and following paint layers will stick to it better than they would to paint

>>
>>23875719
This guy's get it. It also work both ways - primer also attach better to plastic surface. This is also why many people tend to use lacquer primers even if they paint with acrylics - lacquer will "dig into" plastic due to how aggressive it is, making it less likely to chip.

It's not as bad as everyone says. The biggest issue it has is the eye searing molded colors. The color correction stickers suck too but they aren't even needed if you're following the original art and it's really easy to paint in if you want the red.
>>

At that scale, the best you can do is try to get some black wash into the crevices where the eyes and mouth are. That's the most anyone should be expected to try and do with these things.
>>
>>23875790
For fine details I usually use the tip of a knife or a sewing needle with some paint on it. For the red parts on the hexa, I used a fountain pen. I've just had so much better paint results once it occurred to me i can apply paint with whatever I want.

>>
>>23875635
>>
>>23876058
Same reason you want to paint gold over a black base. Or yellow over a pink one. The color of your base will impact the tone of the color you put on top. Black and Grey will neutralize the color of the plastic so your white finishing surfacer or paint will actually look white.

I'm not fully convinced about the longevity of the glue strip thing that's used to attach the armor so I put magnets in all the parts that use them. If I get a 3.0 at some point I'll match the magnets in it and try to make the armor compatible with both.
Probably gonna start painting it tomorrow but I'm still undecided on the color scheme. I'm currently considering the original green, thunderbolt blue or rx-78-2 tricolor but any other ideas would also be welcome.

if the handle is wide enough I'd just drill a hole through it and put the magnet inside. Otherwise just get a thin rectangular one and glue it to the side of the handle. Palms usually have enough space to insert a magnet without much issue.

But, but, /gpg/ assured me that bootlegs were just as good as the genuine article, if not better! Was I lied to???
>>
>>
>>23876676
No. I leave seam lines intact because I never know if a problem might arise internally and I have to disassemble the part to fix it. Cementing seam lines denies me the ability to do that.
>>
>>23876679
it's all good when fully painted.
>>
Is the reason why Bandai charges a lot for SMP is because of the molds? If a product is unsuccessful, they just repurpose the molds and eliminate any chance of reprints?
>>
>>23876679
Nobody ever said that. Plenty of people have said that bootlegs need fixing, with some needing more fixing than others. That and you're expected to paint.

When people say chink plamo are as good as nip plamo, they're talking about the OCs, notably their higher end ones. I've built both bootlegs and their OCs. The bootlegs are great for mucking around and painting practices. I didn't buy those early pre-88xx dabans since I've heard they're really bad, but the newer dabans and stuff like JMS/ Star, it's minor fixes like slight fitting issues needing cement to make the parts close without gaps or there being some swirls on the plastic, which again not an issue since I was gonna paint them anyway.

As for their OCs, they are indeed good. I snapbuild them since they're already very detailed, properly part and color separated. The ones with gold parts also look good as they are so I don't need to paint them like I did with say, the gold parts on some RG bandai.

Basically, if you're a snapfag, you should avoid bootlegs and stick to bandai. But if you're planning to delve somewhat deeper into the hobby, bootlegs are a good cheap way to gain experience.
>>
>>23876691
Oh but the one thing that does put bootlegs ahead of bandai is that water decal is included regardless of the kit. Doesn't matter if it's the bootleg of a retail HG/RG, they'll include stickers like the bandai version as well as water decal which bandai sells separately.
>>
>>23876585
Tallgeese 2 has a different head entirely, what are you on about?

I really hope the Zaku 1 and its variants get reprints though, those are sorely needed.

This sounds absurd on its face, but the Bandai MG is already strangely bad with extreme amounts of flash and pooling (?), janky transformation, and heavy extremities on top of being generally fragile.
The bootleg at least has the advantage of being a copy of the MGEX, which is effectively a version of the Unicorn with the fundamental design issues worked out.
So both Unicorns have shit plastic, but one just has a better design at more or less the same pricepoint.

I've considered it but I'm not sure what color to go with for the outer fag armor. The G3 color scheme also changes with every rendition and the usual one (white with fairly saturated lavender) wouldn't be great for using the white decals the kit has.
>>23876215
Actually a pretty good idea though doing the orange markings on everything seems like a bit of a pain in the ass. I do have a pretty close match for the brown though so maybe worth considering too.

Give some thought to making the armor on the regular tri-color RX-78 blue. Think forever gundam.

I just finished Canon's Mark XIII. Did as much detailing as I could and it came out pretty well.

I'm building the 1/1500 Nadesico next.

Upon further consideration I have even more to consider and am less decided once again. The FSD option >>23876215 suggested actually looks really good.
>>23877223
It does look a bit more interesting with the blue. I copied Katoki's FAG 78-2 color scheme with the white but it's a bit plain on my lineart edit.
>>
>>23877218
I'm partial to the TB colors just because I painted my TB FAG in the regular FAG colors. but I'm also a fan of type B just because it's not a style I see very often

Hmm somehow my clear coat melted this purple despite it drying for over a day. The other purple and black were fine. Guess I'm redoing these tomorrow after this layer dries...

This is what I imagined as FA-G3
>>
>>23877284
Yeah I initially put the outer armor in the base offwhite as well but I figured at that point I might as well go ahead and do the type B since it already has a G3 on the inside and outer armor of the same color (before adding the blue)

I might try to build a replacement from cutting up the E5 piece

How do I get these pieces to stick on the HG Aerial? They keep popping off when I move the arms.
>>
>>23877326
Do you have the sides of the chest plugged in properly? These shouldn't be affected by the shoulder joint unless you're hamhanding the kit and pulling the chest apart.

Finally got off my ass and made a spread sheet of the backlog. 174 HG, 35 RG, and 98 MG kits. I've gone beyond micro plastic lads, I'm on that macro plastic nutsack.

Are GX113 and GX114 supposed to look the same just with the UC cutting? I'm seeing a bit of a difference while these parts are drying after I ran out of GX113.

I think I need to stop browsing this place. Every time I'm thinking of getting a new kit and worry that I might be buying too much stuff, I'll then think, 'nah, I've seen anons here with an entire cupboard/ closet lined with boxes, so I'm still in the clear'.

If someone wanted to create a mass produced nu gundam incom unit from the gundam Alyzeus what would they need for the backpack? Or would it just be easier to use the base hg nu?

Good luck! Also if you are looking for easy stick holders, just buy cardboard cat scratchers. They basically are what you are building there, but are cheap because they are consumables.
