Didn't even know about that until now. There's no way he wasn't a Nazi sympathizer. Although he always denied it, there's way too much evidence. Angel of Death glorifies Mengele. Collecting Nazi memorabilia. Wearing that shirt. RIP Jeff.

"I know why people misinterpret it—it's because they get this knee-jerk reaction to it. When they read the lyrics, there's nothing I put in the lyrics that says necessarily [Josef Mengele] was a bad man, because to me—well, isn't that obvious? I shouldn't have to tell you that."

How does it feel that no selfresepcting artists thinks Venom started anything? How does it feel that most influential black metal artists do not acknowledge (rightfully)anyone outside of Norway for contributing in any shape or form?

Fenriz about Euronymous and Snorre(direct quotation):

>I have to say that, they invented the typical (Norwegian) Black Metal riff

Ihsahn about the existence of Black Metal before the initial release by Darkthrone(direct quotation):

>of course black metal was not a thing you know, in 1991.

Satyr about Grymyrk demo (direct quotation):

>The Grymyrk tape is the most importantt because there comes the guitar sound to Thorns so properly forward. In a way he has inspired people who are far more famous

Abbath about the beginning of Black Metal (direct quotation):

>There wasn't a black metal scene or anything. Black Metal was the name of a Venom track from 1982. We couldn't call the music anything other than black metal. Before that, Bathory and all those bands were just called death metal.

Varg Vikernes about Black Metal(direct quotation):
>Darkthrone, has also at the same time recorded their "A Blaze ln The Northern Sky" album, and probably because of Euronymous' influence, just before recording it, decided to change the whole, originally a Death Metal album into what we today can easily define as the first Black Metal album ever. They also looked more COOL than before, although I think Fenriz has always looked the same, even when they played Death Metal. FINALLY, some different music! Finally something original
>Now, some of you will react to what I just said here, The First Black Metal album ever, what about Bathory or Venom, right? Well, no. That was Thrash Metal, or I guess in the case of Venom, Trash Metal. These bands were never called or understood as Black Metal bands. Black Metal as a name for a genre was a term coined by Euronymous, inspired by a Venom album titled by the same name, for a specific group of bands.

Maybe people with certain personality disorders like cluster B are more likely to sing because of a desire to return to an infantile or pre-birth consciousness. Much of music from a creative point of view could be a way of playing with or probing into the nature of the barrier between what is and is not self, and the way self and nonself interact in power relationships. Obsessive artistic creativity is a cope for the apparent dispowerment inherent to individuality and individuation. The ultimate insistence, against all evidence, of the value of the artist's experience of subjective life is his art. There is no reason for me believe I have anything to say that is unique. Are all 8 billion people changing the world as much as they can? Of course not. How many billions have come before? It is like likelt that this thought has happened before. There are limitations to what people can care enough to think about. Most thoughts have probably been about the same things. I have exited the general stream of thought and ended up in a stinky creek full of weird bugmans. I look at my reflection in the water and my wings flutter as I jump. I am one of a fast-breeding pestilence sent to decompose God's composition.
>>
>>123745840
Having a thought is completely useless unless you have the power to exert its influence. This is what separates creators from consoomers.

It would be funny to contrast how metal would be if key creators always had all their basic needs met in a way that gave them a constant faith that their drives would be satisfied, but I dont think death metal is all about hunger, or sex, as the other responder has "allewded" to. I particularly listen to Cryptopsy a lot, but I find Lord Worm's vocals to be incredibly emotionally, physically, linguistically, and socially unrestrained in a way that reminds me of my brother's daughter. She is one year old and she growls from her soul. A low, moaning and mournful half-cry that would be extremely low and gravelly if she had an adult's lungs and what not.
The connection between Cryptopsy and psychology is deep, considering Lord Worm studied the subject in "le college" or whatever they call it. Songs like "Lichmistress" and "Graves of the Fathers" are encoded with oedipal messages, like Neon Genesis Evangelion. I don't know if the creators of either of these works have cluster B personality disorders though. His stage presence and wildly incomprehensible and self-stimulatory vocalizations also seem indicative of potential autism or malingering. He did some violent rocking with his arms holding his elbows as if he was cold or in a straitjacket and I like that a lot.

There are other things to be mad about and death metal isn't always mad. My favorite kind if death metal is emotionally horrified, disgusting/disgusted, cruel, or perverse, probably.
>>123745878
What if one neither creates nor consumes? This seems to be related to the ideals of very religious Buddhists.
>>
I would also say "horrified/horrifying" is an integral part of how one can be when listening to or creating death metal, and it is interesting that in my use of the slash that I am indicating a breakdown between subject and object and a subsumation into the emotion or experience of, for example, horror, itself. The mass experience of horror at a show would be the antithesis of a church service. There is no service. People have come together for individuality and hate. Grasped by the spirit of Satan, music leads to beatings and injuries by electrifying the black puke in your dino balls.

Or is it "straightjacket"? I don't know. I am not making an ass out of myself, I am just an ass. If you have ever lived by an ass, you know that ever morning, it says some shit because it feels that it has to. Just like my ass. Getting mad at me misspelling a word is like getting mad at your ass for farting, or even shitting perhaps. Everybody poops, as a wise man once wrote. Humans think they have a way of dealing with their poop that is very sophisticated, but really, they just bury it in a hole somewhere, fundamentally.

Growing up in the 80's must have been crazy in terms of how their God was dying and they didn't even know it and were all trying to smile and cope their way through it. Now it's mostly the same, but now I guess most people think Gods don't exist and never existed.

People get filtered HARD by the mixing in the Wintersun song Storm. The first half is supposed to be a wall of sound that intensifies until everything is drowned by the MIGHT OF THE STORM, followed by the second half where the storm audibly passes and is followed by calm, clean lead guitar. It's art. Simple as.
>>

Would you say the vocal performance is a weak link with a lot of metal now? Especially with stuff like atmo/dissoshit. I feel like if you inserted a mikko aspa in there it would be a lot better.

Just came in the mail, pretty enjoyable so far. Brian definitely isn't a replacement for Trevor, but man does he kill it on vocals. Imo still not as good as Nightbringers, but enjoy it more than Verminous for sure.

I thought this wasn't out for a couple more days. Been looking forward to this, more out of curiosity than anything though. I'm a massive fan of the band and have been listening to them since the Nocturnal days. The singles for Servitude didn't do much for me. Americans have no culture, doesn't matter if they are of European descent or not(they always have that 1% non-Yuro blood)
A nation(not even a nation lol) with no culture cannot produce worthwhile art. This is why America has no classical composers worth mentioning. Neither does it have metal bands that truly shine with talent and artfulness, no your power-chord-sloppa-tallica doesn't count, not even close. You are either an americuck pussy scared to admit that I'm right, or your diapershit tourist taste is in the way.

I would agree with you about Panopticon when it comes to Roads to the North and everything after. I think Kentucky was interesting since it included bluegrass and other americana type writing in it, even if it was jarring and didn't flow with the metal portions. It was at least attempting something unique, even if it wasn't terribly successful at it.
