Only other band that was doing something similar to them by that time was Brutality, and they were still very far from the MDM blueprint that Carcass created from nothing. They also did the same with goregrind and death 'n' roll too. Pretty much the most innovative band in death metal imo.

Alf svensson At the Gates is the only one that matters. Bands like The Chasm and Crimson Massacre who were influenced by it are the real "melodic death metal". Who cares what melodeath is or isn't, it's garbage.
