This in itself isn't a bad technique, but I think you have to use it very strategically to get a good growl out of it. The voice should drive from the chest and the gargle follow it. Constrained-throat vocal styles sound bad to me. As do vocal styles achieved largely by mouth/tongue shape (e.g. BDM, early CC, later Deicide). Coroner vocals do leave a lot to be desired, but it's thrash so bad vocals are basically par for the course. I still listen to Watchtower lol.
