So Arroyo is definitely leaning further into his stargazer/fortune telling teachings if the party keeps him around.

Arroyo's oldest brother would've been about twenty at the time of the parents' disappearance, two older sisters, then Arroyo (14 at the time), a younger brother, two sisters again, two little brothers. They got on pretty well, lol. I'm thinking of making Arroyo's first younger sister his twin; they're supposed to be really close anyway and it helps the timeline be a little less... claustrophobic. Part of that is them being remote homesteaders so more kids = good but it occurred to me that I'd never played a character with a big family before so I decided to just roll with it to its extreme. It's worked out to be plenty of side quest material as well if the party decides to help him so it's been a convenient little springboard for ideas trying to figure out what everyone has gotten up to. Gameplay wise he's going to start off as a pretty normal friendly NPC but he also has some stuff that will alert the party during night ambushes, has a chance to predict the encounter for the day (or at least a hint), and is generically useful in combat. One hidden quirk is that he'll be notably higher level than the party but dragged down with loads of debuffs, that they'll be able to cure him of over time so he can keep up with them. Or at least that's the plan. We'll see if that winds up being too intrusive. Hopefully not. I hope you get a chance to play in an FoE TTRPG someday anon. It's quite a bit of fun imo, and the setting is ripe for this sort of game. If all else fails, have you ever entertained the idea of running one yourself? It's... a lot. Especially if you're like me and have eyes bigger than your stomach. But it's a lot of fun really.

Made it through chapter 57. The Society arc was really good, even with the Goddess/Lacunae shit repeatedly derailing it. Project Horizons is definitely worth reading past chapter 33, even if the good parts are always bookended by Somber's bullshit.Pretty burned out on FoE but I might finish book 4 before stopping. I definitely want to bounce before the anime nonsense ramps up and everypony dies.

He starts out with some well defined traits and a sympathetic backstory, and turns out to be pretty good in combat. And as a result he becomes self-confident and even a little playful, but also gains a strong moral perspective on justice and slavery which comes out most clearly in the Society chapters. Welp, finished Book 4. Thunderhead arc kinda sucked. Some of the Enclave worldbuilding was good but the plot felt convoluted and bloated. Chapter 62 was also ridiculously over-the-top, and I know it's only gonna get worse. The reveal of Lighthooves being another angsty self-hating idiot pony was awful. Although I do applaud Somber's editors for Books 3 and 4. The amount of Blackjack suffering was relatively light compared to the insanity of chapter 33. They even walked back her killing Boing and the entirety of Stable 99, which was nice. The only important character who died was Lacunae, but she was tainted by Psalm so who cares.Maybe I'll finish PH later, but for now I'm thoroughly burnt out on this story.

I did finally empress in one of the players that running a coup on the gang holding them would be a bad idea when the gang's second in command, a unicorn with a talent for electrical magic, erased several very large mutants from existence with a high powered lightning spell. That was fun. The party's home base got 'attacked' by a bunch of trogs that had been flushed out by a big inter-gang fight north of them, so they were just sorta spilling over the compound wall. Wasn't anything too complicated: just a huge brawl with the party stomping faces while I rolled some dice to see how much their superiors got to show off. I was a little worried it'd be a slog, but the party seems to have had a good time stomping heads. When the campaign first started three trogs was a boss fight in itself and during this fight they must have killed almost two dozen between them. Next time I shove them into a large fight I'll need to stat out a proper Troop unit for them.
