Their best song is You Only Live Once.
>>
they had the best sound

white stripes were ok
black keys early stuff was too tryhard "gritty" then it became beer commercial rock for arenas

franz ferdinand was for like portland and brooklyn guys and ad agency employees, take me out was pretty good. all the uk shit was whatever to me, interchangeable, arctic monkeys were good for a while

is this it was the strongest material front to back.

Soma, Someday, and Last Nite were peak with the latter being the rare time rock makes a song so poppy its indistinguishable from pop even in the modern era

Songwriting

After fads expire and you no longer "get" what was so fresh or novel about a sound back in the days, it's the tune that abides.
Sometimes paradoxically a band can become more popular decades after, because they free themselves from the flavor-of-the-day baggage

Last Night is basically lounge Jazz. It could have been sung by Tony Bennett.
