It's now 10 years Season 5 ended! Starlight Glimmer is redeemed and joins the Mane 6 from here on out. There's going to be a stream this Sunday (30/11/2015) at 12:30PM EST (5:30PM UTC) to air the finale, plus some Season 5 finale trailers/teasers. Feel free to throw in some videos related to the episode afterwards or queue some glimmyLink to stream: https://cytu dot be/r/ponykinoCountdown: https://www.tickcounter.com/countdown/8775291/season-5-finale-stream/mlp/ reaction: https://desuarchive.org/mlp/chunk/25573906/Discuss the finale here in the meantime or share art/videos/your fanfic (the episode is already a fanfic). I don't think anyone was expecting half the stuff like apocalypse dash in there, and the ending was pretty divisive, or at least how fast it happened. It's worth going through the /mlp/ thread to get a sense of that.
Best finale in the show, absolute cinema.
This is one of my favorite moments, the magic of friendship finally being used to turn an enemy into a friend, the whole ending is pure snowpity. I always loved how her reformation was handled, one-shot friendship lasers is just too cheesy and lazy and it robs the victim of any decent development.
Luna, Starlight, and Trixie did nothing wrong.Nightmares just want to be loved.
>>42836396Please take me to the NNM timeline, I'll serve her for eternity.
>>42836381>standing on cloud>feels bad for her>literal snowpity
>>42836349I agree
>>42836381Glimmer's redemption felt a lot better than any of the others in the show. She's been compared to Sunset a lot, but there's one key difference that makes or breaks it.Sunset changed after she lost.Starlight changed before she won.
I love Glimmy
I hate Glimmy
>>42836510Cringe>>42836533Based
>>42836265Shit, has it been 10 years already? S5 finale was the first time I watched an episode premiere on some stream. Never missed a premiere from then on. Thus started probably the best chapter of my life, a few precious years of being absolutely stunned by an avalanche of pony content, new and old. Don't get me wrong, pony is still in my heart and it's not going away, but those early days when everything was new were absolutely amazing.I will gladly join in and attempt to remember how it felt.
>>42836707Do suggest videos to queue! Especially anything that was new to you around that time. I've been chasing that feel for a while.
>>42836349>Haber
>>42836381>the magic of friendship finally being used to turn an enemy into a friendYes, because she's too powerful to be defeated otherwise. Keep eating your haberslop if you want, but I have standards.
>>42836349>>42836381If not for Glimmy's retarded backstory I'm sure the finale would be far more popular. Even without the backstory I probably wouldn't call it the best, but I do enjoy it and I very much agree with the take on Twilight convincing Starlight to stop instead of defeating her by force being great.>>42837342Prior villains were also to powerful to be defeated by anything but friendship lasers, how is this even an argument? It was great that for once it wasn't just a deus ex machina. I enjoy a good rainbow blasting as well but it's nice to have variety. Also Twi would've outlasted her eventually, trust
>>42837463I don't get the autism over her backstory, it's still miles better than Luna turning evil over ponies going to sleep. Starlight is basically a more grounded, fleshed out, and better written Luna. I like it, it's not the best in all of fiction, but for FiM and the themes the show represents it's perfect.
>>42837505Just write a letter lolmao. Luna at least has someone to actually be jealous of for outshining her.
>>42837512That's the thing, Sunburst ghosted her. Starlight was jealous too because of Sunburst outshining her. Luna and Celestia were still equals while Sunburst at that moment showed enough talent to be accepted to a good school. So even in terms of jealousy which was Luna's sole motivation Starlight was hurt by jealousy more than Luna was.
This one needs to be in the queuehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDkazAHrYto>>42837528>Sunburst ghosted herheadcanon, as if we know if he was the same back then.>Starlight was jealous too because of Sunburst outshining her.wat
>>42837724Not a headcanon, it's clearly implied.Sunburst went to the best school to become a great wizard while Starlight was left behind as a worthless blank flank. Pretty simple. She came to develop her ideology when growing up due to feelings such as this.
Any other Anons watched Sonic Prime and thought of the S5 finale? As ruined as that show got down the line, the first and second timelines match up closely in each. Also SonicDash fags kys
>>42837793It's implied that he's a nerd who doesn't want to read his mom's annoying letters.>She came to develop her ideology when growing up due to feelings such as thisNone of those are shown to be jealousy though, abandonment and the lot sure but at no point does she want his place, she wishes for his place to not have changed. It's completely different.
>>42838188It implies a nerd who doesn't read any letters because he's too absorbed in his own interests.People are complex, they can feel more than one thing at a time. Abandonment, jealousy, and inferiority are all part of the equation. It's not that she wants Sunburst's place, it's that if she had been more talented she would have been accepted too and kept her friendship with Sunburst, if they had been equal they'd still be together. It's why her misguided ideology preaches about how ponies being more special than the other causes disarray.
>>42838332Please be patient, twibros relate to Twilight for a reason.
>>42838332>It implies a nerd who doesn't read any letters because he's too absorbed in his own interests. The postpony says the letter's from Sire's Hollow though, so he'd know it's from his mom. And besides not knowing whether he always was like that, we've not exactly been lead to believe Starlight even tried writing letters.>People are complex, they can feel more than one thing at a timeOf course, but nothing Starlight has done or said implied that jealousy was any significant part of those. Abandonment, inferiority, loneliness, pain, sure, but as you say, she's making it about how the world took him away (and maybe she was not enough, but less so), at no point does she blame Sunburst or show any resentment towards him, just the situation that brought him away. It's not even certain she wanted him back, just for something like it to not be able to happen again. And talents were part of that, but not because she wants those talents or thinks they make others better than her, but because they pull them away and if anything make them worse. It's more of an inverse of jealousy, she does not envy special talents, she despises them because they hurt her.
>>42838951Since he ignores letters from his mom chances are he ignores letters in general, that is the type of person he is, like a s0 Twilight who still didn't value friendship yet.>we've not exactly been lead to believe Starlight even tried writing lettersYou're starting to get it. Truth is she wouldn't write one. Sunburst just abandoned her right in her face, he stopped acknowledging her and left without even saying goodbye. That devastated her and made her feel worthless, she was no longer worthy of being friends with Sunburst due to her weakness. Why didn't Moondancer just send a letter to Twilight? Same thing, though Starlight's reason is more understandable.Starlight's ideology clearly implies jealousy as a factor in how differences in ability can create negative feelings. It's not exactly the special talents she despises, but their effect on interpersonal relationships. She trained hard in magic, motivated by her failures, to become equal with her peers. She got so good she likely got persecuted from the opposite side of her blank flank days, probably from showing off her magic and accidentally causing trouble. I love the irony in how Starlight quickly surpassed Sunburst in ability and how her talent made it possible to take away talents, it's poetic.>at no point does she blame Sunburst or show any resentment towards him, just the situation that brought him awayThis. When Starlight encounters a problem the first place she looks in inwards to figure out what she did wrong, rather than blame others or make excuses she tries to find a solution on her own. An admirable trait though it gets her in trouble sometimes.>It's not even certain she wanted him back, just for something like it to not be able to happen again.Exactly. She begrudgingly accepted that he was lost to her, why would an important wizard like Sunburst talk to a nobody like her? Though deep in her heart a part of her did want him back, she just wasn't able to start moving on until Twilight helped her.
>>42837512why didn't luna just talk to her sister, or make a moon fanclub, or create a holiday for the moon, or read a biology book, or ask her little ponies hey do you go to sleep because you hate me? no way luna I love you, I just get sleepy at night and dream about fucking your tiny ass
90 minutes to go!

I queued up The Cutie Map episodes, in case anyone wants to chill before the stream
is the episode supposed to be playing right now?
>>42840263>>42840238Just to chill for nowThe main episodes playing today will be The Cutie Re-Mark
>>42840273Sounds gud
>>42836509I agree, Glim's is a much more compelling story that embodies the values of friendship. It's a little silly that it took 5 seasons for the writers to go "wait a second, let's have our hero Talk it out for once instead of using violence" and I'm glad that set a new trend at least until s8.
>>42836381>one-shot friendship lasers is just too cheesy and lazy and it robs the victim of any decent development. That hurt Sunset's redemption a lot for me, she instantly became a paragon of friendship guiding her incompetent friend group to victory. Glimmy started from the bottom, learning the basics of friendship to help her overcome her insecurities so she can become a better pony. She had to work to earn her transformation which is simply more realistic and a better lesson to those wanting to change themselves.
>>42839211>Starlight's ideology clearly implies jealousy as a factor in how differences in ability can create negative feelingsNo, it doesn't. None of the things you and I listed here imply jealousy. She doesn't want to be like Sunburst/other ponies, she wants to be with them and tries to accomplish that by making them alike not herself like them.>to become equal with her peersheadcanon>she likely got persecuted from the opposite sideheadcanon, and still no envy.>It's not exactly the special talents she despises, but their effect on interpersonal relationshipsYes, and therefore she does not envy those effects, she'd sooner pity those ponies than be jealous of them.We clearly agree on a lot of points here, and certainly jealousy can accompany these feelings, but it doesn't have to. As depicted Glimmer really shows no hint of it.>>42839410Absolutely and I'm not saying Luna's story doesn't have issues either but there's still more to it than Glimmer's.>>42840322I also never really agreed with the GlimShim comparisons. Sunset quickly got integrated and over time became good at just about anything she tried, while Starlight never properly hit it off with the Mane 6 and found her friendships elsewhere and while she has severe powerscaling issues those just let her bruteforce things, she's not really egregiously multitalented like Shimmer became.

Twilight makes a convincing argument.

>>42840340>I'm not saying Luna's story doesn't have issues either but there's still more to itgood joke, Luna just got mad over ponies going to sleep.
