I hate ultra-low tunings for guitars with all my guts. It doesn't sound "heavier", just "bassier". Going lower than B (already low enough) is just going to sound shitty most of the time.
>>130388720Agreed. Bands competing on who can tune the lowest killed good riffs. There is no melody, just djenty syncopation. It also sounds terrible live.
>>130388720Drop A is necessary for deathcor3
>>130388720it's funny too because they tune it super low but then remove all the low end in mixing so it doesn't muddy up the bass frequencies. maybe instead of tuning your guitar to be a bass, you just let the bass handle the bass lol.
>>130388720When you run out of ideas, just tune lower, bro
>>130389287>deathcoreNot metal.
>>130390254and?
>>130389287Deathcore is a child's idea of heavy.Makes sense they would use the most juvenile way to make a song sound heavy.
There is pretty much no reason to tune lower than C Standardhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1aMhfvumas
>>130388720i mean it's like weird time signatures, it can get overused or used as a crutch for otherwise lazy songwriting but i'm not sold that eiher are gimmicks or without merit.
>>130390302please rank ways to make a song sound heavy from most to least juvenile
>>130390748>mostfield recording of a murder>leastpower chords
Sometimes its not even about a specific sound being better or worse, but to stay within the confines of a genre. FWIW my 2 most played tunings are E and B standard. I sometimes do drop A if Im playing slam.
i wanted to make a metal band with my bro and he pretty much insisted on playing in B or A and I just couldn't do it, shit was silly and I wasn't motivated enough to get the right strings to not make it way too twangy
>>130390748Based on the audience I've seen in various shows:Ridiculously low tuning, djent syncopated riffs, breakdowns, growls, constant fast double bass, blast beats, reasonably low tuning (let's just say... C standard), low driving bassline, evil chord changes.
>>130388720DJENT was a mistake and is not Metal
>>130388720Tony Iommi first used C# tuning on a Black Sabbath recording in 1972 and bands still act like down tuning is a novel approach and a shortcut to sounding better.
>>130392099Djent isn't even music. Drum beats are more melodic than djent riffs.
>>130388720I've seen some decent songs in A standard.https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=y_JBl8UmLrYhttps://music.youtube.com/watch?v=1owNX57IHmk
>>130392129c# is not even low. paramore songs are tuned to c# lol.
>>130392099>>130392138have you actually listened to any "djent" music or are you just basing your opinions on ancient image macros?
>>130392138>it needs melody to be musicGo back
>>130392157We call E 'standard' because E tuning is the usual starting point for a guitar or bass, and guitar manufacturers design their instruments to play at optimal levels in E tuning. Most of the best music of all time was recorded in E or Eb, and lack of talent is what drives musicians to try to find a cheat code like down tuning.
>>130392190>morse code is music
>>130392129he was probably on drugs when they did it and probably didn't realize until later
ITT: n00bs seething that they can’t afford 8 string guitars
>>130392190not necessarily but the way you're saying that makes me compelled to say you are definitely not appreciating the value of melody
>>130392904Tim Henson plays 6 string guitars in E standard, and to me he's the best guitar player of the millennial generation.
>>1303929048 string guitars are pointless unless you're a djentmaster or want to experiment with jazz/classical sounds.
>>130392904You can buy a used 8 string for 200 bux these days.
>>130392149>"I've seen some decent songs in A standard.">proceeds to post dogshit songs with uninspired riffsThanks for wasting my time.
i like vektor because they tune in F
>>130393913Their favorite chord progression is F-A-G
>>130388720https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUCodt4zVw4
>>130393822well, uh technically they were A#.
>>130392157D or C# needs to be the new standard tuning
>>130395674Yea true.
>>130390748the key is multi tracking the fuck out of your guitars.
tuning doesn't make your riffs "heavy"if your riff doesn't sound good in E standard it's not heavy
>>130393822>>130395674what about?https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=R5wWR9AI1m8also B flat / A #.
>>130399241I'm not a fan of "Roots", let alone post-Max era...Morbid Angel is a good example of A# sounding cool. But I don't remember more notable examples. Maybe some Meshuggah or Cannibal Corpse.
I play in B standard on a 25'5 scale guitar with floyd. I removed a spring from the floyd so it's extremely wobbly, extremely hard to setup right but once it's done it's done and it feels absolutely wonderful. There is actually room for intonation, the floyd itself is not a problem to setup if you've got the patience. You can trem pick no problem, dive bomb the shit out of already low ass power chords (B standard is the sweet spot) But my favourite album of all time, Electric Wizard's Dopethonre, is tuned in A#. I also subscribe to the opinion that if your riff doesn't sound good in E it's not worth downtuning. That's why, maybe, or maybe it's just my style, I play mid-range usually on the E string with occasional 6th-string riffing.I think it feels and sounds better than a 7-strings guitar that I wouldn't know what the fuck to do with. To me, extended-range guitars are a meme, I'm not interested in them. Baritone why not, but not extended-range. Multiscale too, look good and all. But my custom shitplank is perfect for me.
>>130399650Mortal Decay plays in A#https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuKOT_xB23c
>>130399685>Baritone why not, but not extended-range.so arbitrary lol
>>130400200Playing with an extra string is harder.
