Oh my god…
>>43257382>the desaturated itunes uploads are more horsey than the revisionism propaganda ones
>>43257382Wait if they only see like this then why is Pinkie Pie named Pinkie Pie and what do they see when they refer to Rainbow Dash?
>>43257382A general remind that Equestrians aren't our Terran horses.
>>43257403Anon, horses in earth are not ponies in Equestria. Ponies have perfect colour vision because Equestria is the best.
wait hold a second, so the animals that have bright and colorful colors on their fur and feathers, cant see them properly?
>>43257409They have to develop a better color vision as their life became more sophiscated.
>>43257382>only blue sky and grass importantHorses couldn't be any more based
To ponies, Pinkie looks just as grey as her sisters
>>43257409Trichromatic vision is not "perfect" color vision. The fact that human can't distinguish monochromatic green paint from a mix of cyan and yellow paint tells you enough. If humans had RYGB tetrachromatic vision, they would be able to do that. So we're still colorblind. Humans call the mix of red and blue "purple". Let's call cyan+yellow "cyelle". Humans would be green-cyelle colorblind.Same for monochromatic orange vs red+yellow, etc.
How the hell did someone determine what a horse's vision is like? Did they ask the horse? Do horses secretely talk but choose not to answer because they know were monsters?
>>43257918i was the horse they askedpicrel is me
>>43257382me on the right
>>43257950Can you neigh for us?
>>43257924>Writers brotherzoned Fluttershy fansWhat did they mean by this?
>>43257382Ponies in Equestria have polychromatic vision due to magic, they see colors that we can't even imagine.>Nurse Redheart would diagnose you as colorblind
>>43257382If our little ponies didn’t have the extra cone, they wouldn’t be able to make apple pies if they all use green apples and the flavor of any given apple pie would be a crapshoot.
>>43257901Just imagine an entirely new spectrum of unique colors that we will never experience. I mean, it is impossible to imagine colors we haven't seen before. But still, just think about that these colors are real and we are blind to them.
>>43257382>horses see two colors, sky and grassthey have it so much better than us it's not fair
holy shit...
>>43257415A lot of it might be for camouflage.>>43257918They probably use some sort of color-based Skinner-box. Associate a color with getting a treat and then test if horses can consistently choose the right color.>>43258435Apple bucking IRL.
>>43258427>Despite being trichromats, humans can experience slight tetrachromacy at low light intensities, using their mesopic vision. In mesopic vision, both cone cells and rod cells are active. While rods typically do not contribute to color vision, in these specific light conditions, they may give a small region of tetrachromacy in the color space. Human rod cell sensitivity is greatest at 500 nm (cyan) wavelength, which is significantly different from the peak spectral sensitivity of the cones (typically 420, 530, and 560 nm).Interesting. Someone needs to do experiments in twilight. Maybe RGCB tetrachromatic color-blindness tests?
>>43258427Maybe one day we'll get cool cyberpunk eyes that'll let us see in a ton of new colors. Or maybe it'll just fry our brains seeing colors we can't even comprehend yet.
>>43258415>the flavor of any given apple pie would be crap.FTFY
>>43258415This was a plot point in "Rainbow Roadtrip" special.
>>43258708We would need neuronal connections so our brain can actually interpret 4 base colors too. There are tetrachromats with 4 cones that don't have these connections so they don't actually see additional colors. But there are true tetrachromats with the required neuronal connections, and they experience a vast spectrum of colors that we can't even imagine. I'm kind of envious, colors are beautiful and they get to experience them at such a deeper level.
>>43258701We don't see additional unique colors in the dark unfortunately, only varying brightnesses of colors we already know.
>>43257382mlp "ponies" are not actually ponies. They are not even part of the same tree of life. "ponies" don't even call themselves "ponies", what you think they are speaking English. This is just a localization we came up with based on superficial morphological similarities. They are not ponies, and we cannot draw any conclusions based on the biology of actual ponies.
>>43259389THEY'RE ALIENS AND TWILIGHT SPARKLE, IF THAT'S EVEN HER REAL NAME, IS GOING TO PROBE MY ASSHOLE!
>>43257409Are you sure they even have vision as we would understand it. I have a theory that the equestrian "sun" does not actually emit light. Instead its a magical construct whose "light" is a form of magical energy. Equestria has a real sun and stars which ponies cannot see. This is why eternal night did not kill the planet, because the real sun still rose, it was just invisible to the ponies.
>>43259394Dude, whoa… That’s why their eyes are so big and you can see when a unicorn is using magic, because they see in a completely different spectrum, one that is put off by magic! Maybe that’s part of why they have to manage the weather too? If your “day” and “night” aren’t actually tied to the rotation of your planet then you could end up with funny things like blazing hot nights and cold days with dense radiation fog. Doesn’t really explain the seasons though, does it? That would still happen on its own. Only way I could see it kinda work is if they raised and lowered their magic sun in concert with the real one. I dunno, but there’s definitely some potential for some grand autistic fanfiction there.
>>43257382I'll bite and take the bait. What shade of green do ponies see your skin as if their vision is like that in the picture?
>>43258514I hate to have to be the one to tell you this Anon, but they figured that out by taking horse eyes and cutting them up to see how they’re constructed.
>>43258435Isn't that basically the fabled "tool usage" that makes scientists cream themselves because it stands for high intelligence in animals?
>>43259469No.
>>43257918eye dissection under microscope. the distribution of photo receptors tell how much each animal can see in each range of the eletromagnetic spectrum
>>43258435I want a mare to slam me with her butt
>>43257918You are kind of dumb, dude.
Reminder that ponies can't just see all sorts of color spectrums they can also see your soul and its makeup.
>>43259459So some scientists did get a Nobel prize (1967) for figuring out how to directly measure the spectral response of the proteins in human eyes. I imagine someone has done the same for animal eyes. Though it still seems like it would've been way easier to just do a basic psych experiment with animals. But I don't know enough about animal psychology papers to figure out which happened first.
>>43259720>way easier to just do a basic psych experiment with animalsYou forget its only a more recent development for people to start treating animals with some level of compassion or dignity. If you asked to murder some horses to harvest their eyes for an experiment they wouldn't really give a shit. Extinctions and wiping out animals to near critical levels for trophy hunting was encouraged. A household that didn't abuse their dog would be seen as abnormal.
>>43259749I didn't mean easier on people's consciences. I was thinking it'd be simpler/cheaper. Spending a few hours feeding horses treats seems like it would be less expensive than chemical spectroscopy.
>>43257382Something's wrong with their disk color. The horse one seems mirrored. If they only have 2 cones "yellow" and "blue", then they shoule see yellow and blue at full intencity. It's not the cas with this circle.
