I liked it more than I expected the singer has swagger and charisma which is probably the most important thing. The band is tight maybe a little guitar heavy mix but I liked these songs. Extra credit for actually being a band playing instruments in current year. Isn't Lacrosse on the Mississippi and has lots of bars?

>>123815488I don't necessarily understand the music you are making but from the perspective of someone with no clue what all is going on this sounds like it's professionally done. I don't know how I'd compare this, say if you see a great local band live and don't know them at all but they sound real good so you choose to follow their music? Your stuff has that appeal. It also feels like a lot of it would work as background movie music for action(y) scenes. It reminds me of Crank, Transporter, movies in that period for some reason. >>123815504The vocals feel a bit loud, but I assume it was made prominent by choice? I think if you give your instruments some more room to breathe you could share more of your abilities. It feels like the vocals are always 'soloing' while the tracks just provide backing rhythms. I think you could give the instruments more room to shine.>>123815511More music I don't necessarily understand but I don't think it sounds bad. I just don't know where to place it, my brain is unsure what I'm hearing but it knows it's musical. I feel like this would be good general background sound for activities.>>123815533Again not stuff I understand really, it is quite pretty though. This sounds like something I'd associate with floating through outer space, drifting in the ocean, weightlessness and freedom kinda.>>123815695Now this is closer to my musical box. Only thing I seem to notice I'd critique is my right ear enjoyed the guitar more than the left, I'm not sure if one is lower db or I'm going partially deaf. It sounds uneven in that sense. I get the intro vibe of having it only on one ear for dramatics, so perhaps it's just my ears didn't pick up on the volume being the same because the right got conditioned in the beginning. Nice high bleghs btw I have no clue how to get those to come out.>>123815843See above, the ambient stuff isn't necessarily my musical taste but it sounds good. This one reminds me of falling in darkness

Cont from >>123817422>>123815851I have no idea what Grease Wizard means but I'm probably going to sing it in the shower randomly. Has a vibe between old Ozzy (BS days) and the soundtrack from Halloween. >>123815922I listened to the opening track and skimmed a bit of the rest for honesty sake, but this has old Judas Priest and other 'british invasion' type rock vibes. >>123816049This is straght-up horror movie music. >>123815929I don't do drugs but I imagine this is what being high looks and sounds like? >>123816057This feels like 2000s young adult movie background music. Nick and Noras, Scott Pilgrim, it has 'drive at night and ponder your teen angst' vibes. Idk how to make this stuff, it's something I'd enjoy trying if I had the voice for it though. Here's my contribution. I got no feedback on production in /mu/, this is done entirely in my bedroom except vocals I recorded in my car on a 20 dollar mic from Walmart. I definitely need to get better gear, I'm just curious if I'm on a decent path. All played by me, sang and wrote by me. I purposely edited this to sound like a live performance recording so any tips on that would be nice too, I wanted to make this sound how it would if recorded from a live show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDB_ryiBmdU

>>123818244Thanks for the input!
>>123818284your voice is good and an asset but I don't think you need to sound like everybody else. just my opinion, don't take it too seriously.
>>123818121>>123818244Guitar seems in tune to me, music doesn't have to follow a standard structure. I see the shitposting trannies have arrived to talk shit on anything artistic because all they know how to create is disgusting trash that is as unlovable as they are. Ywnbaw.
>>123818311I understand that and I honestly appreciate your criticism. I made the choice not to have a chorus in this one because I felt the tiresome buildup of verses without climax fit the frustration in the theme. Although the chords change slightly for the last 2. But I understand as a listener that it's not the most satisfying
>>123818363you're deaf and likely superchromosomal
>>123818423It just seems like the B part is a pre-chorus. I'm not saying you need a big poppy power chorus. It just seems somewhat underdeveloped, but yeah, do your own thing, man.

>>123815695Guitar work is sick, and the mixing of the drums is pretty damn nice. The main vocals sound a bit dry [could use distortion/compression or whatever this is just my opinion]. Removing some lower frequencies in the vocals around 80hz and below could help them sit in the mix better [and reduce muddiness] and help your drums and guitar low ends shine through in the mix. Real cool shit here I love the energy and the way you have everything arranged.>>123818476What is your drug of choice?>>123818044Ayooo this whole project is pretty unique and creative! "I'm So Tired, I Could Sleep with a Horse" stood out for me. Love the dark atmosphere of this project. Your track "Grim Trigger" from Look Blink See, is also pretty cool, although it was so smooth and full, that when you drop the bass line at 1:13 it's really off-putting, lol.>>123817903This sounds really cool. I want to get better.>>123815695mixes sound great. not normally my type of music but my favorite part was the drums and the background screams at the end of chemical tomb were super dope and added a nice level of depth and detail to the production/mixI loved the guitar chords on the 2nd song. samples were sick. keep it up>>123815929tell me, did you make this music video? cause if so it's incredible.other than that, the song is really cool. my favorite part is the breakdown at around 1:40 and how it ends is fireeee. and that lush e-piano is beautiful and adds so much. You do a very good at differentiating between sections. It sounds like you have a great ear for production overall and added nice details to your song- like how the vocal is vocoded at the end and how you sorta chop the melody and make it really loud. Great stuff.Your production style kinda reminds me of Tyler, The Creator's.
>>123818121Big compliment man, thank you. Wasn’t expecting unanimous positive feedback. I posted our last release on here and the response was pretty 50/50I listened and personally I love songs with no chorus. Progressive song structure is one of my favorite things in music. As for constructive crit, I really just think you should up how detailed it is. Add some more instruments and get the production quality up and you could probably have something really good. But good job it was a well written song that I enjoyed from start to finish>>123815851I like the lore with the intro, that sorta shit always makes me smile, reminded me of a tful282 filler track (compliment). Pretty well written, and some good ideas felt genuinely creative, but I kinda just wish the mix was done differently. Really enjoyable though>>123816303Work on the drums is very very good, but the actual melodies I think could be focused on more>>123817347This was sort of a poppier folk music variant on sun city girls to me, really good shit probably gonna revisit this. This is a very specific type of lofi production where the drums have this tape-like distortion on them that pulls you in immediately. The background humming vocals vocals were beautiful, and sorta remind me of some early NMH stuff. Probably would have done numbers on /mu/ in 2014 just because of that. My only real criticism is that the structure could be more interesting, everything in there was good but I was occasionally wishing for a big change up that didn’t happen. Great job

>>123819620 cont >>123817781I think it’s sorta hard for me to comment on metal music, but I think the only thing to work on is the delivery of your voice. You sound shakey at points and I think you could easily fix that.>>123817903Again some really interesting ideas that I think just need to be executed in a way that has more detail. If you added a second lead instrument on top of that industrial guitar it would open the whole thing up a lot more>>123817972Do this again but make it even busier and you’ll have a perfect album. I think a lot of hip hop is missing out on maximalist shit and I can hear that coming out here, kind of exciting honestly there’s a load of potential in what you’re doing. Another constructive criticism is that the main vocals have this half trying feel to it, and I know that’s sort of a style in a lot of hip hop, but if you didn’t do that I think it would fit a lot better. Great shit honestly good work.
>>123819373I don’t mean to be mean, but I think you could have tried a lot harder. Hearing the exact same sample go on forever with off beat percussion just isn’t that interesting. If you wanna go for this type of sound you need to actually add something to the samples you’re taking, even just cutting them up in interesting ways.

>>123819695>>123817781 (You)>I think it’s sorta hard for me to comment on metal music, but I think the only thing to work on is the delivery of your voice. You sound shakey at points and I think you could easily fix that.Yeah while I have played instruments for ~15 years my singing is basically just me imitating things I've heard and karaoke'd in my car. I have no honest clue 'how' to sing and it doesn't seem learnable like instrumentation was; I think my voice wasn't blessed with natural singing talent, and I would _NEED_ to pay for lessons to fix it but I could be wrong. I don't even know where to start.>>123817781 (You)>thank you for the feedback. i really really liked your track - great chorus, good heavy guitars, ethereal vibe. id honestly listen to an entire album of this. you gotta put some effort in promoting it and putting your name out, good stuff>my only issue is that a few vocal notes were a bit off key. dont be afraid to pitch shift certain parts if you need to, melodyne is a great tool, the built in one in logic one is also pretty good if thats what you're using.Yw. Yeah, see above I a sooooooooooooo not a singer. I can build instrumental tracks great but the singing is just me hoping for the best. If I could rig an AI with Shaun Morgan of Seether or Aaron Lewis of Staind to sing my songs I'd just do that as those are the vocal types I think would fit what I write and I haven't got a clue how to sing like either of those guys.
>>123823117dont be that self conscious, the vocals are good but they're not there. there are a bunch of great youtube lessons and why not put some time and money into irl lessons if thats what on your mind? confidence and attitude are what make a lot of good metal and hard rock vocalists work imo, even if they hit a wrong note or some shitalso you can just do this classic shoegaze trick of putting the vocals in the background and prioritiesing big guitar textures. your call.
>>123823117I was the first guy you replied to. Singing is just sorta something you have to do all day and practice to get better. Lessons would obviously be good, but really they're just gonna tell you to try forcing more air out when you sing (which is good advice). What I would suggest is to record yourself singing, listen back to it, and then do that over and over again.

>>123823032I'm happy that it isn't as shit as it sounds / looks. Some of these tracks have fucked up mixing or mastering. I'm still kinda proud because i started makin shit in cracked fl studio from year 2021 up until now. First year was awful. Having no music theory or idea how to use the software made it hard to create good tracks. I am still new to music production, but i bet with time i'll only get better. I hope i will get a small audience or fan group before i die due to bi-polar like mind problems. >,,<>>123823822The "review" was just me kinda yappin about how the tracks made me feel. I am not the biggest fan of the ambient, drone stuff because it takes time or some kind of mood to really appreciate such work. That being said i enjoyed the album. Some tracks didn't really impress me. A lot of drone and ambient music sounds the same to me. But stuff like Requiem, Ring, Drift, Resolve, and the last few Untitled tracks are exactly what i enjoy. They are rich in sound, sound that is both haunting and soothing at the same time. Kind of distorted and dark but also calm and beautiful. I like the melody in the ring kind of cutting and repeating as if it was a broken record playing it. It gives the music weirdly calm yet ominous feeling. Oh and the classical instrumentals whatever it is. I think i can hear bits of violins and cellos playing in the back. Something that sounds like a trumpet echoing through foggy hills and forests. I love it! You can kind of see an image if u stop and think about a scene that could have such ambience or atmosphere. Perfect for game soundtracks. The last tracks reminded me of Machinarium. Old game that has a melancholic grayish dirty atmoshpere that is suprisingly quite soul hugging and calming in a weird way. I like this vibe. Not often will i listen to stuff like this. But i am glad to see some good ambient that doesn't sound boring. I'll buy the digital files once i have more cash. No matter who you are i'd love to help a bit <3

>>123825698Having a short loop of a melody or notes can be enough to make a track. Loop on it's own will become boring but adding on more layers of noise will give the track more movement. Ring does it well i feel. The first part repeats but once more noise is added it makes the track more interesting and nice. Having that repeating melody change a bit from time to time or adding some other sounds to make a rich harmony will make your music more impactful, intresting and beautiful. Thats kind of my advice for ambient producers. Making music that has a good balance of chaos and order is in my opinion the key to captivating art works.I'm pretty sure you already know this though. Keep up the good work and don't be afraid to show your unique or artistic vision. Making music that is suppose to have meaning without words or singing can be tough. I'm not sure if thats what you want with your works, but if you'd ever like to portray a message, meaning or a feeling without words, then experimenting with instruments and sounds is the key. Certain sounds, melodies, etc can make listeners emotional. It's a sign of a great artist, if their work gives someone emotions that are strong. Negative or positive... doesn't matter. Making people feel... thats the purpose of art. I hope you, me, anyone will one day make something that is so powerful. I think you are close to achieving that. You can already make someone like me think about the noise. Making it more emotional can come from your soul. If you really want to pass on a moral that you think is important, then you could try giving your music titles that are intresting. Names that are kind of mysterious can attract an audience who wants to listen to music with a deeper meaning. My favourite artist 'Nero's Day At Disneyland' aka, Lauren Bousfield does that really well. Not sure if this word salad is helpful but idk... just my thoughts. Keep up the good work tho <3

Great shit honestly good work.i appreciate the feedback, and i def agree on the criticisms, for my next project i do wanna focus on it being busier in certain areas as well as more emotional and intense vocals.>>123823099>this is really good. holy shit. cant say im into the vocals but the production and mix are on point.again, all the same stuff i said above lol, appreciate the feedback

I have no brand new singles to show right now, recording on my upcoming third album Typolice has been held back a bit due to my mic needing repairs. Here are the two released singles so far:https://soundcloud.com/bonbos/sets/typolice-early-mixes/Also here is my second album from 2022, Dust Storm:https://bonbos.bandcamp/album/dust-storm/>>123817903The Redeemer is a good idea for an 80's gothic/industrial track, you have the gritty guitar sound and monotone vocals/lyrics nailed down, but the mixing and mastering needs to be reworked. The harpsichord probably should stay in the center of the mix rather than panned left, but this one is more personal preference than a big issue. The bass drum blends with the electric guitar strums to the point where it sounds too resonant like you can hear the light reverb from each beat more than the impact of the beat itself and it keeps going throughout the song and gets annoying. The vocals are constantly trying to cut through the mix and sound either too loud or too quiet at different points, even when they're double-tracked. The oscillating backing vocals that start at 1:50 especially should be lowered or scrapped, my stomach felt queasy for the rest of the song due to the frequencies when they first came into the left channel. I'm not sure how else to describe this, but the song can still sound like a heavy wall of sound, but the way it is it sounds too much, too uneven and unpleasant to listen to at a normal volume.

>>123843495thank you for listening the acoustic ballad is by far the best track, the others are either too raw and unmixed or feature strained, unflattering vocals. you have a good lower range, and that mixed with brighter acoustic guitars (and banjo i think?) makes it shine. stick to that.also, a lot of basic mixing can uplift your music. compress the vocal to give it more grit, add some light slapback delay to guitars etc

Otherwise, try using this chill synthwave genre as a starting point, but add elements from other genres to make something more interesting.

>>123848056Aedact here. What kind of experimentation would you like to hear?
>>123848474its hard to tell exactly what would sound good with your stuff, but possibly some more decay to your sounds, so that the sounds would develop and diffuse themselves around the spacial space of your art piece, they will span most of the space, and so they go back and fourth. i think that might sound interesting. i don't remember hearing that in you work.her are some unrelated to you, but tracks i think have unique textures and/or unique layering.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSmBHnIydMAhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y07h6OKEuOsand you probably like this track right?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3Hr71lj-OIi think ultimately is trying to reach new sounds, so you just find of have an idea and you go with to play with it. just experimenting with sounds, not being afraid to break things.but otherwise man, i like your boss, don't be mistaken, i just think you have good potential to also innovate in that space.
sorry lmao i meant i like your sound. not your boss. i don't know your boss.>>123848580
>>123848580Thanks for your advice. Right at the moment I'm working at a piece which is very close to what you're saying. At least from a simple theoretical way my track Pneumal should be somehow related to your description, give it a listen. Experimenting with sound processing is always a prerogative of my music. I also already know each of those track you posted, love them.https://aedact.bandcamp.com/track/pneumal

I love the chord progression and the sound of the synth lead over it. Very cool shit. I’m going to try to listen to more today.
>>123850557I look forward to hearing the new version with vocals. Thanks man, that's probably my favorite from that album. Let me know what you think of the other tracks, they're all very different from one another.
