There's this hack at work trying to break into the music industry by being a promoter or something, trying to find musicians to play for events.
Says he's a veteran and served in the military, I highly doubt it.

Thanks for the chips, Kitty (also this was when she was still doing that warbly singing style she would drop next year with Jimmy Dorsey)

Frank also cuts his first solo record. He basically launched the wave of solo crooners afterward, although that was probably inevitable due to the collapse of big bands during the war.

Congrats to Captain Glenn Miller (USA). He was originally rejected due to his eyesight (draft classification 3-A), but convinced them to sign him up to lead the US Army Air Forces Orchestra, at the age of 38.

He'll be fine.

>The #1 selling disc of the year was Ella Mae Morse/Freddy Slack Orchestra's "Cow Cow Boogie", a Western-flavored novelty tune. It was the second record ever put out by the nascent Capitol Records and helped put the new outfit on the map. Helping its success was the recording ban preventing others from making covers and siphoning off sales of the disc ("Cow Cow Boogie" was eventually covered two years later by Ella Fitzgerald and the Ink Spots).

>Morse, like most singers who broke with a novelty song, never managed to repeat the success of "Cow Cow Boogie." She had a middling career afterwards, putting out mostly underwhelming novelties and R&B covers until retiring from recording in the late 1950s--partially because of her choice of material and her vocals, listeners could not tell if she was white or black. Morse also gained a measure of infamy for an ill-conceived rant she penned for Downbeat Magazine in 1952 when she denounced the late trend of shout singers such as Eddie Fisher and Johnnie Ray.

Marion Hutton at vocals. She was Betty's sister (Cuckgau is a big Betty Hutton admirer btw). Also failed to make the transition out of the 40s into the 50s and faded away when the decade ended.

Dig on Tex's Sinatra impersonation. That early and the mf-er already has copycats.

Not a master transfer, sounds like a rip from a 78 disc. Maybe they didn't have a master since a lot of them didn't survive the war.
