If want to see a culture in decline, look at its art. Can we talk about the degradation of art culture in the 2020s? These are the best rated albums by zoomers of the 2020s. What an embarrassment.
>>
>caring about RYM ratings
You shouldn't be posting on /mu/.
>>
Only good album actually doing something unique up there is Injury Reserve
>>
>>123840028
I'm glad i live in a day and age, where i can easily find music from all over the world, from all periods of history.

I haven't listen to any fo those albums, and the only artist i know is black country, new road...and that suits me fine.
>>
>>123840028
I agree, but you shouldn't be using a zoomer website to gauge anything. I'm here, you're here, we know this shit is trash and totally irrelevant outside of the zoomer sphere of influence. We also know that all of this shit will be forgotten sooner rather than later. Instead of discussing degradation we should be ignoring the shit and instead focus on identifying valuable art that's falling by the wayside.
>>
>>123840028
i guess the memes about rym are true. plenty of good albums have come out in the 2020s but i'd only include a couple of those rym picks on the list
>>
>>123840028
They are about as retarded as /mu/ core.
All of you are idiotic, tasteless plebs who use music and these gay websites as some sort of pseudo identity. Guess what faggots, faceless anons aren't your friends and website culture doesn't exist in anonymous websites with extremely fluctuating user bases.
I come here after 7-8 years and I see that this place has become an abject disaster, it's utterly inrecognizeable.
Just seek out music alone on youtube or something, cuz you sure as shit ain't going to get any meaningful discussion on here anymore.

Why are zoomers pushing the shittiest millennial musicians then?
>>
>>123840185
>zoomer website
so you've ditched over a decade of RYM being a part of /mu/ just to feed your generational war bullshit.

>we know this shit is trash and totally irrelevant outside of the zoomer sphere of influence
Most of these musicians are Millennials see below.
>>123840805

>We also know that all of this shit will be forgotten sooner rather than later
Just like The Hotlier, Moms Jeans, DIIV, Alvvays, Remo Drive, Destruction Unit, Spanish Love Songs, Soul Glo, Modern Baseball etc
>>
>>123840882
Same applies to pitchfork and fantano you literal nigger.
>>
>>123840907
Fantano is only popular because of zoomers, and Pitchfork only gave two of those albums BNM, and just today ignored BCNR on their best albums of the 2020s list.
>>
>>123840028
only 2 rock albums sad
>>
Not a single 9/10 or above album there. Amazing. It's over.
>>
>>123840970

>>123840028
Never listened to any of those albums feels good

step back and look where we are standing. /mu/ brought Fantano out of the gutter.

We just seem to have to lean on a few rock and hip hop records to keep up with a throughline narrative to pretend they're not mostly dead, it's whatever.
Rock history was always really pretty insular and ignored a lot of what was going on in music, leaves us with this idea that certain music was the soundtrack to a time, but really the stuff we hold up is pretty niche and wasn't more important or relevant than other shit happening except to certain groups.
Rock history has been so insular to white male youth and it's just a more varied demographic deciding what's important now. It's still mostly made up of young white males, but even they are more varied at this point.
Imo that Big Thief record is classic, and it's representative of the dredges of a hopeful millennial era, a post god folk to bring us off of the internet and back to our physical humanity and with our feet on the ground. Sadly it's a record most people on this board don't get at all, because a woman is behind the heart of it, but it's testament to its importance that it lands a spot there at all.
>>
I only know 1 artist of this list
why are hipsters like this?
>>
At least none of those are garbage troon furry shit zoomers love.
>>
>>123841221
JPEGMAFIA is
>>
>>123841189
I agree that Big Thief albums is the only record on that list that's actually great.

These are actual generation-defining albums

Taylor Swift - Folklore
Billie Eilish - When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go?
Olivia Rodrigo - Sour
SZA- SOS
Sabrina Carpenter - Short n' Sweet
Doja Cat - Planet Her
Travis Scott - Utopia
Bad Bunny - Un Verano Sin Ti
Lana del Rey - Norman Fucking Rockwell!
The Weeknd - After Hours
Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia
Chappell Roan - The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess
Charli XCX- Brat
Harry Style - Harry's House
Mitski - The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We

And that doesn't mean they're good, they are utter garbage but it's what a lot of young people are actually listening to and it's the sound of the mainstream as we speak. Meanwhile, that RYM is still niche shit, no one outside from these online circles actually discuss Black Country, New Road or JPEGMAFIA.
>>
>>123841057
Has there been any 9/10 or above album this decade?
>>
>>123841646
I remember coming to /mu/ for the first time like 7 years ago feeling completely unaware with at least half of the artists being discussed on the catalog. this shit is a huge bubble and makes you out of touch with reality if you let yourself be alienated for too much time inside it. oh well, I guess 4chan as a whole is like this at any given subject.

Most of those artists are a waste of time, being lesser known doesn't make them any better. There are better places and things to do if you actually like music (pic related)

Why do ypipo, specifically gentrifiers, theater kids, and posers, like JPEGMAFIA so much?
>>
>>123840028
That Danny Brown album is a 7-8, about the only one. The Little Simz album wasn't horrible either, haven't listened to in awhile though. Some of you guys should try Scaring The Hoes, I think its really good.
>>
>>123840028
my opinion on the decline of society music and culture discourse presently on mu and in our hearts is basically that there are so many unemerged artists out there, people like us, our age, who grew up the same way, with hopes and dreams about what they wanna do with their life and with music, that haven't done them yet. basically what I'm saying is that the people who are supposed to make life and music better haven't done it yet. they've buried their hopes and dreams and we need their "light," as people say, to bring the culture back. it's almost like survivorship bias, the people whom success comes easy have already done it. the rest still need to get on it

It's RYM so those are late 90s/early 00s millennials' equivalent of what they think is good music today. 2015 when TPAB came out and became the top album is the last time RYM had its finger close to the pulse of what's truly next level in music.

Popular new stuff on rating websites always get overhyped. This is true for every media you can imagine, you have to wait years until the score gets closer to what a distanced observer would rate

>>123844137
I think it's more baffling that grown men with shitty beards think this is the cutting edge of 2024. It's just sad.

Everybody knows the best albums always remain outside the yearly top. Beth Gibbons and Ulcerate are arguably better than Magdalena Bay
