the great debate
PFNO and it's not close
>>130391727Brand New mogs both.
>>130391727TLCW of course, Built to Spill is pretentious boring trash
perfect from now on is on another level and the best rock album of the 90s, only filler is out of sitemeanwhile the lonesome crowded west is 50% filler, and even isaac broke agrees because he never plays the songs live
LCW > PFNO = KILAS > M&A > Long Drive > Nothing wrong with love
>>130391772>only filler is out of sitewtf?
why not both? plenty of room in here
>>130391772>best rock album of the 90sdon't be ridiculous
>>130391780PFNO>UAW>NWWL>KILAS (just my opinion)As for modest mouse records fit in I love the first 2 and they're definitely about the level of UAW some better some worse
>>130391772definitely the one time indie rock did prog on a level that is better than majority of prog ever made>>130391748idek how you could compare them when they don't remotely sound like 90s indie rock
>>130391850MM × BTS × Archers of Loaf × Foxing × Mewithoutyou × Brand New × Pavement
>>130391748'fraid so
>>130392037Brand New, Mewithoutyou, Archers of Loaf, Built to Spill, Modest Mouse, Foxing and Pavement doesn't get rated because they suck ass
>>130391747this>>130391772pretty accurate
welp, gonna listen to randy now
>>130391780You horrifically underrated there is nothing wrong with love. Its my personal favorite built to spill and I prefer keep it like a secret over perfect from now on as well
>>130391772Perfect is so good it bums me out he hasn't had any serious works in the 21st century, I've actually spoken to Doug personally and hes definitely the type of artist that thinks whatever hes doing at that exact moment is his best artistic statement, it bothers me that he can't acknowledge that he did something amazing on PFNO and he should try and pull from that to return to that height, there was an experimental edge whether to the songwriting, the tone, the textures and the emotion was very powerful too, I understand getting that emotion again is impossible with his life being so relaxed but the rest is still possible to up his songwriting efforts
>>130392250what are you doing ITT if you don't like any of those artists?>>130392037>mewithoutyou>Foxingnever heard these 2? whats their seminal albums and are they really that good? Personally The Wrens is a worthy comparison to the other 90s indie rockrs, Guided by Voices is another though their sound is pretty stand out. Sebadoh is another albeit lesser, maybe Polvo. Mercury Rev is kinda left field but the big experimental and layered sound of the first 2 records has Built to Spill qualities. Liz Phair, has the indie personality down to a tee but doesn't have the band really. and finally Lync, love Lync.
>>130392772TNWwL is also my favorite
>>130392874>whats their seminal albums and are they really that good?mewithoutYou's Brother, Sister is the closest thing to a "Brand New album not made by BN" I know of (along with Sorority Noise's "You're Not As _ As You Think") their best, very good. Foxing has Albatross, and Foxing, a noise rock album which sounds like it was influenced by Daisy. I mentioned all those bands together because they sound somewhat similar in some albums, and on RYM, people who like 2 or 3 of them, usually like the others as well
>>130392836He also can't sing like that anymore.
>>130391727TLCW is about 4-5 songs too long. That's the problem Modest Mouse records in the 90s.PFNO is the perfect album length at 8 songs. Also I love Built to Spill's seeming lack of pretension in the world of indie rock. A band indebted to classic rock and unafraid to solo/stretch songs and reference the shit indie rockers at the time were allergic too.
>>130391759>pretentious>>130393215>lack of pretensiondamn
>>130392874I like all of those bands except Pavement
Bump
>>130391727Modest Mouse has better lyricsBuilt to Spill have better musicianship and guitar solos
>>130391772TLCW has no filler songs besides Out of Gas and Long Distance Drunk
>>130397628Out of Gas is top 3 on the album.
>>130397628>Out of Gas>fillerKill yourself
GOTTA GO TO WORK GOTTA GO TO WORK GOTTA HAVE A JOOOB
